Sources indicate:
The Bowdoin scrimmage on Saturday versus Bridgton Academy is at 3:30pm in Brunswick.
It will be for non-starters ... mostly Freshmen and Sophomores.

Pep heard that Hamilton was scrimmaging the Cornell "B" squad just before the Saxons took on the Cornell "A" squad. Pep did not attend the scrimmage held in Ithaca as Pep was riding the Gate Keeper at Cedar Point, along with Top Thrill Dragster with the fam. Saxons apparently were outsized by the Big Red but put up a decent fight, despite not finding the end zone. Not sure how the Continentals did but Pep is well acquainted with the folks at the Clinton Courier and therefore will always root for Hamilton!

Pep is hoping that Hamilton will start to make the move up in the NESCAC standings.... Go Continentals!

On Saxon Warriors...
Get the fight song ready...
and stay tuned!

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Makes sense - the polar bears Varsity would demolish Bridgton--seems that Tufts may have stiffed the Black and White and left them without a viable scrimmage this year as the Jumbos opt to pass on an outside tuneup.

They Jumbos may get tired of pounding each other for 3 weeks.

For many years beinning in the 70's and extending into the 90's, Bates, Bowdoin and Colby engaged in an annual "tri scrimmage". It was a great three way matchup which was a great preview of the CBB Maine State Series. Not sure why that ended. It made sense in terms of travel and gave an equal look to each of the CBB schools. With Bowdoin now in their current position as odd man out maybe it will be revived.

It is hard to believe that the Tufts and Bowdoin coaches are very happy with their respective scrimmage (or lack of scrimmage) situations as described here.

Re: CBB rivalry: for the purposes of the CBB trophy, the three games between the Maine schools are of equal weight. In terms of actual rivalry, Frank is right: the Colby/Bowdoin game is considered the most heated and most bitter, and is therefore the centerpiece of the CBB. A few factors (not an exhaustive list by any means) go into this:

-Colby Bowdoin is (I believe) the third longest rivalry in division 3 (largest factor), so the teams have had over a hundred years to scrap.
-Bates (until this year or so) has struggled with extreme futility since the early 80s (no winning seasons since circa 1984, no .500 seasons since 1999, until this past season). The primary challengers for the CBB have been, by default, Bowdoin and Colby.
-Colby/Bowdoin is always the last game of the season for both teams. The schedule, when paired with the fact that Bates is often not a factor in the CBB (BUT anything can happen in this rivalry, as we have seen) by the time the game rolls around, they are an afterthought.
-Just a strong, general dislike between Colby and Bowdoin. For some reason, that feeling is not at the same level with these two teams towards Bates. Don't get me wrong, there is no love lost between Bates and the other two but Colby-Bowdoin is a different level of dislike that Bates-Colby or Bates-Bowdoin.

Saturday's Williams at Amherst scrimmage begins at 1:00.

Frank....if you attend the scrimmage on Sat., you will see the new field before me!  Hear that every thing is finished except the Press Box building.  If you come in from the Hitchcock Rd.,  the new home seats are to your right...the sunny side.  For future reference, visitor's seats are now on the "
Dark/shady" side.  Of course, for you it does not matter...sit anywhere.  I usually stand on the sidelines.  If you visit the new field house for any reason, you can check out the large tree...that costed 100k  to move about a hundred feet.
To the Maine posters, since the Colby/Bowdoin is the third oldest D3 rivalry, do you..or anyone..know what schools are in second place.
The oldest rivalry is also heated BUT never bitter.  Don't you agree Frank U.

Amh63 when you see Frank , give him a big kiss on the lips.

#5978
amh63: Albion/Kalamazoo is second most played d3 football rivalry. Monmouth/Knox is tied for #3 with Bowdoin/Colby. In bull fighting the shady side seats are of course the expensive ones.

The Bowdoin roster is now up, with a body counting topping 80 (81):

http://athletics.bowdoin.edu/sports/fball/2013-14/roster

QB Grant White is not listed on the roster -- he was injured last year, with, IIRC, a concussion. That may have precluded him from playing this year, which is his senior year . . .

Incoming Class Rankings:

1. Middlebury  2. Wesleyan  3. Bates  4. Bowdoin

like Old Don foolishly chasing windmills, I wish to announce that Colby has picked a new Prez, coming aboard in July.  He is a Hamilton man and comes via Brown and The U.of Chicago.  Dave Greene' s bio does not mention any sports interest(see announcement on Nescac website).  Connecticut College recently selected a new Prez.  She comes via Brown and went to HS in Old Lyme Ct.  She is expected to arrive in Jan., I believe.  Now the only remaining Prez to be found is the one for Tinity College.  Just maybe in a little more than a year there maybe an football agenda item on the NESAC meeting of presidents...I thinking coming from the Amherst area.
Since football games at Amherst are FREE, there is no "rich man, poor man" image to be gained to sit on the expensive side.  Still have to pay a few bucks for the program..though.  Now, food and drinks are another matter...unless you know someone :).

Where does one go to find out the recruiting class comparisons?  Basketball is so easy because the numbers are so small.  I appreciate the heads up, guys.

Go Continentals!

Seems like Middlebury took the biggest graduation hit in the league losing the majority of their starting line-up.  My guess is that they will be the team that experiences the biggest turn-around in terms of wins and losses.  Other opinions?

It would appear that my sources need to check with lumbercat's sources.

Bowdoin scrimmage at 2:00pm on Saturday.
According to my same sources. ;-)
