Knew a NESCAC coach in the old days who had a 21-124 career record.  Sure glad they didn't drop his sport.  My life is richer today for having had him in it.

Watched a defensive struggle in Medford today in challenging conditions. Not the result the Garnet faithful were hoping for but the Bates defense played extremely well. They are not big but boy they get to the football- that bodes well for the Bobcats in the remaining 6 games.

I have been a great supporter of Bates LB Mark Upton. I hesitate to get on the soapbox again because I know the kid is humble and collectively with Bates coach Harriman they place total emphasis on wins relative to individual honors but I have to point something out.

No sour grapes here and no axe to grind with the Brown and Blue.......check that, Grey, Brown and Blue.

I stood in the rain today and watched a good game. Upton was the best defensive player on the field without question--totally dominant.

The "stats" tell a different story......The Tufts log on the game shows Upton with 11 tackles and 6 assists. We all know assists is kind of a subjective category but those numbers seemed "off" to me so I watched the game tape again when I got home.

Here are the real results for Upton: Tackles- 13   Assists-14   TFL- 3   Sacks- 1

Who did you take tackles away from? Did you credit more than two people on any individual stop?

Called an Amherst parent buddy........

- QB Berluti has a knee injury and supposedly was getting an MRI today.
- OL injury (foot/ankle) not deemed serious.
- K Wall was being suspended for a game for conduct detrimental to the team.

NFObserver...thanks for the info/ update!  Plus K
Both injuries seemed to have occurred in midst of a pileup of bodies.  Hoping for the best.
Encouraged by the play of the replacement Amherst QBs.  The freshman QB comes from a well respected MA. football program.  Presently, he is a little underweight at 175 lbs, IMO.  Not worried wrt to mental or composure aspects.
Amherst has to run well against the Panthers and keep the ball away from Midds' QB.  Do not believe the Panther's defense has been challenged to date.  Do not want a shootout sort of a game where the last team to have the ball wins.  Amherst's high power offense have lost some horsepower...its defense will have to make up  the difference.  Cannot compare the kicking game or special teams.  If Wall returns and based on a reread of NothingButNescac ....maybe Amherst has an advantage on special teams...to overcome the "homefield" factors.
Back to the Ryder Cup....the Redskins won at home today....finally.  Ironic penalty called on the Washington Redskin defensive back after he made an interception.  The DB made a gesture of shooting an arrow into the sky.....15yd penalty.  Puzzled one set of announcers.

Pat Coleman-
watched only Upton- didn't take anything away from anyone else and gave only one assist on any play.
A few times he made initial hit and ended up at bottom of pile--his muddied 48 jersey was mistaken---no question.

Did I miss the announcement of a 9 game schedule in 2018 or are you just playing games?

For what it's worth, the announcer on the Bowdoin-Amherst stream said that the presidents voted down a 9th game. I don't know how current his information is and I took it with a grain of salt.

Did you infer that the announcer was alluding to "the vote" that took place on a ninth game a few years ago or was this something that took place recently?

Amh63-
Knowing that you never miss a Jeffs webcast did you hear anything relative the 9th game ?

polbear73

Lumbercat, I wasn't sure but I assumed it was the old vote and that he isn't privy  to any new information.

JumbosMom

It's my understanding it went up for vote again this year and shot down .

We don't play games. Go back and look at our posts over the last 4 years wrt coaching changes, injuries, players, mascots, and other miscellaneous NESCAC football related events and you will see that we are right way more than we are wrong. We stick by the 9th game in 2018, which should be about the same time the Ephs win a game again.

frank uible

If 9 game schedules are absolutely determined to happen, why would the powers wait until 2018 to effect it? Why not announce it now and do it in 2017? There are no apparent scheduling entanglements.

polbear73

Does NESCAC usually make a formal announcement on similar things are do they usually get disseminated through word of mouth or magically just show up when schedules are released?

Heard or read nothing on the matter wrt Amherst website.  The Amherst web is becoming less transparent.
