Polbear73....just picked up the info on the Bowdoin website...thanks for the info.  My takes....Bowdoin pays more than their former place of employment....the offensive coordinator is "relative young".
Maybe I missed some info, what if any are their connection to the new HFC?
They were JB Wells' coordinators at Endicott.

amh63

Duh...forgot!  The time between hiring the Trinity connected HFC and his former DC and OFC was such that I lost the connection somewhere in my empty head. :'(
Guess the time in between was to allow for decisions on what to do with the top former Caputi assistants.  Now that the " package deal" has been completed....my speculation here...the rest of the coaching staff should be announced.
No news of any kind wrt to any more Amherst's "recruits" , though regular decision of admits should be in the mail soon.

polbear73

I think your speculation is pretty solid, amh63. This "housecleaning " represents a departure from the past Bowdoin procedure of retaining assistant coaches. Hate to see people lose jobs, but hope it represents a new commitment to Bowdoin football.

The new OC looks like he's capable of lighting it up with Bowdoin. Lots of passing. The Bowdoin faithful should be really excited.

Which has certainly not been the case the past few years. Hopefully they will be able to find a quarterback from the few on the roster or a couple of incoming recruits.

Without going into specifics and understanding that any change of this magnitude usually brings optimism, there is reason for excitement for the first time in a long time in Brunswick as more signs of improvement will appear in other areas of the program. It can be assumed that these successful coaches did not move to Brunswick just for the Mid Coast lifestyle.

I've had the chance to hear JB Wells speak at a few local football clinics recently.  I like this guy and I have a feeling he will get recruits to go to Bowdoin.

In the words of Monty Python, "And now for something completely different."

If you're missing NESCAC football and MBB, your bracket is busted, and you're looking for a way to spend late Saturday morning, there should be a pretty good contest kicking off at 11:00 tomorrow in Brunswick.  The Bowdoin Women's Lacrosse team is currently undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation, and they have already knocked off Nationally-ranked Williams and thrashed previously #1 ranked Amherst.

The Lady Polar Bears are hosting Middlebury (ranked #10 nationally in the Nike / Lacrosse Magazine poll, and #8 by the IWLCA (International Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association) poll).  The Panthers' IWLCA Hall of Fame coach, Missy Foote, is retiring after this season, so this is her farewell tour.  Her replacement is already on board, in the form of Middlebury alum and former Trinity head coach, Kate Livesay, whose Bants won the NCAA Championship in 2012.

Admittedly, the WLAX rules are darn near inscrutable, and watching the games can be frustrating.  But this should be a really exciting duel between top 10 teams, with both NESCAC and NCAA Tournament implications.  Adding extra spice (and a little NESCAC Football connection), former Bowdoin head coach Dave Caputi's daughter Maggie plays for Midd, while his second daughter Lydia plays for Bowdoin (as does my own little PolarKitten).

Game time is 11:00 and the live video can be found here: http://nsnsports.net/colleges/bowdoin-college/

We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

Strong rumor has it, plus lights, locker rooms and renovated seating in the historic grandstand.

amh63

Polarcat.....everything you posted is a fact!  Do admit that the word " thrashed" wrt the Amherst lost hurted me :'(.  Words do hurt at times.... :). It was an early game...so next time.

Polbear73.......Nice!  Bowdoin should put some money into the football program.

PolarCat,

Take this stuff to the LAX board.  It's starving for posters.  Amh63, it's time for you and I to get back to business over there.  Middhoops told me about this post.  I'm Missy Foote's brother-in-law, btw.  Kate Livesay's parents are high school classmates of mine.  I worked the time clock for Missy's home games for a few years.  That said, women's lacrosse, while it has still has a few silly, over-protective rules remaining, is a great game.  Great athletes.  The NESCAC is THE premier conference in DIII women's lax.  At the end of last season 8 teams were in the Top 20, and deservedly so.  As good as MC's program is, both Trinity and Colby have owned the Panthers over the last 5-6 seasons.  Like Middlebury (5 times), Amherst has also won the national championship and Willaims has played in the championship game.  Hamilton won the crown a season or two before they joined the NESCAC as a playing member a few years back.  The daughter of the longtime Williams HC is very quickly developing a successful program at Wisconsin-Concordia.  The game is growing quickly in the Midwest.  Augustana in particular.  Clearly the best team in the region although the program isn't more then 5 years old, lacking an AQ or other opponent two seasons back they were shipped out to CA to play Redlands in the otherwise regional  1st round on a Wednesday.  Their reward for an upset victory was to travel to play #1 Trinity on Saturday.  Last year they ran the table until losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.  And all of you football fans on this board will be delighted to know that Mt. Union seems to be developing their new programs with the same zeal they put into playing with the pigskin.

And the NESCAC plays serious men's lax as well.  Great game.  You're in the best conference to enjoy it in.  And there is a Lacrosse board out there.

amh63

Vandy74.....OK!   Got my orders here :).  Been watching a number of lacrosse games....both men and women....in the cold cold NE with six foot plus snow piles in the background...tough players.  See you on the correct board.

NewtoNescac

Bowdoin's hosting Junior Day today. Looks like Wells is serious about recruiting. The questions are, will admissions help him out, and will recruits believe in Bowdoin Football.

amh63

Junior Day!?....never heard the term before.  Understand the purpose...making possible recruits aware of Bowdoin...not having a exposure event like a " camp" in the late Summer.

NewtoNescac

Yes, quite a few programs have Junior Day. And if I'm not mistaken Biwdoin is having a few summer camps, as well.
