Scary story out of Hartford where a deck collapse at a fraternity party injured 25 students:
http://www.courant.com/breaking-news/hc-hartford-balcony-collapse-0911-20160910-story.html

The "Purple House" has been a popular social spot at Trinity for many years and has been used as a defacto fraternity house for a few greek organizations as well as just a residence in the past. When I was at Trinity it was frequently a "football house". Frankly speaking, the house is a dump. I'm almost surprised those decks didn't collapse sooner. It's a miracle no one was killed or more seriously injured. From what I've heard there were no Trin football players injured, or even in attendance at the party.

Also, on an unrelated note the 2017 U.S. News & World Report rankings are out and the NESCAC is, once again, very well represented in the liberal arts category: Williams (1), Amherst (2), Middlebury (4), Bowdoin (6), Colby (tie 12), Hamilton (tie 12) Wesleyan (21), Bates (27), Trinity (38). Connecticut College, which obviously doesn't have football but is still in the NESCAC, was ranked 50th. Tufts was ranked 27 in the National University category.

Ephpapa20

Just got word that the Williams vs. Amherst scrimmage has been cancelled.

NESCAC.Football.Observer

Eph Dad.... Any other info re Why?  #'s?  Injuries?   Just haven't seen that this late in the week in the last 10 years happening.......

westcoastDad

thanks for the update EphPapa.  This probably has a lot to do with the  injuries and readiness of the very young Williams program.  Injury bug has hit Amherst as well.  Will put alot of pressure on that first game of the season.  Rest. Rest. Rest.

Ephpapa20

I didn't get the reason why, but I'm sure WestCoastDad hit the nail on the head. From what I witnessed last Saturday this was s very smart and responsible move by Coach Raymond. Kudos to him.

Ah, not to worry. Amherst opens with Hamilton...when was the last time the Continentals beat the Lord --oops, I mean whatever they're calling those guys from Amherst these days?

Interesting stuff!
AUPepBand.....call Amherst whatever you wish.  Old alums like myself goes with the Old names.  Other posters here are all over the map.  None yet with "deplorables".
Trinity 8-0....thanks for the info.  Are you going to the scrimmage on Fri?

IslandTime

I like the name "The Defectors" as those still remaining at Williams so lovingly labeled them when Zephaniah decided to set up shop in Amherst.

Or the football team can just be called "Champions" until someone changes that fact. 😜😜😜

Haha! Can't imagine any Amherst fans among Hillary's so-called "Trump basket of deplorables."

+K for the "Amherst Deplorables"

Back again.
FYI, NothingBut Nescac has previews of Wesleyan and Tufts...predicting both as challengers for the title and possible 6-2 seasons.  Provides starting lineups, etc.  There is also a highlight video wrt the coming season for Tufts.  Some shots of fine plays over Middlebury, Williams, etc.  None of Amherst as you can deduce from the write up.

Trinity8-0....NBN may have made a mistake...calling for the Cardinal vs Bantams scrimmage to occur on Sat.  May want notify NBN.  Did notice your Friday unusual date.

Trin9-0

The info I shared regarding the Trin-Wes scrimmage being held on Friday night came via an email from Coach Devanney to Trin football alums so I'm assuming that it's accurate and Nothing But NESCAC likely just assumed it was being held over the weekend.

I won't be attending but I think it's smart to have it on Friday since it starts the players into the routine of a "game week" but allows for an extra rest day on Saturday before final game prep for Bates begins on Sunday. Maybe playing under the lights will provide a little boost in what is usually a vanilla exercise between the two CT rivals. My guess is that very few Trin starters will see any significant playing time; I seem to recall that has been the case in the recent Trin-Wes scrimmages.

Oh God. My brother is a Trinity Alun. My son is a FY at Colby and big brother has already started on me. Have not heard a word from him on his NESCAC loyalties until now. Really big Brother? Colby will rise again but until then, I'm telling mom. LOL  #BTP

westcoastDad

Don't worry ColbyDad, I have a cousin that's an incoming freshman for the Mules as well.  He's heard plenty about the annual butt kicking Amherst has been dishing out.  But, every year is a new year.  One never knows!  Let the Mule coaches know that We've got a kid over here with the last name of Csonka who hails from the Alaska area and plays fullback.  If so, we won't be throwing the ball much lol.

I'm wondering if Amherst will have another intrasquad to prepare for Hamilton.  If memory serves me correct, Hamilton won a game or two last season.  Take nobody for granted!

And, congrats to Miles Gaines who was just elected one of the Amherst team Captains.  Goes to show ya that it's not the size of the dog, it's the size of the fight in the dog!
