Vandy74....nice to hear from a "lost voice" on this board.  Yes, the " inbreeding" continues between Middlebury and Amherst as we both know :).  You had to bring up Mac Foote, the Panther QB by way of Brown Un. whose father is an Amherst alum.  I too suspect that the young man may find his way over to the new baseball diamond.  As I posted on the soccer board, the Bates- Amherst sharing of talent also continues.  The former AD of Amherst was the AD of Bates.  The Amherst men's lacrosse coach had that position at Bates prior to his arrival in Amherst.
It must be noted that the QB coach at Amherst...also the recruiting coordinator....was quite the QB at Tufts.  In brief, there has been quite a few new hires in the off season in the Nescac.
Now what I need to know is if Middlebury has changed their uniform supplier :).

Just a note to Vandy74 and amh63 regarding the Bates-Midd connection.
Not only did Jeff Brown (current Midd hoops coach) transfer down from Bates, but the guy who hired him, Russ Reilly (Bates '66) was the Bates hoops coach before coming to Midd and eventually becoming AD.  Now he's a volunteer asst. to Brown.
Now it's baseball.  May become a tradition; who knows?

I suspect Old Guy is behind all of this. ;)

Don't forget Mac Foote's older brother is an Amherst alum who played lacrosse.

Vandy74...your knowledge is most impressive!
There is an Amherst football tweet today that confirm the start of practice on the 29 th.  It uses the jersey number of a senior WR to state that there are 17 days to go.  The WR is an impressive one standing 6'5" or more with speed.  Remember him getting playing time as a FY player....when there were a bunch of talented WRs returning.
Amherst website has video and pics of the four new upperclass dorms that will be ready on the 25th...indicating the possible arrival date for returning players.

IMO if there's a 6'5 receiver playing NESCAC with speed, the kid's game has more holes than swiss cheese... Can't wait until the 29th!

EphPapa, besides Cahill, any other frosh or returning players who didn't see much time last year to keep an eye on?  Especially with a new head coach, this is the most uncertainly I can recall for a Williams pre-season.  The Ephs don't have a QB who has ever thrown a varsity pass, and Regensburg is the only returning wideout with significant varsity experience.  Both offensive tackle positions are also wide open, I believe, as well.  RB -- led by returning TBs Sorrento and Harris and returning FB Cifrino, plus some interesting depth -- could be a position of strength, if there is anyone to block up front (run blocking in particular has been a big problem for several years).   But the passing game is a total mystery.

The defensive backfield could be an area of strength with Justin Harris returning from injury to join Alex Brandeis at safety, plus a load of experienced options at corner including two rising sophomores who were forced into action early by injuries.  But the front seven on defense also has a lot of uncertainty.  Berry and Monyette should start at LB but the third starter and depth looks wide open.  At DL, Ellis, Gowen and Hattar all played a good amount last year as sophomore and hopefully will make a bigger impact in the trenches as upperclassmen, and I think rising sophomore Austin Thomas will get an opportunity to play on the edge.  But Williams has to find some sort of pass rush, as that area has been totally anemic for the last few season.

The kicking game also seems like a big question mark, as well.

Ephpapa20......welcome to the board! :).  Does your handle mean that your son is a member of the class of 2020?   In any case, suggest you check out the past few seasons of the Amherst vs. Williams game.  You will find out the only holes No.17 found were those in the EPH defense!   Truely!

Papa: About 10 years ago Willians had a WR who stood about 6'5  and ran about 4.60/40. His play was of all-NESCAC quality.    '

For those interested, a great read written by current Amherst offensive lineman, Elijah Zabludoff, about the "stigma" of playing D-3 football

Thanks for the welcome! Yes my son is a member of the 2020 class. I'm going to try my hardest to protect his anonyimity. Yes I know it's been ugly in the past few years, BUT you are only as good as your last kill!

Great question! I know about a few prep school kids. Jeff MacArthur from Exeter should be able to fill in immediately on either side of the ball. Ben Anthony (Andover) should be a solid DB and a return man. Luke Apuzzi (Hun School) will add some depth at WR. Jumaane Ford (Andover) is a wild card. He may be placed at RB/WR/DB this kid is fassst. Along with Cahill, that's a solid class coming from prep schools.

Yes, forgive me for the broad statement. My intended point was that I would rather see a D3 player a bit short or light other than a player with all the D1 metrics.

Great article indeed by Zabludoff.

Thanks for the info, Ephpapa, definitely will keep an eye out for that crew of newcomers.  As noted above Williams has big holes at WR, DE, OT, and QB, not to mention a need for speed everywhere, so there could be some opportunities for frosh ready to make an early impact.  Hope your son has a great experience when he arrives at Williams!
