Yep.... In my opinion Raymond doesn't get judge by wins and losses this year. It's not fair to him. But more in the direction the team is moving. When my son and I visited Williams which was in the very last weeks of Kelton's tenure, the football operations were very lackadaisical. While Coach Ware who was our guide was awesome to spend the day with, the whole visit was just very lax. Too lax...

Now Amherst on the other hand was a recruiting machine. Very polished and prepared. My son was blown away.

A true sign of where the 2 programs were at, at that time. judgemeny of a successful season for the Ephs is in the direction and competitiveness of their games. Raymond has a big job, but an easy sell to get good recruits and return the team to prominence.

Just my 2 cents!

Go Amherst and go UCF (my alma mater) that also is facing a big turn around project to get back to winning conference championships and bowl games after going winless last year, 2 seasons after beating Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl. But Scott Frost is going to make it happen!!!

Papa: Rest assured that your son will have a first rate college experience, whether win, lose or draw a few football games.

That we can agree on. I am wishing for a competitive and healthy season for all of the young men participating.

News of all Fall sports are coming in..in bits and pieces...via several avenues.  Three days of pre- seasons with nice days.
Several comments wrt the recent posts.  From the " peanut gallery" .
The best way to rebuild a program is to get the right coach and staff.  Hoping for Admission help in the Nescac is a very " tricky" road.  Nescac1 mention the Amherst turnaround after the 0-8 season.  The coaches hired came from WPI and brought the present AD and Coach Mills to Amherst.  The Amherst HC left after the rebuild started for Yale.  That coach left Yale and re-emerged again at Wesleyan as a key assistant. That coach even sent a daughter to Williams , I believe.  Yes, the movement within the conference of coaches are fun to follow.  Oh a historic note...Legendary Amherst DARP had a fine assistant that helped the offense.  That assistant left for Trinity and became a legend there.  The Trinity Field is named for him....Miller Field.
PolarCat....sure you are not a writer?  Your post tend to be almost Poetic...especially for a Big Green grad. :)

More NESCAC incest - DARP was an assistant coach at Williams for 4 years before going to Cornell for one and then to Amherst as HFC.

Growing up, I dreamed of being a writer for a major greeting card company.  Then that jerk Al Gore went and invented the internet, and the  market for greeting cards dried up.  Luckily, I had a back up plan, and was able to forge a successful career dancing at Chippendales.  It was there I met my first wife.  She was 40 years older than me, but loaded.  I still miss her from time to time, but the billions she left me have come in handy, now that I'm too old to grind my G-string.  At least in public.

How about a college football highlight reel to kill some time while we wait for the season?  This kid didn't play in the CAC, but he was pretty good.  I understand his alma mater is having him back to campus later this month to serve as an honorary captain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdgpPZJSC_Q

If you really want to be inspired, I think I have some of my old Chippendales tapes lying around.  If you have a working Betamax I can send them your way.   ;D

PolarCat.....just toooo much info!  It's late for me.  If you really want to write for a card company, let me know.
Hopefully will get the conversation back to football in the morning.

What's the name of the blog?  Would love to follow it.   FYI, the Amherst frosh class 2020 should make their first practice today.  As usual, the early practices have been long and intense as coaches try to filter.  The OL and DL appear imposing. The backfield should have an excellent year.  The injury bug has not been kind already but HC is moving around pieces.  Opportunities are there to be had.  Will be interesting to see how aggressive the defense will be early on in season with so many new faces in the secondary.
When is the Williams scrimmage this year?

IslandTime

Scrimmage is Sept 17th @ 1pm at Williams.

Saturday is actually 2nd practice for freshman. My son reported 3-4 players blowing chunks during the 18 - 110's session. So coaches are pushing kids hard straight out of the gate.

But they were warned this summer to show up in shape :)

Back online...so to speak.  Am up in Ithaca NY now...almost New England :).  Brought my grandchild home....she has To be back for school in NY state. She is up at the State Fair in Syracruse today.   Quiet time for me as I ponder the upcoming Nescac season.  Thought to take in a nearby D3 game....Ithaca College or Cortland State.  Yes the season has started for all but the CAC teams.  It is a short pre- season...hence the intense practice for an 8 game season. Any more info on the possibility of a Nine game season??
A comment wrt the scrimmage with Williams on the 17th.  The last few seasons, such a scrimmage has taken on less and less of a true "scrimmage", IMO.  Recall that last year, some scrimmages between schools were " cancelled".  Any opinions here by knowing posters?
Will close with a note.  Yesterday, it was posted on either the Empire 8 or Liberty League board that Springfield College 's starting QB in a game had an serious injury.  Football can be an unforgiven sport at any level, especially for a fan.
