IslandTime....Agree!  Have to admit to posters here that I was one of the 9000 plus voters ;D.  I voted for Wolves.  Seems that the new mascot can apply to both men and women teams.
Big notice on Amherst website and athletic website.

Quote from: PolarCat on March 30, 2017, 07:40:19 AMAs polbear73 and lumbercat know, our daughter is a WLAX player at Bowdoin.  I have mixed feelings about moving Men's Lacrosse to Whittier, but leaving WLAX at old, tired Ryan Field.  On the plus side, maybe having multiple sports at the venue will encourage Clayton Rose to actually show up at Whittier.  But the move will make Bowdoin one of the few CAC schools (maybe the only CAC school?) to have the men and women play at different venues.  Would love to know the thinking behind that call.

Wesleyan also separates its men's and women's lacrosse teams across different fields - men on Citrin Field (turf)/Jackson Field "the Birdcage" (grass), while women play solely on Smith Field (turf and also used for field hockey). The Wes soccer teams (the analogous fall sport) have no such separation and share Jackson's grass field.

It seems like this belongs on the Lax board but whatever.  The Middlebury women play on their own turf field which also serves the field hockey team.  The men play on the football field.

Grabowski

I hope that at least one vote for "Mammoths" was inspired by Mark Harris' baseball novels

I guess it's time for JEFFFAN to change his Board name.

The Mammoth v. Jumbo showdown/family reunion will be one for the ages!!

Grabowski....the probability that one of the 4000 plus voters of the new mascot was inspired by your cited writer and novels is very high.
However, I am not aware of Mike Harris' novels and need a little " education" here please :).
On the other hand, I am sure that when the Tufts vs Amherst game rolls around, there will be many posts in the media and here that will make the Mascots  comparison.

That will not be happening, Polbear73. Never. They will always be the Jeffs to me!

Some grumblings  in Medford that Amherst mascot selection seems to compromise the Tufts very unique identity with their  Jumbo mascot.
Surprised the Jeffs didn't make a selection that is a bit more original and not resembling others in the conference.

At the risk of being called a "hater"  I will re state sentiments on this board from others who characterized this whole Amherst mascot deal as a total farce. Beginning with the denouncement of the Lord Jeff mascot until the selections of the whole Mammoth thing. Just awful. Are they that wrapped up in PC at Amherst. So much pomp and circumstance.

Go Ephs.

IslandTime

Amherst has had a complete Mammoth skeleton on their campus for almost 100 years. It was the only logical choice once the decision to step away from from the Lord Jeffs.

Great choice that actually has a real connection to the campus. Your complaining about Amherst being PC by them doing something un-PC and rubbing Tufts the wrong way.

Huh???

Go Mammoths!

As an opponent, they will be to me as well.  However, PolarCat's suggestion is a very worthy replacement!

I think that my friend polbear73 is enjoying this way too much!

Lumbercat....agreed with your points wrt the selection "farce"....since I was an initial poster of the rigged system that eliminated any reference to Lord Jeff.  It was PC only in that the present Prez is a very, very PC/progressive left and initiated the movement for a mascot change.
Like others here, Amherst's teams will always be Lord Jeffs or variations of the former unofficial mascot/label.
Like other alums, I have stopped my direct gifts to the school until the present Prez departs.
Other than that, I am cool to other posters fun with the new mascot.  I will enjoy it when the Amherst football team trample and tusk its foes on the field in the Fall!
Go Jeffs ;D
