Know of at least 2 cases  where players have been dismissed for academic dishonesty and legal issues and are back playing - Not right - Unless you are the QB for Florida State -

Couple of comments WRT this post / poster.

First, the author joined on October 5th, and has only made two posts, both on this subject.   It would certainly appear he has an ax to grind (his kid got passed over when he applied to Trinity in favor of one of the kids who allegedly was punished and came back, his kid was dismissed from a NESCAC and didn't get reinstated, his kid is languishing on the depth chart behind a kid that left and came back and he's trying to change that, whatever).  But if he's new to the neighborhood (i.e. this board), there are better ways to make nice with the neighbors.

I belong to a bunch of discussion boards, and sometimes these types of posts are made by a long time member, who decides to open a second account to spew venom that he doesn't want associated with his "nice guy" persona.  Not saying that's the case here (my tin foil conspiracy hat is in the shop for repairs this week), but if anyone got really offended they could ask the moderators to check the new guy's IP address and see if it matches someone else's.

Next, I don't like the rush to judgment on the Florida State / Jamais Winston situation.  There are enough screwy things with the way the young lady and her family have handled their allegations that one can reasonably wonder whether she was a willing (even enthusiastic) participant in the alleged behavior.  Florida State and the local authorities did a terrible job investigating the situation, but I'm personally not convinced that there was a cover-up.  (The fact that there appears to be empirical DNA evidence that she had "relations" with multiple partners that night may make one wonder if she's more gold-digger than victim).

Unfortunately, the country, the NCAA, NESCAC and individual schools seem to have gone WAY overboard on the issue of what constitutes consent.  By way of background, both my son and my daughter are NESCAC varsity athletes.  My son's team had a Title IX meeting recently where they were told that if either the boy or the girl has had ANY alcohol, neither party can legally give consent.  If an athlete and a young lady meet at a party, hook up and have a good time afterward, she can come back at any time and claim that she was sexually assaulted.  Makes no difference how willing / enthusiastic a participant she was at the time.  If there was any alcohol involved, this particular NESCAC school will EXPEL (not warn, not suspend) the male athlete involved.

Again, I have both a son and a daughter in NESCAC, and am 100% in favor of anything that protects my daughter's safety, but IMHO it's rather an appalling double standard these young male athletes must navigate.  College doesn't seem to be as much fun today as it was when I attended back in the Dark Ages; seems like you need to have an attorney in tow (or at least on speed dial), and a Go Pro documenting your every move.  And maybe your own personal Breath Alyzer waiting in your dorm room, so that you can document that your partner was sober?

I have no clue whether there are actually Trinity players who were suspended and came back, and if so, how heinous their offenses were.  But the witch hunt atmosphere that seems to be in vogue makes me tend to give student athletes the benefit of the doubt.

The "young" QB Foy was an athletic QB of note in Hawaii and moved on to college in San Deigo...UC San Deigo  or San Deigo State...I do not recall.  Do not know his PT at prior college.  Imo, his age is immaterial these days when many players go to prep schools after HS before coming to the CAC.  There was a transfer that played not too far back for Amherst on the defensive side that had a unusual route.  Played in HS...drafted in MLB..got injured...went to a Patriot League school for football and then came to Amherst to play.  Used his own funds to go to college...in his MLB contract.
Anyway, Foy seems to have the arm and the feet that the coaches like.  So far, his decision making has lead to TOs and stalled offense.  I posted earlier that I think he has to adjust to the speed of college football....and/or the offenses/ defenses.

It looks like Reece Foy went to the University of San Diego and was on its roster for the 2013 season. There is no sign that he played in any games for USD last year -- he would be a first year in terms of D3 eligibility if he was not on the USD roster once the regular season began for USD or if he has a medical red shirt declaration for last year . . .

Does the NESCAC not honor other divisions' redshirts? He would be a freshman in every other conference that I'm aware of even without a medical hardship season.

Pat C.....do not know that answer as I do not know rules and the particulars.  However, I'm sure the status was cleared with the NESCAC office.  The headquarters is less than a mile down the road in Hadley and the Head is an Amherst Grad.  I'm sure she gave Amherst a favorable reading :)
FYI, on another transfer to Amherst for football.  He was a redshirt from the UN. of Cinn. And a Baltimore prep school player of note...6'4-5" TE.  An honor student in HS and at Cinn.  Talked to him when he and I were having breakfast.  He came to Amherst for several reasons.  His cousin was a starter at Amherst and his father was a great football player at Amherst.  His father went on to play in the NFL..at Dallas and on the Redskins.  His father, a lawyer among many things, tried to buy the Baltimore MLB team.  In my discussion with the young man, he stated if his grades dropped any, he would not be allowed to play football. Father's rules!  His grades were fine but injuries hampered his time at Amherst.  Never got PT at Amherst, a D1 talent.  Young man was a basketball talent too...runs in the family as his sister was a scholarship player at GWU.  Graduated with honors, I believe, with smiling family in attendance.  Happy ending!

Do you know that Foy was a medical red shirt as USD? I was just speculating that that was a possibility . .

Amherst has its preview posted.  Family day game with Tufts on Pratt Field.  Podcast with Coach Mills.  Expect some comments on the WES upset.
FYI, Williams has its preview of their Game in Clinton posted.
Does MIDD or Bowdoin ever post Peviews?  others?
Oh yes, QB Lippe is slated to Start.

amh63...

I assume the father is Jean Fugett.

amh63

VANDY 74.....you are correct.  After verifying Jean's time at Amherst, I wondered if your brothers overlapped a bit with Fugett as team mates.  Remember watching him in a game at Tufts as Amherst upset the no. 1 team according to the Boston Press...in 1969-70.  Another memory.  He was also a fine Basketball player.

Amher63--consistent with your take on the QBs at your favorite school, heard Berluti has been healthy enough to play going back to the Colby game.

I hope that nobody sprained an ankle jumping off of the Hamilton bandwagon. I've been riding that particular vehicle for the last 4 years. My son is a senior (survivor) on the Contls' football team and I haven't missed a game in 4 years. That makes me either a masochist, a lunatic, or both. It has been quite the ride. After a promising first year in which my son and his  fellow 2011 recruits saw field time, (some earlier than others) started, (some from Day 1), and made a difference, (some also held the fort after injuries to upperclassmen), things went south in a heartbeat after a new HCOF was hired in late July, 2012.
The 3-5 season in 2011 started with  a 2 game winning streak, followed by a 5 game losing streak, but ended with a nice convincing win over Bates in Clinton. There was a nice buzz about the team as the season ended. Apparently it wasn't good enough for some folks with some clout (not those employed in the athletic dept).  Employing awful timing, the college informed the players that the HCOF was being "re-assigned" in the week before exams in May.  Word has it that 2 coaches turned Hamilton down after a national search was conducted.  A marriage of convenience occurred in late July with a Napoleonic former assistant, whose ticket had been punched in multiple venues in the Patriot, Ivy, NESCAC and other leafy environs. The HCOF and his equally self-enamored OC ran the show into the ground. Players were run off, others never returned from injuries, while those playing 2 sports picked whatever sport that wasn't football. Shameful. During the 1-15 of 2012-2013,  parents could be heard saying things such as, "Well as least they're getting a great education!" after games. That IS the point of all of this, nowhere more evident in college athletics than it is in the NESCAC.  Luckily, sanity has returned.
Last week in W-ville notwithstanding, the difference in the Murray era is like"night and day". Competence, professionalism, and caring are evident. One player said, "Forget the football part, Coach Murray is just a great guy." Nobody can give our kids the last 2 years back, but it's good that this year is better for everyone associated with Buff N' Blue football.
As I was driving back from the Colby game last week I encountered heavy rainstorms from Brunswick to Portland. As I got south of Portland, the rain abated and the sun peeked through the clouds. Over my left shoulder, back toward Portland, I saw the biggest, thickest rainbow I've ever seen. I saw it as a metaphor for the future of Hamilton football, but what do I know? I bet that Robert Frost, the Poet Laureate of NESCAC, ("We were NESCAC before there was NESCAC") could relate.

amh63.....My brother did a PG year at Exeter.  Otherwise he would have been a freshman Fugett's senior year.  It also seems that Mr. Fugett was a 16 year old high school graduate.  I was very aware of his Amherst connection when he played for the Cowboys and Redskins.  He is exactly two weeks older than I am, btw.  My brother Pete's best friends on the football team were David Comerford, a pretty good TE in his own right considering the shoes he had to fill and John McKechnie.  A couple of names that might ring a bell with you.  John had the misfortune to be named the football HC in '92 following The DARP's retirement.  The less said about that season the better.  He was a fairly successful HC for the men's LAX from 1984-'94 winning NE Lacrosse COY honors as well as the NESCAC championship in '87.

DC 53. Kinda sad story. Nice finish. I attended the game at Hamilton So year. We also did a visit to Clinton. As in the case of many CAC schools, it is a unique place and you hope that your child makes a good choice based upon fit. They will get a great education no matter which school in the conference that they choose.

It is hard to find the coach to fit as well. I went to a D1 school and although we have a great tradition, the level of competition went flying by us. We are a small school in a small town in a small state. You have to find a coach that fits and it is not easy to do.

I hope that you make a statement this weekend. I really hate to see Williams the way it is. Maybe you can put it out of its misery.

I hope the future is good at Ham and that you and you son can enjoy going back over the years.

Actually it means you're a supportive Dad.  One of the tougher jobs out there....(right behind supportive Mom)

Hope the season finishes out strong for your son.
