Alums qua alums or alums qua former players?

Alums who strongly support Williams and Williams football, which may or may not be former Eph football players (although highly likely), but will have some strong connection to the football program and/or the overall Willams Athletic Program.  There should be no reason the current administration or alumni base would want a de-emphasis of "football" at Williams (although there is always this undercurrent at any NESCAC) after spending the $$$ on the new football facilities....yes/no?  Williams and the Sears/Directors Cup which is always touted are tied to winning....why not in Football again.  The right coach should be able to revive the program...let's hope they choose the right coach.  Alums who feel strongly for one candidate or another will likely weigh in.....how much the search committee pays attention to them is up to the search committee, but all information is useful whether its considered or dismissed.  The fact that there is some passion amongst the alums about who becomes the next HFC should be encouraging to the Administration, the Search Committee and most importantly the next HFC...it's better than indifference.

Was reading the WSJ today and it's limited sports page...filled with enjoyable writers.  Topics included the coming NFL games and their QB AND the new HC hires of NFL teams.  For whatever reason, thoughts of possible candidates for the HC job came to mind.
This is not anything devious....coming from an Amherst alum.  My thoughts is for discussion purposes only and the candidate I am putting on the discussion table may not even have applied, etc.
The NFL HC hires discussed tend to be offensive Coordinator types with long experiences within the league.
Amherst has a terrific QB coach with long CAC experience....Anthony  Fucillo..  He is also presently the recruiting coordinator.  He is a coach that I believe Amherst hopes it can keep at Amherst.  He left Amherst earlier and went to WPI as a QB coach and was offered the OC position, I believe.  He returned to Amherst instead.  He knows the CAC, played QB at Tufts and his father is a coach at Tufts.  He knows the recruiting game in the conference and he knows the admission limits at Williams as they are essentially the same as Amherst.  In one brief discussion I had with him about a Williams recruit...a QB from my neck of the woods...he was well aware of the recruit.
Again, I have no knowledge if  my suggested candidate has even applied.  He is not a " big name" former HC, but I think he would like to be a HC in the CAC

Any news on the search?

Saw this posting:

I guess they are still taking applications.

If I recall correctly, the former coach had till the end of the month.  Some applicants would wait a bit I would think...out of courtesy.  Interesting to me is the announcement.  Head coach only considered an assistant professor level pay level and maybe coach another sport.

Having seen other announcements from other colleges, I am pretty sure that this is boiler plate indicating the minimum requirements and "base line" duties.  For the right candidate, I am sure most of these points are negotiable.

I can't believe they actually named a few coaches that have applied. Is that usual and customary? I think Perry would be a great hire.

... Well one of the candidates listed in that article just took the OC job at UMaine, so it's safe to say we can take that list with a grain of salt.

James Perry would be an excellent choice to lead the Williams football program. Remember you read it here first when a selection is
made ....

On paper, Perry looks perfect: coached under Dick Farley and had tremendous success while doing so, recruiting ties to the key areas Williams recruits in, a record of success in coaching QBs and offense in general, a long history of working with the types of kids Williams recruits.

Nescac1 et.al,
I have met James Perry and found him to be as excellent in person as on paper. Of course, Coach Farley's assessment ought to carry weight with the Ephs athletic director who would be wise to incorporate the input from key qualified sources. Hopefully, she'll get this one right ....

Oh! I don't know nearly enough to really comment but I thought I'd say I learned a bit of history with that article.

Looks like "Lord Jeffs" is officially out... will "Moose" be in?

http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2016/01/amherst_college_trustees_vote.html

No -- the letter from the chair of the Amherst board of trustees indicated that there will be a process for the selection of a new mascot and that the "moose" idea was not of any interest.

Does anyone have some info on Colby's recruiting? I understand they're still having players on campus for overnight visits. Quite a few actually.  It seems kind of late for that. Also, apparently they only have 8-9 players committed. That seems like a really low number. Any update word be appreciated.
