Utah man.  Go away with this.  Let it go dude. Go find an Osmond's re-run or something.  Marie was a doll indeed.

But, let it go.

Specialist is all I said.

I will let it go.  Good to see you admit you are wrong.  Good luck this weekend.

QuoteGotta give him at least 3yrs!   He's starting 2-3 FY on O and 4-6 on D.  That tells me he's already significantly out recruited the talent Caputi left him..  2 more classes of the same caliber, then there will be something to judge.   From what I've observed, he's building a strong culture there and they are recruiting their butts off.  I have faith!

Like the optimism!  Hope you are right.  +k to you.

westcoastDad

Specialists.

How u see that as an admission of right or wrong.....I don't know.

But, whatever floats your boat.

:)

The read option offense trends towards a QB league.  Why?  It's eaSier to defend the run when there is not a blocking back.  So teams throw more.

PolarCat.....who in your family is a special teams player or Kicker?  Antennas are up!

McGonagle our punter/wide out extraordinaire from last year is trying to make the league as a punter.

Who in their right mind WANTs their kid to play in the NFL?  After taking my son to see Concussion this summer he said, " I have 16 games to go Dad.  I'm done."

I'm sorry Polar Cat....a kicker is NOT a football player.  If he's not blocking, tackling or being hit routinely to help his team move up and down the gridiron.... get the heck outta here.

Concussion was about FOOTBALL PLAYERS.  not placekickers who randomly make contact with another player.....maybe once a game.

Stop it man!

Oh I can move on, but I was following this conversation and you just got out of control.  You first argued (and actually were right and I agree with you) about how kickers are specialists and how the game has changed.  But then you started using kettle logic and couldn't even defend (or remember I guess) your original point.

Anyway, moving on.

Lol.

I stand by it.  My definition was clearly stated as to what I deemed to be a "football player".

I was very crystal clear.

Thanks for that confirmation.

Pep has watched football for a few years. Kickers ARE football players. Pep will use the AU win over RPI this season to make his point. At Alfred, the PK is also the punter. Trevor Monk has grown considerably as a football player since arriving on the scene in the fall of 2014. First of all, Monk was 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts and 3-for-3 on PATs in the 33-17 win over RPI. More importantly, however, was his play early in the third quarter. RPI took the second half kickoff, marched down the field and scored to make it 27-7. The ensuing kickoff was short and recovered by RPI and two plays later (thanks to a PI penalty), the score was 27-14. The AU offense, for the first time in the game, went three-and-out and Monk was called on to punt. He got a good one away but coverage broke down...Monk ran down the return guy and tackled him, saving a sure TD. The AU defense stiffened and yielded just a field goal...it's now 27-17. It could have been 27-21. After sustained drives, Monk hit two field goals to account for the final score of 33-17.

Monk is a football player. He works just as hard improving his kicking skills as the O-linemen do in their blocking schemes, the WRs on running routes, LBs in filling the gaps, QBs reading the defense and making good throws....that's what Pep likes about football. It takes all kinds of skill people to field a team! Every one of them is called upon to contribute their skills....and to do whatever is necessary for the success of the team.

On Saxon Warriors!

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

roflol.  No, I wasn't.  But, I did hold for those PK guys my senior year.  I was All City as a Cornerback but also the backup QB.  And, because I was a natural lefty (but threw right) holding for the kicks was a natural for me (catch with left and place it).

I was bullied by Samoans on the team when I beat out the local legend at QB (who later went to Boise St).  I was a transfer kid.  Nobody liked the fact that an unknown could beat out the kid raised in their local Pop Warner.  I became the backup after playing a sandlot game (following a game a threw 3 TDs) and injured my throwing shoulder.  Was never the same.  Moved me to defense and still made All City.

Any other questions?

How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains? .....Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions.  No doubt.  No doubt in my mind.

I guess those girls that hold up those "Round 4" cards are boxers too.  They are part of the game.  The crowd goes crazy when they do their part.  Lots of pressure not to fall or trip wearing those high heels in the ring and stepping into and out of the ring.  Pressure!

Wow, this is a subject that won't quit.  After following these posts for a few days, and having a long drive with lots of windshield time between phone calls, here are my thoughts:

After the NESCAC season, lets split up all the players from all schools  by position.  All centers on one team, all guards, all tackles, TE, WR, RB, SS, FS, CBs, LB, etc etc.  you get the gist. 22 to 24 teams if you include the kickers and punters all made up with players from the same position.

We can sponsor a full tackle football tournament, all teams play until one position group team comes out a winner.  Which position group team wins??

No right or wrong answer, just opinions.  I'll be routing for Team Center or Team Guard.  I don't know who would win but it could make for some good reality TV!

If you don't like that idea, try this one:

We take teams from each of the major sports. Ie. A football team, baseball team, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, golf, volleyball, swimming, crew, diving, etc, etc..

We hold a tournament in each sport.  Winner of each tournament gets 10 points, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, 7 for 4th, etc, etc.  you can probably assume that each team would take 1st place in their respective sport.  Which sport team accumulates the highest amount of total points when all the tournaments are done and the scores tallied?  Could be another interesting reality TV event!

Last thought - if a kicker is not a football player, how do we classify the holder?  I am in the - of course they are both football players camp ... But it's all good!  Kind of enjoyed the banter over the last few days.

Hey West Coast -

What's your view on longsnappers? I figure you would love to pull some crazy logic about their pointlessness and not-actual-football-player status? They don't even score points but only perform one unique task on two types of plays. They definitely aren't players. (hard sarcasm in case you missed it)

Since NESCAC players in the NFL and whether or not they're even football players have been the big topics of conversation I thought this was relevant:

Looks like NESCAC.com went with just "Steve" when he made All Conference in 2006:

The holder is usually the backup QB.

The longsnapper is a dicey one.  At first thought....No....but in lieu that he actually wears pads , makes tackles and a flag isn't thrown for knocking him on his rear......

But, no.....that position is a specialist that is dependent on needing a punter.

Since we really don't need a punter.....we really don't need a long snapper.

:)

Now, now, boys.  Hauschka may be in the NFL, and he may have won a Super Bowl, but he played soccer through high school.  He was never All City, so by definition, he will never be a football player.  QED.

Even without a Super Bowl ring, WCD is twice the player Hauschka could ever be.  Let's all just concede that so we can move on.

The story, as I've heard it, is that Hauschka sent inquiries to 30 DI schools and only heard back from 3 of them.  The AD at N.C. State at the time was Lee Fowler who was one of my best friends at Vandy.  "Middlebury College" just might have caught his eye.  Just saying.  Steven/Stephen/Steve....I never hear from you.  You don't don't call.  You don't write.  You don't answer your phone.  Where's the love? ::) ::) ;)
