NECN is broadcasting the Mass High School Super Bowls, and Williams commit Bobby Maimaron and his Duxbury teammates are on right now.  At halftime, Duxbury leads Shrewsbury 20-7.  Maimaron is very, very good (2 passing TD's and one beautiful rushing TD).  His favorite receiver #1 Ryan Reagan is truly outstanding.  Definitely a D1 caliber receiver.

Second half should be starting soon.

Heading back to look at Colby next week is there something we need to know?

My suggestions for things worth knowing:

1. If football wasn't part of the equation (your son had a career-ending injury, or football was abolished by order of Congress) is this where your son would want to attend college?

2. What's more important to him?  The chance to get playing time as a FY and sophomore?  Or being on a team vying for a championship?

Everything else flow from there.  Many of the Mule faithful would like to see Michaeles gone.  That may or may not happen.  The program has been a bit of a rudderless ship the past couple years, but there are some talented players, and lots of fine young men.  They may turn it around, or they may not.  How much do wins and losses matter to your kid?

If the answer is "not that much" and he loves everything else about Colby and Waterville, a coaching change should be almost a non-issue.

Colby's having the end of season banquet today. No sign of Michaeles being let go. Maybe after EDI announcements. Anyone have any information?

Great school academically. President and AD seem to be committed to building a winning football program, so I am optimistic. I do expect a change at the HC position, and think the OC will be moving on. The OC is looking to coach at a higher level as he came over from U of Maine right before camp opened. The HC is a nice guy but a terrible HC and offensive coach. The defensive coach is a fixture at Colby and the best coach on the squad. What position does your son play?
Son is WR/DBS. We are making the trip from Seattle so any insight is good.THANK YOU

Colby has a movie script campus. Walkable. Drink it in.

Maimaron and Duxbury looked pretty good on Saturday.  Let's hope he can get on the field early in his Williams career.  Go EPHS!

One other Duxbury player will be playing in the CAC next year.  Safety Connor Hunt will be coming to Bates, and competing for the spot vacated by graduating senior captain Trevor Lyons.  Like Maimaron, he also plays Lax for Duxbury, and may be a two sport athlete in Lewiston.  Their teammate Ryan Reagan is headed to Harvard.  Pretty good college placements for the Duxbury program.

Time for Retired Mule to weigh in on the puzzling Colby scene.

I was shocked by this. He was a big part of the program. I wish I knew what was going on. But something's up. What are your feelings on Michaeles staying on as HC? I think they need to replace him if they want to win more than 1 to 4 games. They will never come close to beating the big boys with him at the helm.

I am watching this closely but my son is happy and learning a great deal at Colby. His football career is nearly over and i'd it to improve but he has to worry most about his own contributions and positive impact on the program. He got many chances as a first year and he must improve and grow the program 1st with his contributions and personal commitment.   Having said that this is who we lost "Matt Hanhold was in his his fifth season overall and his second as associate head coach for Colby, leading the team's defensive line and serving his third year as the Mules' recruiting coordinator. Hanhold coached defensive end Ryan Ruiz, a 2015 All-NESCAC selection. He also coached defensive end Ryan Veillette, an All-Region and All-NESCAC selection in 2012, and helped CT Harris earn All-NESCAC honors in 2013 and 2014"

He was not just another guy. He was a part of what is right with Colby Football certainly. In my humble opinion. :-)

Williams announced they will be releasing ED decisions this Friday evening.  Amen!  The unofficial word from coaches finally becomes official.  Curious to hear the results.

BTW: I expected Colby to be 4 and 4. I expected them to win the CBB as well. Hurdle-Price and Harrington played the last game while injured. Hats off to their personal commitment and leadership.  Colby is just not good enough to win against Amherst, Middlebury, Wesleyan, or Tufts. They should have played all of those games a bit closer with their talent.  Their talent is a lot closer to those teams than anyone believes but I honestly can't say and dont know the reason why it is not showing on the field. The HC is always where the buc stops. Lets see what happens.

All this talk about firing a coach because his 2016 record is 3-5 is unsettling.  This isn't division 1 where coaches make a million dollars plus, and teams are on ESPN every week.

A point to consider.  There are visitors to this boards whose sons are deciding where to play college ball, whether that is in 2017 or 2018.  Meadowdale is one example, but I am sure there are others.  While I understand there are Colby parents who are unhappy with the coaching, you can find at least a couple of folks who are upset with ANY coach ANYWHERE.  As an example, even Mills took some flak at the end of this season.

Venting your displeasure with your son's coach on the internet may be therapeutic, but it's unlikely to have any real effect.  The AD and the Board are going to do what they're going to do.  (Witness how much longer Kelton stayed around than many Eph fans wanted).  So you might ask yourself, "Is my coming on here and bashing the coach constantly going to turn away any prospective recruits, kids who could have an impact on the program, and help my son have a winning season in his junior or senior year?"

The Law of Unintended Consequences leads me to believe that that star RB or amazing DB who is torn between Colby, Bates and Williams may read this board and say "Nope.  I don't need this drama.  I won't be playing on Mayflower Hill." Just a thought.

IslandTime

To that point.
Last year this time when my son was visiting 4 different NESCAC schools, and we were looking everywhere for information in regards to these prospective programs, I found this board and read it top to bottom.

Being from out of the area (Florida) and also a football message board guy for my own alma mater, I knew I could find so info here about the programs/schools that I couldn't get anywhere else.

The campus visits and interactions with coaches and players were easily the biggest factors for my son, but like I said, as a football parent (football junkie), I read this board from front to back.
