One gets what one pays for. It is unlikely that one will get Bob Costas on a volunteer basis.

Get what one pays for?  I could understand if this were a state school?  Has anyone checked the tuition for Amherst 2016-17?

No excuses.  Get it right!

What portion of Amherst's revenues goes to its sports announcers? If any does, then its underpaid faculty and staff ought to raise hell.

westcoastDad

The faculty gets paid handsomely.  But, that's the problem then maybe charging a $1 game entry?  Proceeds to the announcer.  Just get someone who can read the program and see the numbers of the players.  Of course, with a decent voice

WCD....One of the primary reasons Middlebury High School football is a perennial DI power in the state of Vermont is that most of the sons of Middlebury College coaches and professors play there instead of at Choate or Phillips Exeter.  I'm sure the coaches and faculty are paid well enough, but "handsomely" is probably a stretch.  This is DIII not DI.  NSN announcers are not NESCAC employees.  NESCAC athletic events are free admission until tournament time.  Since few outdoor athletic fields are even enclosed or gated we pay the $5 out of respect for the rules.   Such is life.  Learn to live with it.

Your Trojans are on a roll.  I hope the coming bye week doesn't break their stride.  My Commodores beat Georgia on Saturday. :o  That one I would have paid to see. ;)

Vandy:  I have always had great respect for Vanderbilt competing in the SEC while maintaining their academic standards, much like Stanford in the Pac 10 and Northeastern in the Big 10.  Hence my frustration with my alma mater in trying to compete with their academic peers.

I have had discussions with NESCAC coaches about compensation and I can assure that "handsomely" is not part of the discussions.  For the most part, most choose to coach in NESCAC for the lifestyle, the ability to work with top student athletes, and perhaps the not insignificant perk of a free NESCAC education for qualified offspring.  Sure, there are exceptions, but none get rich in this league.

The colleges pay the fees to NSN and pass along the streaming free of charge.  For the most part, the streaming is more than adequate and I'm grateful to have it when I can't make it back to campus.

Amazing that we are half done with the season.  By Saturday night either Wes or Amherst will be 90% done...

All you need to know about Bates Football in one simple statistic:

According to the NESCAC weekly recap, Justin Foley has punted 47 times this season.  His nearest "rivals" (the punters for Bowdoin and Williams) are tied at 32.

Polbear73....Thanks for the info regarding the money link between NESCAC and NSN.  I stand corrected.  It's not the first time.   The improvement in streaming quality since NSN took over more than makes up for any inconsistencies in the quality of the broadcasting. IMO.  After 3 seasons of James Franklin Commodore fans are having a hard time accepting the return to normalcy.  I like Derek Mason but thus far his talent seems to be that of a DC, not an HC.  I remain hopeful however.  Anchor Down.

At what school? That's a hell of a benefit, if true. At Middlebury, tuition remission is around 40 percent for faculty and staff. That's obviously a very generous benefit. A 100 percent remission would be a $250,000 bonus per child!

PolarCat

My understanding is that the remission is reciprocal among NESCAC schools.  Which is probably a good thing, as some kids may not want to attend the same school where Mom or Dad coaches.  I know of one coach who had 2 kids at Bowdoin, 1 at Colby and 1 at Midd.

Pep benefited greatly from Alfred University's generous 100% tuition remission for three of his children, a benefit Pep would estimate in the neighborhood of about $300,000.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!

Rumor has it that Jim Harbaugh's annual salary from U/M  is roughly 7 million - of course excluding endorsement and other receipts from other sources..
