nyone know what time the Colby-Bates scrimmage starts this Saturday?

lumbercat

Believe it is Friday at Bates- 6:00

Any one know of other scrimmages?

Trinity-Wes usually is Sat or Sunday
Believe Tufts does not have a scrimmage.
Bowdoin did a kind of JV scrimmage with Bridgeton Academy last year but not sure if that has been scheduled this year.

According to the "Sage" on football matters at Williams....there will be a scrimmage between Amherst and Williams on Sat....the 13th.  Oh goody...I believe such scrimmages are worthless.  Maybe the players can discuss  their new uniforms and other such matters as how their new facilities are going.
Guess one can tell that I prefer  a nine game schedule than a scrimmage between ancient rivals....maybe!  Pretty soon there will be a complete turnover in conf Prez's.  This is the year when Amherst host the meeting of Presidents to discuss common topics...like athletics ....maybe.

NothingButNESCAC

Tufts scrimmaged Framingham State per their Twitter.
Bowdoin is doing the same type of scrimmage against Bridgton.
Haven't looked into other teams really but I'm guessing there are a few others. I know Middlebury has scrimmaged Dartmouth JV before, but I am not certain if Midd played their starters or even if it happened before the season started.

Or even games against other D3 schools. :)

One should not hold his breath, waiting for the NESCAC football scheduling format to change in any respect.

Hamilton scrimmaged at Cornell on Saturday. The mood on the team was VASTLY improved over past years. ;D

Ahhhh, the annual ritual of discussing extending the NESCAC football season.  You know it's time for the games to begin when the topic comes up!

Steadfast in my view.

NESCAC don't need no stinkin' playoffs (see Ivy League football)
NESCAC DO need a ninth game (see Ivy League football's ten game schedule--academic argument, don't go there)

Unfortunately, I think Frank is right not to hold one's breath.  However, I do like Amh's persistent optimism.

A superficial drive-by inspection indicates renovated Weston Field will be ready for the Amherst-Williams scrimmage on 9/13 - provided plumbing and electrical are operational. " Kickoff" set for 2.

I'm OK with the NESCAC not taking one of our playoff spots. But I would like to see the NESCAC have a non-conference game, since the Ivy League does that.

NESCAC lover that I am, there is something just UN-NATURAL about Middlebury not playing Norwich in football.  Generations of fans of both schools loved that game and many of those of us still kickin' miss it badly.
If it were still being played, I guarantee Vandy74 would be there, along with a full house.

Pat, Agreed.  In a perfect world (at least to this poster), NESCAC would add the ninth league game and open each season with a tenth out of league game.  Ninth could be added without coming back to school any earlier than current schedule.  All NESCAC schools have or could find a natural out of league rival without much trouble.  Also, a playoff berth would only affect one team per season, so I personally don't think it would have any adverse effects academically upon the vast majority of the players (if any at all).  In order of preference:

1. Ninth game (league)
2. Tenth game (non-league)
3. Playoff game

See there are more vocal posters smelling the roses!  :)
Un-natural!...Middhoops?  Know that Vermont is a special place.  Just playing with you my friend.  Glad to see your post on this board.
A sort of side issue topic.  Amherst has posted that it has a one year contract with NSN to do webcast of many of its sporting events....covered today's field hockey game at Amherst.  This means HD broadcasts over the web with professional announcers, etc.  Williams, Bowdoin and Middlebury now uses NSN as well as the Nescac for championship sports coverage.   Where am I going with this....
well, it seems the home football games are included for Amherst.  I assume that the BIG game with Williams will have NSN support.  Not clear is whether NESN will also be at Homecoming...for the first game under lights...with a start time of 4 PM.  Usually that game is broadcasted over commercial channels to locations around the World to Alumni gatherings.  Hope to clarify the situation a little more.
Anyway, does NSN webcast other school's football games?  Any comments on the coverage?
Editorial comment to add.  It seems that more conference schools are out scoring their sports athletic websites to varying degrees...like Presto.   Not sure I like this trend.
Oh yes...Amherst's NSN webcasts in HD are FREE!   Yes, it is a brave new world.

quicksilver

Amh63, quality of NSN coverage varies from school to school as though NSN is plugging into equipment supplied by and operated by the school. In many cases, it has meant more professional announcing (a mixed blessing as you lose the enthusiasm and the insider knowledge of the student announcer).

Bates/Colby scrimmage is set for 5:30 Friday at Bates.
