Dadof4BZ
Thanks for the heads up on Newman. Evidently changed his mind.
No worries for the Panthers- Ritter and Caputi will always find a good QB.
Interested to see where Newman lands.

Pretty sure we could find a local Lewiston kid to valet your car.  You could pick it up after the game at Fast Eddy's Chop Shop, Bait and Tatoo emporium.  Let me know if you'd like me to line that up.

Regarding Newman: a lot of times, this is due to the kid getting senioritis in high school, tanking his grades and Admissions pulling his offer.  Great business for a school like Bridgton Academy, a Maine prep school exclusively for PG kids.  Not so good for a HC who squandered a tip on the kid.  Obviously, I have no clue if this is what happened in Mr. Newman's case.  Maybe he didn't get the financial package he needed, or some other non-academic reason.

Colby- Looks like Sparacio and O'Brien are neck and neck for the QB spot while Soph Cam Drew has surprised. An interesting battle. Mules lost great receiver in Ferrell, who knows why, but a couple of guys named Snyder and Richman say bring it on! Mules staff looking for 6'7"  tackle Bradford to develop that "edge" that will elevate him to an elite OT. Blue and Grey very strong in the secondary.

Not sure who you've spoken to but Cam Drew left the team last spring. But your evaluation of  the secondary is spot on. They have some terrific players back there.

Mistake on Drew- There is a 3rd QB pushing 10 and 16. Not sure who it is.....could it be Harry Kraft?

Kraft is indeed the 3rd QB, but what I'm hearing is that he's not close to pushing the top 2.

It is my understanding Newman went to a JC somewhere, Why or where, I have no idea.

Thanks dadof4bz
makes sense- for a Cal kid that's like a New England prospect doing a PG year to get to higher level the following year.

Colby Football-To clarify the Colby QB situation they evidently have only 3 QBs in camp. If its just 2 way battle who do you hear has the edge so far?

ColbyFootball

Lumbercat - I believe you're correct. Colby is carrying only 3 QBs. A number I find pretty thin. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the status of each is with the coaches. But, we'll find out on 9/16. If you hear anything Colby related, O, D or special teams, please share. You seem to have better sources than me.

Someone on the board posted last season (I believe) about a NESCAC team taking a knee to end the game from the shotgun and how odd that was. Maryland just shocked Texas in Austin and the terps' QB took three knees to end the game-- all from the gun. Maybe the 'CAC is setting trends?

Rumor mill says Amherst's projected starting QB Reece Foy tore his left hamstring in practice running a QB read option play on Fri. Had to be carried off the field.  Hope is he "tweaked" it.... highly unlikely if he couldn't put weight on the leg post the injury. (And it's his other leg.... he's recovered/recovering from last summer 's right ACL reconstruction).

On the positive.... The Lord Jeff QB from last year, Junior Nick Morales, is supposedly having a great camp.

My SWAG is that injuries will not cause Foy to quit, but by the time he is 82 he will wish he had.

Frank U.....plus k.
From the games I caught on the tube, seems the defensive side tends to dominate during the early part of the season.  Expect this will hold true in the Nescac.
What I have gleamed from Amherst's website is that the FYs' are not in pads yet but are involved in team building events.
Bates has posted its roster for the new season!   Bates' speed and quickness is of concern to me.  The Bobcats are always a tough opponent for Amherst...to start the season.

Foy is fine. It is a pull and not a tear. Nothing serious.

Island Time... I know your kid is a soph LB.......

But my friend watched the practice.

Foy was horizontal on the ground, face down, for 5 minutes.  When he finally got up, he was unable to put pressure on his leg, was carried off the field, spent 30 mins horizontal on the trainers table, and eventually left the field via a cart.

The above description isn't that of a "pull".... it's a tear.  IMHOO.

And given the short NESCAC season, Foy will be lucky to be back by mid year.  So think, also, some of the LJ folks.........

All I know is the guy who saw Reece go down said "it's bad".......

Go LJ's.

I had a different buddy attend an Eph practice last weekend.

60 practice attendees.....  6 injured guys on the sidelines.  They've had 4 to 6 guys quit already......  Let's say the writing is on the wall that the "we will be better and won't settle for mediocrity" philosophy is rampant.

SPIRITED practice.......  lack of depth...... but organized, energetic, and good esprit de corps.

Defense looked ok...... Not large, but fast, quick, and running around.

Offense is a bunch of question marks to include QB and OL.... OL has ZERO depth... that will be the biggest Eph issue this year.

QB is the question..... Johnny Football is not in the mix... it will be either the Frosh QB from Duxbury or the returning from injury 2nd time senior... both (now soph) QB's aren't in the mix........ backups at best.

Bottom line in Billsville.... New sheriff in town... It's YEAR ONE (not 2.... this is the first recruiting class)........ and they are building for the future.

I expect that half the team's starters will be frosh nlt week 2.................

Go Ephs........

Anyone else watching Georgia Tech destroy Tennessee using the triple option?

I wish a NESCAC team would try the triple option...
