Trin9-0

I was able to watch the first half of the Trinity - Tufts broadcast on my phone and I came away thoroughly impressed with the Bantams. They responded well to the Jumbos taking an early lead and absolutely dominated the second quarter.

If there is a concern you can point to their struggles converting red zone trips into touchdowns. It's great to know you have a reliable kicker, but against Middlebury/Amherst/Wesleyan field goals may not cut it. Also, while the Trin secondary was very good they did let up a few big plays over the top that made the final score closer than it really was.

Overall, I'm thrilled with how the Bants performed against a quality opponent. Hoping they survive this week's trip to Brunswick injury-free and then focus on the big showdown with the Panthers in The Coop.

So as the Colby coaching soap opera continues to ramp up, there is new word off the hill. Grab the popcorn.

New word is that they attempted to fire Michaeles last offseason, at the same time they transitioned his wife out of the Women's Hockey HC role. The wife was pregnant at the time. Now the soap opera takes a head when Michaeles and wife threatened to sue for wrongful termination. The wife transitioned to a role in alumni relations and Michaeles was given the 4-4 ultimatum. So it would seem to add that Colby is committed to moving on from the Michaeles era.

I suspect they will be better for it.

Trin DB's have lots to work on.

If the Tufts dual threat QB #6 had been a better thrower, Tufts would have had 2 long TD throws from him (in addition to the blown coverage at the end of the first half).  Tufts #6 missed an out and up to a WR early in the 1st Quarter, and he missed an open WR on a post being covered by a safety in the 3rd (?) quarter.   His balls were flat and he overthrew both.

Trin was lucky Tufts #12 wasn't throwing those.....  He has the touch to make those throws.

And there was no excuse for the last 2 TD's... Trin DB's as a group knew #12 was going to be throwing, and on 3 consecutive throws they allowed the Tufts receivers to get behind them.

If Michaeles needs to win 3 of his last 4, the 10/29  Colby-Bates game takes on huge significance.  They have a good chance of beating Hamilton this weekend, and Bowdoin on November 12th.  But unless half the Jumbo roster gets suspended or comes down with Zika, there is zero chance they will beat Tufts on November 5th.  So Game 1 of the CBB on Halloween Weekend is make-it-or-break-it for Michaeles.

Rumor has it that Jim Harbaugh's annual salary from U/M  is roughly 7 million - of course excluding endorsement and other receipts from other sources..

Amazing........although he has probably paid for himself many times over with what he has done for the program and the increased giving from the alums.

My understanding is that the remission is reciprocal among NESCAC schools.  Which is probably a good thing, as some kids may not want to attend the same school where Mom or Dad coaches.  I know of one coach who had 2 kids at Bowdoin, 1 at Colby and 1 at Midd.

Correct. The benefit, at least at Middlebury, extends to any school, not just any NESCAC school. Middlebury will cover 40 percent of a dependent child's tuition at any school (unless that school has a higher tuition than Midd, in which case, the college will pay 40 percent of Midd's tuition figure.)

My question is: what school is paying 100 percent??!! You said "free NESCAC education" in your initial post.

Anyone know what's up with Tufts QB Jonathan DiBiaso?  He transferred in from Dartmouth, and set almost every record in HS... I anticipated he would slide right to a prominent role... doesn't seem to have materialized...

Interesting mixture of posts.  My comments on several topics.
Trinity 8-0...thanks for your comments on the Trinity win...good to hear from a former Bantam player.
NFO....you too! Perceptive comments.
Frank U....thought the Un of Mich coach had limited his salary to only 5 million when returned " home".  It must be noted that the football program at UMich has been a money generator for decades.  Read an article awhile ago that the program generated enough funds for the rest of the athletic programs and even some non varsity sports.

Yup. I would say they are likely to go 1-1 against Bowdoin and Hamilton. Tufts seems an almost obvious loss. So yes Bates would be the obvious make or break. It is fun to remember that Bates win @Colby last year was the first time a non-home team won a Colby CBB game since 2010.

But I think my position is clear. It is time for change in Waterville. And I do not think they come out at 4-4.

If Colby loses to either Bowdoin or Hamilton, the Bates game is academic.  Even if they beat my 'Cats, the best they could finish would be 3-5.  Unless, of course, the entire Wes team comes down with mumps or falls off a fraternity balcony the night before they play the Mules.

amh63 - Part of the rumor is that after the first year he got a 2 million raise.

I did and I have been told that through remission and grants, the cost of a NESCAC education was covered. This came from a Bowdoin coach in the recent past.

Back again to provide comments on the topic of sports announcers and tuition " breaks".
First, the announcers/game coverages.  Years ago...before NSN...the online coverage was "rough" to the extent that I thought to pay for updated cameras.  In the basketball game coverages, generally students for the game coverage and "color" aspects.  Recently, there was a former player that would point out BB moves, etc.  The closeness to the players on the team was the use of "nicknames" for the players.  This would confuse the online audience at time.  Social media shout outs were encouraged, etc.  Do not know how much they were compensated.  Remember a longtime MBB poster complain about a Bowdoin student announcer/color person referring to the PolarBears as the "Black Bears".  The poster was not part of the Bowdoin family.

Now the question of possible compensation for faculty/staff around the conference.  First it varies around the CAC.  Example...some schools refer to coaches as "--- professors" and consider them faculty....other schools do not.
The question of compensation is murky and not transparent these days.  Years ago, I would get detail financial info...breakdowns of the Amherst financials.  Recently, less info wrt to faculty....starting about 2007.  Such numbers would have breakdown of salaries and medical and retiring contributions, etc.
It is interesting that there were school contributions to staff retirements that are different for Library staff and general staff, etc.  Then there is the Endownments breakdown for faculty and other activities.  There is Endownments for faculty positions that vary greatly.  Years ago an endowed faculty position would be in the 2-3 Million gift level and often would be much greater and grow to higher levels...greater than 5-million.  Annual pull out for expenses from the Amherst Endownments is normally set between 4-5 percent.  One of the biggest endowed professorship is the one named for the DARP....yes, for the football coach.  Believe it was the 2nd such sports related one in the nation....the first one was at Yale.  Though funded mainly by alum that played football, the professorship is moved around the faculty...such as the head off the Geology dept.  Pays for prof and more.  Yes there is compensation for faculty and others when a child goes to another school...even to the Ivies.  Total tuition?  Do not know.
Last point on this topic.  Generations ago, there was a effort at Harvard and one at Amherst that basically stated that if you are admitted, and was born in Cambridge, MA it was free tuition.  At Amherst, it may have been raised in Amherst and attended Amherst public schools.  Long gone at Cambridge....had one child born in Cambridge.  Believe a classmate was the last generation of such a scholarship at Amherst.

The last 2 TD's were on Trinity's 2nd D. Both long receptions were to the Jumbo's tight end.
It was clear that the Jumbo's coaching staff did not have confidence in the passing game on Saturday. Down 3 scores in the middle of the 4th quarter and it was nothing but a heavy dose of Bradey.
