Lumbercat....agreed with your points wrt the selection "farce"....since I was an initial poster of the rigged system that eliminated any reference to Lord Jeff.  It was PC only in that the present Prez is a very, very PC/progressive left and initiated the movement for a mascot change.
Like others here, Amherst's teams will always be Lord Jeffs or variations of the former unofficial mascot/label.
Like other alums, I have stopped my direct gifts to the school until the present Prez departs.
Other than that, I am cool to other posters fun with the new mascot.  I will enjoy it when the Amherst football team trample and tusk its foes on the field in the Fall!
Go Jeffs ;D

I acknowledge that non-Amherst folks aren't so interested in our matters, but as to the mascot name I could not agree more with what Amh63 has to say.   The process was an utter embarrassment for the institution and an abandonment of responsibility on the part of the president and the Board of Directors through the use of alleged democracy - free voting - to come up with a name.   There is virtually no institutional connection to the mascot name, despite the fact that one of these animals was housed in the geology building.   So, yes, not a happy time for Amherst alumni, especially older folks like me!

Having said that, I like the "WOLLYMOFO" name very much!

I completely get where you're coming from.  Truth be told, I have a Dartmouth Indians car decal that I have been saving for my 50th reunion.  They will likely arrest me when I show up sporting it, but it will be worth it.  Besides, I may not live that long.

You sir, are a man of impeccable style and taste.  +K and I would gladly buy you a beer at the Bates-Amherst game next fall.  If we had one, that is.  But since we are saddled with the 8 game schedule (almost as silly as the Mammoth), I will hoist you a toast in absentia.

PS: I am waiting to see what craft brewers do with the Mammoth.  I could easily go for a WOOLLYMOFO IPA, or maybe a Woolly Bully lager.  (Actually, The Woolly Bullies might be a great name for your D).

It seems like a good idea to mention that I would have no problem with someone taking WOOLLYMOFO as a moniker around these parts.

Go for it, JEFFFAN! ;D

And I concur that Woolly Bullies would be an AWESOME moniker for a defense!  (Kinda reminds me of the Purple People Eaters of the Vikings many years ago.)

Count me as another vote for Woolly Bullies. But the defense would have to be really good, otherwise it would just be a sham.  ;)

So the new mascot for Amherst is turning the pages here! :)
Wooly Bullies, a catchy tune from the 60's  is being pushed on the MBB board as a possible fight song.
Check it out posters here.
Now there is another suggestion for a " fight Expression" by an endowed Amherst professor of Greek. The long term professor discusses his suggestion based on Greek writings....found on the Amherst website.  Starts out..."Lean and mean...".  Alerted my daughter, an alum and a Classics major at Amherst.  Awaiting her opinion.

CBB recruiting evaluations taking shape-

Bowdoin A  (Wells is a young guy with a ton of energy and he has that Trinity approach....so watch out- he's not going to get outworked)
Bates B+ (Bates recruiting well with short staff and resources)
Colby incomplete- the registered recruits just don't add up. Not sure if this is indirect confirmation of the rumored coaching change or they just aren't reporting their recruits. Maybe its lame duck leadership.....rumored friction between coaches,  The assumption is that Michaeles is staying but recent resignation of AD propels the Football program into continued uncertainty.

Another note on the Mammoths deal
BDN sports is the supplier the Jeffs contracted with in their move from Nike to Under Armor. Sales guys at that firm who service a number of Athletic programs  are now trying to figure out how they will incorporate that ridiculous mascot logo to the classic Amherst athletic gear. Everyone hopes they stick with the classic Old English A on the football helmets and don't opt for the skeletal image they chose as a mascot.
Lord Jeff coaches will reject this debacle and stick with the old English A- They are still laughing in Williamstown but it should end soon.

I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.  Fleetwood Mac wrote the perfect fight song to be played by the world famous Amherst College  Marching Band at halftime (I am thinking of AUPep and his kazoos) as they form the image of an angry mastodon and charge the visitors' stands.

TUSK!

Imagine the possibilities as you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InjF8xj93LU

PolarCat...Nice!  Video has a band like the USC band.  Check out the video of the Woolly Bullies on the Nescac MBB board.  Aware that the music era is before your times, my friend...but you do have a good ear and a fertile mind ;)
Mr. Ypsi....your Purple People Eater remark pointed me to a possible " Viking" helmet design.  A helmet with tusks on the sides....one Not to be confused with the iconic ones of Middlebury or the Un. Of Mich. Too Much?
Guess, I will stick with the Classic A...but do want a jersey with the multi stripes on the sleeves.
Oh yes, got a look at a list of Amherst's incoming freshmen football student- athletes.  Lots of big linemen and defensive players and future QBs from around the US.  Is it really the Class of 2021?
They will graduate on Amherst's bicentential year.

amh63

Need to make a correction....as usual on my part.  Wooly Bully....the song has only one "l".
Also must point out that Island Time made reference to it with his lead in words on this board!

I think the AD leaving actually helps Michaeles. Nobody there to ax him. But I don't think he was getting axed either way. The entire situation is depressing from a football perspective. Great academics, but terrible football. Nothing to look forward to. I feel for the players.
