Some more commitments being announced by CT high school football players. Looks like Trinity went heavy after Cheshire Academy. I wonder if they really wanted all these kids or if there was one or two they really liked and recruited them all as a package deal.  Also interesting to see four Darien kids committing to NESCAC programs thus far. For those who don't know, the Blue Wave produces a ton of talent and is a very affluent community.

Sam Bowtel, OL, Darien – Trinity
Rob Parra, WR, Hall — Trinity
Ryan Brown, WR, Fairfield Warde – Trinity
Chandler Colberg, RB, Cheshire Academy – Trinity
Eric Saches, K, Cheshire Academy — Trinity
Sean Smerczynski, LB, Cheshire Academy — Trinity
Bradley Whitman, QB, Cheshire Academy — Trinity

Other NESCAC commits from CT:
Mark Piccirillo, QB, Shelton – Wesleyan
Tim Jambor, LB, Notre Dame-West Haven – Wesleyan
Jack Whiting, CB/WR, Fairfield Warde — Bowdoin
Griffin Ross, WR, Darien – Bowdoin
Jack Tyrell, OL, Darien — Amherst
Jack Griffiths, OL, Darien – Amherst
Chris Taylor, OL, St. Joseph – Middlebury

Choate had 2 PG players who I saw play in HS, WR Bo Berluti and QB John Fadule.  I know both were looking at NESCAC so it will be interesting where they go.  Berluti played QB in High School and his brother played some time at QB at Amherst as a frosh.  Fadule isn't as fast as Bo, but ended up getting the starting job at Choate who I know had a good team this year.  They also had a stud from Brockton who might be going somewhere.

Anyone hear any news on this board?

Not to muddle the waters wrt to Jonny U's post...just some old info wrt to the Berluti brothers.
The Amherst QB Berluti seemed to have a fine long ball connection with his younger WR brother in H.S..via videos. I was in the Alumni Gym area late in the football season...freshman year for the Amherst Berluti.  A number of " recruits " were waiting around for talks with coaches.  Saw Berluti in the hallway...waiting.  Seems he was waiting for his younger brother to finish.  Saw the brothers leave the gym later.  This past season, did not see the younger Berluti on the team and never gave his where abouts  another thought.  Seems he went to prep school.  Do not know if his interest in Amherst and vice versa continued.
It is often not easy to find out what football recruits are showing up.....therefore Thanks Trinity 8-0!
Seems ED2 announcements  are appearing.  Of course, Amherst does not have ED2.

Thanks Trinity8-0.  Grapevine also has 6"5" basketball forward and quarterback out of Winchester (MA) High, Michael Grassey making a verbal commitment to Hamilton.

PolarCat

I sincerely hope LumberCat or another member can tell us about some stud Bobcat recruits.  Right now I'm not hearing about any, and all this talk about Trinity, Wes, Amherst and even Hamilton is getting me nervous....

Polarcat-

I hear you but don't fall victim to the perennial Trinity propaganda on recruiting- they recruit very aggressively but it never bodes well for the excess kids they bring with hopes of a NESCAC ring. They bring in an abundance of "prized" recruits who never get on the field.  Start tracking their recruits yearly as they progress through the program, you will find that a disproportionate number of  highly advertised incoming recruits never get to the promised land.

Bantams show 7 Cheshire recruits this year and 3, yes 3, RBs from the same Cheshire team. Never have seen 7 recruits from any one  school as incoming freshman anywhere in the NESCAC. Believe the rest of the conference would not attempt that balance.  My thought surrounds the 3 Cheshire RBs headed to Hartford--does their high school competition for playing time continue for 4 more years? .... Perhaps not if Bants recruiters made other promises for these RBs  at other positions. I hope the majority of those 7 recruits get on the field at some point.......Same deal at Wesleyan, like an airline overbooking a flight. Come here and go 8-0.......but we are cutting 20 kids.

Competition is a great thing and is the fuel for the development of success but Trin and Wes are in a shortsighted arms race....there is a significant law of diminishing returns in play here.

Rest assured Polarcat that the Bates staff may not have he immense resources of our Connecticut competitors but their spirit and integrity is totally intact. They are upfront in the way they recruit kids...Harriman,  Capone and the master of their Defense, Coach Kempton will look a kid in the eye and promise him a great athletic opportunity and an over the top academic experience at Bates. It's a family there.
The Bates staff doesn't get preoccupied with any other programs. You wear the Garnet and you commit to striving to be your very best in the Classroom, on the Field, in the weight room and most importantly as a member of a great college community...........with that operating philosophy the Bates staff will add a number of fine recruits to the Bates Football Family shortly.......stay tuned.

Lumbercat,

That would be 3 running backs from 2 different Cheshire teams.  There is Cheshire High School and Cheshire Academy (NEPSAC Prep)....

lumbercat

Thanks fulbkdad -I stand corrected on my statement about 7 Cheshire kids - my error.

Cheshire Academy has a long history of college football player production.  My son graduated from a Prep School that played them and graduated from there 4 years ago.  His senior year Cheshire Academy had 5 seniors sign D1 scholarships.  2 started at BC their Freshman redshirt years.....quite a program actually....They allow Post Grad Seniors there so there are some 5th year high school players...

Boston.com article extensively quoting Coach Mills of Amherst as well as referencing Coach Faulstick (Amherst). Sounds like they can both recognize young coaching talent:

Any word on Wells assembling his staff? Is he keeping any/all of the current staff?

I believe that all, or a great majority of all of the former staff are staying.  Also have not heard anything about future staffing additions.  It appears that Bowdoin has received a few commitments, so I guess they have been doing a decent job with continuity during the search.
