Solid picks, PC and loved the quotations, except for the end of Coach Wells'.  Bowdoin can't afford to give anyone bulletin board material!

Although, unless I am missing something, good as Leibowitz may well be, I think he is going to have a hard time engineering anything more than a 25-yard drive in overtime (should the game get that far).

PolarCat

Picky, picky, picky.  Did you also complain when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

My crystal ball told me the Panthers line up in the shotgun in OT, and the first snap sails over Leibowitz' head, all the way to the Midd 22 before it's recovered.  Satisfied?

Guys!  Play nice.  You may have hit a touchy nerve PolarCat....AmhStud05 was a DB of note on the football team and a team captain to boot :).  Also a team captain on one of the better Amherst basketball teams.

I am afraid you have me confused with another poster, amh63.  My competitive playing days ended in about 10th grade!

Yes, my confusion can be blamed on PolarCat!...and I'm sticking to that deflection :). Was trying to figure out PC's who bombed where comment.
Actually, the Amherst poster I was referring to has numbers in his " handle"  and was in school with AmhStud05 for several years...member of the '07 National MBB Title Team.   Suspected my error.  Old well, can also blame my senior citizen status memory...just don't have enough memory capacity.

The poster I was initially referring too is....TheHerst2and4.  The numbers are his jersey numbers in football and basketball.  Captain in both sports his senior year.

Seriously?

You think they don't know already?   You think the Middlebury prep school kids who went to Andover/Exeter/Taft/Deerfield/Choate aren't talking to their buddies at Amherst who either play at Amherst or who have friends?

GMAFB............

AMEN to that...

At least it's "football talk" vs all this other stuff I'm reading............

AMEN squared...

Word out of Amherst is that Berluti might be gone for the season but regardless he is out for this week.   With the graduation losses to the offensive line, I don't see Amherst being able to score enough points versus a good Middlebury defense this upcoming weekend.

It's tough to say how good the panther defense is, their first 2 games came easy for them.  This week there should be a few more answers.

I feel that this battle of the Titans...as NBN calls it...will not only be entertaining but revealing for both teams.  Middlebury's passing offense has not met a defense like Amherst.  Middlebury's  defense has not faced a balanced offense like Amherst, regardless of who the QB is starting.  The rebuilt OL is coming along nicely, IMO, and there is a nice group of RBs with power, speed in the open field, quickness and can catch the ball..  Middlebury's WRs are young and replacing some graduated standouts.  Amherst has a number of returning receivers that are big and fast.  Middlebury has big OLinemen, BUT the line has NOT faced the Amherst DLs and LBs who are, big, experienced and deep in talent.
Yes, the DBs of Amherst are young and will be challenged.
Oh well....both sets of coaches are first class.  Both squads are full of talented players that can go 5 deep...Amherst has played 3 QBs to date.  It may come down to which team has the best "  special teams".  Middlebury is the hometeam and I read that it is Parent Weekend in the Green Mountains.
Going for 22!

Two years ago....same type of scenario at Middlebury.....and it rained.....which negated their passing attack.  Amherst got the W.

PolarCat

Has Charlie Wall served his time in the penalty box, said 5 Hail Mary's and 4 Our Father's and been granted absolution so he can play this week?

Would love to know what he was suspended for.  Blowing up a an OL who missed his assignment and allowed those kicks to get blocked?  Or something more mundane?  (Feel free to PM me if you want to share, but not in public).

sure wish I could send some of my rain up there.

I just evacuated Merritt Island/Cape Canaveral due to Hurricane Mathew. Was planning on flying up and watching the Amherst/Middlebury game as my first NESCAC game. Totally bummed!

Hoping my home on the Beautiful Banana River is still there when I head back to assess the damage. Life is crazy. We went from anticipating a great weekend in Mass with a road trip to Middlebury to hoping our home that I built 18 months ago is still standing in 24 hours.

Anyhow.... GO AMHERST!!!
