While I applaud the Jumbos' approach, why would you boo the Wesleyan players?  Sounds like it was the Wes coach, the AD or maybe even the college president who made that decision.  Why take it out on the players?

I am no Kaepernick fan, but clearly there is an issue that needs to be addressed, and he is keeping the conversation going.  In my personal opinion (and the great thing about America is that every single person on this board can completely disagree with me) the only person who's owned boos in this whole situation is that knucklehead Ditka.  But certainly not the Cards players, who likely have a variety of positions, all of which they were prevented from expressing by the powers-that-be.

Tufts produced video of Wesleyan game.  Looks like a great atmosphere and makes one wish that more NESCAC football games will be under the lights.  As a Bowdoin fan, I am envious of these programs.

For this oldster who saw his first college football game in 1946, football games under the lights feel oh-so high school. Incidentally that 1946 game starred Warren Lahr, the best cornerback at any level, of whom almost no one has heard.

polbear73

Frank, I would normally agree with you and as a fellow oldster, I long for those New England football games played under the sun as a centerpiece of a college weekend.  But with evolution and co-education, NESCAC has become a participation league with, I believe, approximately 60% of NESCAC students playing a varsity sport.  Now with mens and womens soccer, field hockey, etc. fully scheduled on Saturdays, often starting within an hour of the football game, football is no longer that unifying campus centerpiece.  The lights may present that opportunity to be just that again.

frank uible

My guess is that NESCAC night football is more driven by Development Offices than by a desire to unify - commerce over sport.

amh63

FrankU....have to agree with you wrt your CB....never heard of him.  Are you sure it wasn't a youthful experience under the high lights?  Did you follow the player further...more info/ data.
polbear73....thanks for the link to the Tufts game.  Was looking for it earlier, being a Tufts production. Remember attending a Amherst vs Tufts football game in 69-70 timeframe in Medford.  Tufts was a powerhouse then.  Did you ever play on the field there?   Plus K on the link.  Agreed with your comment on the possible unification of student body.  Does increase the attendance.

polbear73

I did play in Medford in my junior year, losing 13-10 in a lack luster game in front of a big crowd in the Oval. It was a lot of fun to play there, but, in those days it was the last week of the season and the field was pretty chewed up. We were fortunate to beat Tufts in Brunswick in '70 and '72.

Thinking of Warren Lahr, CWRU's mascot should be a Red Rider or Rough Cat, not a Spartan

PolarCat

Wow, what a great video!  When I think of Tufts, I tend to think of dentists and veterinarians.  Clearly, there is a great program in film studies / sports journalism in Medford.  Fantastic video, fantastic editing, great selection of music.  Better than some of the stuff we see on ESPN.

Reading down through the thread, I just saw the post by NESCAC.Football.Observer about the Cards carrying on outside the stadium while the anthem was played.  I hadn't seen that when I made my post questioning why the Jumbos fans boo-ed the Cards.  Now I get it.    Under the circumstances, I would have boo-ed them too.

mariner75

Yep.....Tufts have done a great job the past few years with their football videos.  You can view them all on You Tube.

Go Bo's.

Amh63--thanks for the info on Foy--knew you would be on top of things

Polarcat--regarding hype around Sparcio at Colby, really has not ever been any of which I've been aware.  Many think he'd be more effective in another position--LB or TE???

I had it confirmed by a Wes buddy (who was at the game and standing outside the Wes entry point to the field from their area off the track by the scoreboard but who didn't think about it at the time) that during the National Anthem (when he took off his Wes cap and looked to the flag) that the Wes team was hooping and hollering it up as they waited for the National Anthem to end.......

Make your own conclusions.........

GO JUMBOS......... (And, no... I'm not a Jumbo guy......  but good for them.)
That's awful, shame on Wesleyan!

You guys played Tufts in Ireland maybe 15 years ago......correct?  Other teams would be envious of that opportunity.

ColbyFootballDad

WOW!!! Yes. That IS a great TUFTS Video and Atmosphere!

Regarding Colby, I'm excited for my son and glad he is seeing some action. I just read previous post from yesterday and the day before regarding the Colby Quarterback situation, the game at Williams and their level of play. The defense is good and will get better and may surprise people. I don't think i know enough about the offense because they looked good early but after the injury to 13 it took a while for 10 to figure things out and Williams had a similar issue with both QBs that played.  I believe both defenses will hold their own this season. The Offenses will put them in difficult positions if those young QBs don't figure it out soon.

Regarding the selection of schools in the NESCAC  from yesterday's conversations on this board. I must say that I was surprised he chose Colby over over all the others but he knew right away that Colby was the school for him. It is the least like where he grew up of all the rest was likely a factor. He is now in the mix on the field as an FY and feels like he'll is apart of rebuilding or building a winning football program. My son also considered and was recruited by Case Western and  WC,TU, TC,and BC in the NESCAC. He knows very good football players that were cut at Trinity after being recruited and told they'd have a role.  SAD Situation for guys playing their last years of football who are fantastic students and young men in my view. We only really considered the NESCAC schools and had no interest in even discussing his only D1 opportunity at Holy Cross. If he is happy, so am I.  They'll compete, get better and BTW I don't believe they are horrible. I expect them to prove that assertion on the field.  I predict wins at Bates, Hamilton, and Bowdoin and a few close ones that no one expects based on my research.  This is my last post until the end of the season. Lets see how i do. TTYL #BTP

According to my limited source(obviously my son -lol), Harrington is out this week and probably for the season. He wasn't privy to why Sparacio is not starting. Does anyone have any QB info? Gridiron is suggesting LB or TE, so I assume he's big with some speed. If that's the case what's the issue? Doesn't have the arm?

Colbyfootball

I met Sparcio after the game and he played on the offensive side of the ball as a receiver. My son says he is happy and it seemed like the right thing to do from a football standpoint.
