Tufts fans- bring one of the following to Alfond Field next week:  a ladder, a scissor lift or binoculars  or you are better off staying home and watching a bad internet feed. The worst stadium and most frustrating venue in the league to try and maintain any sight line on the game.

Thank God you warned be before the game to stake out seats on the top row of the visiting stands.

I think I am going to start a cottage industry - set up a concession stand next to the visiting stands, selling these.  In the visiting team's colors, of course.

Add to Lumbercat's list of standout performers today: Bates FY punter Justin Foley, who really should be Special Teams POTW.  He dropped 7 of his 9 punts inside the 20, at the Colby 2, 18, 15, 11, 10, 14 and 1 yard line.  Superb performance.

Way to go, Continentals! Coach Murray gets his first win at Hamilton on the same day that his former assistant, Bob Rankl, takes the Saxons to Alfred University's 500th win in football history. Certainly a day to celebrate. Pep's going to Red Robin for a bottomless root beer float!!

On Saxon Warriors!
Go Continentals!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Polarcat-
You must be psychic----Thanks for that addendum- we departed Waterville for a Bobcat victory  party at the Portland Regency- it was in that venue that I posted from my I phone- as we imbibed with cocktails with some old BobCats the portion of my post on Justin Foley's great punting  performance today did not make it to the board which baffles me....limiting Martini consumption tonight to 2.

Foley.....9 punts with 7 inside the 20 while maintaining a 39 yd average!! Special teams Performance of the Year. In a key situation in the 4th he hit a short field  punt that landed at the 2 with bite that Bates Bomb Squad gunner downed at the 1- key play in the game.

Overlooked on Bates special teams is PK DeWald who continues to make
the big kicks with confidence- the kid wants to be out there and
handles the pressure beautifully. Every team wants the thunder leg
but I'll take a kid all day long who steps up and makes the
big kicks when it matters and 86 has been that guy for the Garnet and Black.

Interesting article in this morning's NYT about the move at Amherst to replace the cureent mascot (Lord Jeff) with a purple moose (not terribly imaginative given the rivalry with Williams).

While I'm not surprised that this movement stirred up passions among alumni and current students I couldn't believe that someone actually punched the student wearing the purple moose costume at a FB game last year.  Get a grip - people aren't supposed to confuse Amherst with LSU on a Saturday night.

Been changing the clocks this morning...yes, still have a number of timepieces that do not reset auto.  Stayed up late watching D1 college football...like the CAC games, some interesting results.
Anyway, looked over the stats of the Amherst win.  Like a broadcast announcer somewhere stated...TOP is often an overstated stat.  I agree, even though Tuft's and Amherst were essentially tied in TOP.  The drive/ scoring summary indicated the dominance of the LJs.  All the Amherst drives were 8-10 play drives of 60 plus yards.  The lone Tuft's drive was 10 plays of around 40 yards.
Tuft's had a net 0.5 yard per run!  Two of Amherst's runners had more yards in fewer carries than the top runner of Tuft's.  Amherst had a balanced offense...Tufts tried but did not succeed.
The Amherst defense dominated!  As in the majority of its games, the defense got stronger in the second half.  Amherst got a safety in the second half.  The Amherst  offensive line started to wear down the game Tufts defensive front.
Oh yes, the online coverage of the game by Tufts was great.  Not a NSN broadcast.  It had a variety of views and had REPLAY!  Student announcers were good and fair.  One still held hopes of a comeback with less than 4 minutes to go. Liked that loyalty.
Enjoyed the Williams HC comments of the game in the write up of the game.

The instant replay was great but anytime the ball was thrown downfield the cameraman would miss the action. The swivel needs grease!

I took a page out of Pep's book and had way too many Root Beer Floats last night in celebration of the Hamilton win but still would like to share my thoughts on the game, headache or not.
In my opinion, it was really a tale of two coaches when it was all said and done. The Ephs showed flashes of greatness with some long pass plays on offense and solid defense at times but for the most part, the team played undisciplined football and seemed, at times, to be in disarray. The Ephs racked up over 100 yds in penalties and several of those came after the play was over keeping some crucial Hamilton drives alive that should've ended up in punts. Two of these penalties involved/targeted the Hamilton QB (hit to the head and unnecessary hit to a defenseless player), questionable play at best but it looked dirty and I think that is a reflection of the coaching. The Eph receiver going down with an injury with 40 seconds left, no timeouts and the clock ticking raised some Hamilton eyebrows as well. Confusion on the field even led to the Ephs wasting a timeout or two. I know many Ephs fans felt like the penalties against them were unfounded and led to their demise and I agree it did contribute, but the dagger was the premature burning of all second half Eph timeouts when time was not really a factor and the score was tight. The Ephs got the ball back with 1:45 left in the game and deep in their own territory, but working with no timeouts left the O with few options and the Hamilton defense was unbending. The final drive never got past the Eph's own 20.
Coach Murray, on the other hand, put a team on the field that played disciplined football, had a game plan that threw everything at the Ephs including a wildcat package with Lashawn Ware taking the snap and QB Cole Freeman at wideout, misdirection on runs and making some of Hamilton's predictable formations extremely unpredictable. Because of all this, Hamilton turned in a season-high rushing attack and opened up the passing game, something that has been missing at times this year. The defense turned in an impressive effort and got even better after the half which can be attributed to Murray.  I've been impressed with Coach Murray all season but yesterday's game showed what an intelligent, creative fball coach he really is. From what I understand, he is very well-liked by the players and gets everything out of the boys. A very deserving win for him and the Hamilton team. As for Williams, I trust they will right the ship and iron out these problems for the sake of the boys.

From the little I've seen of Coach Kelton, he is a class act, whatever the Eph's record may be.  If there were some "dirty" plays yesterday, I think it's a big stretch to say they were a reflection on the coach.  More likely a reflection on the particular player(s) involved.

I wish Kelton well, wherever he winds up next year.

Frank U.....nice bit of info!  Tend to retain those bits of info.  Hard to get Root Beer Floats south of the Mason D line.  Last one I had was about two decades ago.....in a Pharmacy in Lee, Ma,.....where there was still an ice cream fountain area with a marble counter.   Maybe will check out a Red Robin in my neck of the woods.
westcoastDad......where would you put the grease? :)   Need a better alert camera person is my guess.  Plus K all around...AU Pep for the info.
