Recruiting update

With the passing of National Letter of Intent day last week here is a current update from 6 different recruiting sources relative to NESCAC  "signings" or "commits" for all NESCAC teams as of 2/4.

This data is for Ma and Ct only as of 2/4-- This information does not emanate from NESCAC institutions.

Reported signings:

Amherst- 8
Bates- 9
Bowdoin- 9
Colby- 5
Hamilton- 7
Middlebury- 7
Tufts- 10
Trinity- 21
Wesleyan- 5
Williams- 5

Again, this is a culmination of reported signings/commitments for Ma and Ct only from a sampling of 6 recruiting sites or sources.

(it would take me too long to enter names and details of each recruit but will try to get to that in coming weeks.)

Remember, this reflects reported commitments at this point in time following ED1. Believe the date for ED 2 announcements is mid Feb with regular decision following that.

I know that Bowdoin, Middlebury, and Tufts have released ED 2 decisions -- other NESCACs may also have completed the ED 2 process.

Trinity has 21 from MA and CT alone?  Wow.  That's more than the entire frosh football class at many NESCAC schools ...

That number does seem very high. Although I don't doubt lumbercat's counting skills and I've seen reports of as many as 11 CT kids committed to Trin. Keep in mind that Trinity is losing 20 seniors from last year's squad. The Bants have always recruited well in-state and both Devanney as well as the Recruiting Coordinator/DC/Associate HC grew up in CT and have a ton of connections.

On that note, saw two more Trinity CT commits; both coming off a PG year at Westminster after playing at Amity Regional in Woodbridge:
David Ryan, QB
Ben Feola, WR

A communication from the coaching staff to alums indicated that they're very happy with the class they're bringing in (no surprise) and that they're especially excited about linebacker and safety. Those two positions have seemingly always been strong points of Trinity's best teams.
NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

Scary info Trin8-0...wrt to number and quality of "recruits".  Amherst and Williams only has ED1...and regular decision of course.  On the other hand Amherst often gets recruits outside of New EngLand.  Still awaiting a QB from that bed of QBs..Texas!   Amherst does have one from Hawaii...transfer from a California university.
Did not an early poster mention a possible QB going to Hamiltion...a 6'5" player?  Confused a bit here when reading about the conversation of available QB talent at Hamilton.

polbear73

Yes, a 6'5" basketball player and quarterback out of Winchester, MA High has committed to Hamilton.

NewtoNescac

Michael Grassey was the Winchester QB, and he also played basketball. If he's in fact going to Hamilton they look to have a great QB recruit. I just watched his highlights, and he looks like he can make all the throws, has pocket presence and excellent vision. I think they have a find in that kid, if in fact he's going to Hamilton.

polbear73

Michael Grassey is listed in the New England Recruiting Report as committed to Hamilton.

NewtoNescac

Polbear73, it sounds like Hamilton has a terrific QB coming in. Where do I find the NE Recruiting Report?

NERR is only basketball. Much easier to do a full blown recruiting site for basketball because of all the AAU and Prep school teams that are in New England. Also just a lot more basketball talent compared to football.

I wanted to back up some of the numbers I have posted recently. The snow day today gave me the opportunity to seek the help of my assistant to enter the detail on the Trinity commitments- it took her about 10 minutes....would have taken me an hour with my typing skills.

Here is a list of known Trinity recruits for Ma and Ct. These are the recruits in these 2 states that are known to me. I have no idea if this a complete list of Ma and Ct commits. I am sure they also have multiple commitments in other states. At this time I do not have a complete list of those prospects.

Trinity Recruits-

Sam Bowtel  OL  Darien, CT   6'2"   240
Rob Parra  WR  Hall, CT   6'2"   190
Ryan Brown  WR  Fairfield Warde, CT   6'3"   180
Chandler Colberg  RB  Chesh AC, CT   6'1"   190----4.5 40
Eric Sachee   K  Chesh AC, CT
Sean Smerczynski  LB  Chesh AC, CT   6'0"   220
Bradley Whitman   QB   Chesh AC, CT   6'2"   175
Jack Cunningham   RB   Chesh H.S., CT   5'8"   185
Mark Covel   TE   Chesh HS, CT   6'4"   240
Tyson Mattox   OL/DE   St. Sebastians, MA   6'5"   245
Edosa Onalwu   RB/OB   St. Sebastians, MA   5'11"   180
Steven O'Reilly   LB/OL   Masconomet, MA   6'0"   240
Jack Steverman   LB   BB&N, MA   6'0"   225
Max Chipouras   RB   Williston Northampton, MA   5'10"   175
Shane Libby   FB   BC High, MA   6'2"   215
Nick Rose   DE   Arlington, MA   6'2"   235
Ben Feola   WR   Westminster, MA   6'2"   188
David Ryan   QB   Westminster, MA   6'4"   190
Will Millett   LB   Marblehead, MA   6'4"   225
Justin Poitras        LB     Pinkerton, NH   6'0"   220

I posted 21 Ma/Ct commits in my earlier post- I was in error as I mistakenly included one prospect from NH (above) and one from Miami, FL in that count:

Danny Hernandez   CB/KR Belen Jesuit, Miami, FL

The Bantams seemed to recruit this kid from Belen Jesuit with great fervor. See attached links.

Pretty cool for a D3 kid  to get a text from Trinity showing his locker all set up with his #3 game jersey waiting for him. Also a neat formal signing ceremony.
When it comes to recruiting Trinity is playing chess while the rest of the league plays checkers.

-Trin8-0---No venom, no allegation of cheating. This is all within the rules. Just pointing out again that recruiting at Trinity IS different from the rest of the NESCAC. To their credit they do a great job. Its easy to understand why a 5-3 season is disastrous in Hartford when you make this kind of commitment to the program.

NewtoNescac-
The site that polar bear73 cited is a basketball recruiting venue.

In my experience it's pretty easy to get advance NESCAC recruiting info for BBall, Hockey and Lax but very difficult to get Football information.
