I thought that Lehigh-Lafayette was the oldest rivalry in college football.

It is big enough to somebody that they are moving next Saturday's game (between two D1-AA Eastern Pennsylvania teams, an hour away from Philadelphia) to Yankee Stadium.

Harvard and Yale will be THE GAME when somebody deems it big/important enough to move it to a Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park ;)

I know you were being a little tongue-in-cheek there but:

Harvard (9-0 with a win over Lafeyette) v Yale (8-1 with a win over Lehigh) is definitely The Game.

ESPN thinks Harvard-Yale is pretty big. They will do their College Game Day telecast from Harvard this week.
Don't beleive they would ever move The Game from Harvard Stadium or Yale Bowl- great venues with a lot of history and ample capacity.
With Harvard undefeated and Yale with 1 loss- this shapes up as great matchup.

Of course I'm being tongue-in-cheek :-*

I am surprised though that somebody had the brilliant idea of moving two teams, from an hour outside of Philly, to Yankee Stadium for a game.

By the way, very down year for Lehigh who has perennially been a good team.........................and it's only been a few years since Pennsylvania was annually winning the Ivies.

My best friend's son is on the Harvard basketball team and it's surprising how little he pays out of pocket........and Dad makes big bucks.

Harvard football and hoops have become what Pennsylvania was a few years ago, for many years, even though there are no "athletic" scholarships.

Penn did it first................Harvard has taken it to a new level.

The problem with moving The Game to Fenway are several-fold including Fenway has fewer seats than would be needed and would be moving from the oldest concrete stadium in the country to a "newer" venue built in 1912!

jmcozenlaw--your description of Harvard sounds like some in the NESCAC? :) :) :)

.

Harvard Stadium is really nice now.  Anyone know why they chose to go with turf though?.  They already have a few turf fields available for practice right?

You mean the game that MIT won in 1982?

A friend told me that ESPN is there this year given the records of both teams. Should be a great game!!

Now, who paid whom, for two Pennsylvania schools (an hour from Philly) to not only play in Yankee Stadium....................but to light up the top of the Empire State Building, split in both teams colors?? That is heresy to a New Yorker ;)

Check out the link below...............I'm speechless. If not for 9-0 playing 8-1..................Pennsylvania could have invaded New Yawk's Yankee Stadium, turned the Empire State Tower into the colors of these two PA schools, with ESPN Gameday broadcasting live.

Damn you Harvard and Yale!!!!!!!!! ;D

Of course, we all humbly recognize that Alabama/Auburn football is completely indifferent to Harvard/ Yale and Lafayette/Lehigh, not to speak of  Williams/Amherst, any possible acknowledgment of which falls far below indifference.

On my way up to the oldest rivalry in D3, drove the PA. Turnpike and passed Lehigh on the right and the home of the Leopards on the left...about 10-15 miles apart.  Yes the two schools have the oldest rivarly in the land.  Amherst- Williams is the fourth oldest football contest.  Guess the Quakers facility in Phillie is being used.
With regards to turf at Harvard Stadium....the reason maybe that all the other Ivy stadiums have turf fields.  In the old days of the 60-70's...Harvard Stadium would not draw big crowds except for games against Yale and Dartmouth.
In the CAC, there are only two remaining grass fields...at Bowdoin and Wesleyan.  WES has the oldest college field still being used.  Teams now in the CAC still have to adjust their footwear, etc. For grass.
Rik...you may have to explain your comment to the other posters....even though MIT is having a fine season....are they still undefeated?

Tufts still on grass as well.
Wonder if Bowdoin will go with Turf as their field has been in terrible shape in last few years after being historically noted for  great field conditions in bygone days. Not sure what happened with the Whittier playing surface.
Overall the Bowdoin facility is a great old traditional setting but based on visits there this year it's getting tired.

B the way, I hear the MIT kids are planning on phtobombing the Harvard-Yale Gameday show with signs declaring MIT 9-0...

MIT finished 9-0 Saturday night.  On to the NCAA tournament.

Frank U. ...you had to remind me of the " Iron Bowl" game.  I try to watch that game every year...some personal stake as I root for the Warhawks against the CRIMSON tide.  My older brother is a Harvard grad  and also has a doctorate from Alabama.  His two sons and two of his grand kids went to Auburn.  Makes for interesting football watching. :)
