JoeBag, that's not how the story goes.  The Senior Rookie in question went to prep school with my kid, then rubbed his nose in the loss, even though my kid's a 4 year starter and this poseur has never played a down.

Sorry, while I won't name the Bant (you can figure it out on your own, or not), I will call out that type of poor sportsmanship any chance I get.  IMHO it doesn't belong in the CAC.  As I recall, you're one of the folks who felt Devanney should have taken a knee at the end rather than run up the score, so maybe you understand.

Go Bo's.
I am sorry your son had to experience that. Yes, I am still disappointed that Trin did not take a knee on the last play.

PolarCat

Wow.  First WCD agreed to go to the prom with me, now NESCACMAN and I actually agree on something.  (Though I wouldn't apply his moniker to all the Bants, it's clearly not a good look for the program).  The end of the world is truly upon us.  Next thing you know, Elizabeth Warren signs will sprout on my lawn.

JoeBag, I will PM you some additional details.

And btw, bad job by the University of Bates scoreboard operator for leaving that score up for more than a second after the final gun. -K to him...

Couldn't agree more- quick story......noticeable among the disappointment following a subsequent beating at Garcelon in the next home game against Tufts, we had a laugh. That scoreboard went dark about 5 seconds after the game ended....it actually looked like a power outage.
Not sure if it was the same scoreboard operator but they wised up. I laughed when I read your post.

The Bobcats are limping bad, but they will recover---changes looming for the Garnet.
When you are getting your ass kicked the best, and only thing to do, is shut up and work harder.
The Trinity TD pass with 5 seconds left and the Trinity guys doing the photo op with the scoreboard picture is the kind of thing you get when you get your ass kicked. The Bates program moves on- those things don't happen when you win.

We are never in a position, when we lose, to define how bad losing should be.

Following another tough loss to Williams last week we were crying in our beer but we couldn't help comparing  the way the Trinity program conducts itself with other opponents this year -- Amherst, Tufts and Williams. Much classier programs.

I don't know about Karma and all that stuff but the Bantams will get theirs at some point.

The hard part is winning and I respect the Bantams for that but why can't they win with class....that's easy!

Tell it lumbercat.  Truth bomb.  If I wasn't a lowly "Second-stringer" I'd plus that K.

Let's all be honest..... and state what we all know....

Trinity is able to recruit a different type of kid VS the rest of the whole NESCAC as they have the lowest admissions standards in the league.

They get "in" kids who even with Tips can't get into any of the other 9 schools.

Just is what it is.

And THAT is why some of the stuff you all complain about occurs.

I know I'll get lambasted for the above... but it IS the TRUTH!!!!

Polar...apparently it's a dark day in he**....as a banker, we're on the same page on Lizzie Warren too. Let's all hope she crawls back into the whole she crawled out of.

You go NFO! The truth hurts and that's the truth. Hartford State is playing by a completely different set of rules than the rest of the NESCAC (and has been for years). That makes beating them that much more satisfying. If we could give you 2 +K's for that comment, we would!

While lower admissions standsrds at Trinity is true, and a definite advantage, other school with higher standards have other advantages. If a great player who's a terrific student has a choice between Williams, Amherst or Trinity more times than not Trinity loses out. Just one example of an advantage.

In my opinion it's about coaching and program building as a coach. A great example is what Bagnoli is going at Columbia. A near impossible program to build into a success yet he's doing just that.

No doubt that picture is not becoming.  No doubt it's definitely not the best look for any program............in any sport.

But, let's be clear here... It has little to do with test scores and admissions.  Average ACT for Trinity is what?  27  Average for another NESCAC school is 28.  Williams may be the best at say 32?  I'm doubting 3 or 4 points on an ACT score is going to project kids taking tasteless pics after a game.

One of those kids pictured had a close family member that played for Amherst a couple of years ago.  All NESCAC too.

Let's just say that we have NO idea what and why these guys decided to take the pic.  We have have NO idea what made their coach throw a pass with 5 seconds to play up by 40+.   Obviously, there is something personal going on between the two programs.

Love you guys for all of your conversation but many of you have played sports or competed against someone or something in some capacity.  All it takes is one little dig .........and "game on".  This pic is tame compared to some things I've witnessed by future CEOs, Millionaires, Regional Managers, etc.

Sure, we are supposed to hope that folks will take the high road and act like Barry Sanders but...........not everyone is so classy especially if there is an unknown "story" behind the scenes.

How do we know that before the game a lot of smack talking wasn't going on back and forth?  How do we know that something wasn't said about Trinity that was really distasteful and vicious?  How do we know they weren't being called Hartford STATE all game long and the players and their Coach said, "Hartford STATE this beyotch"?

If I'm Trinity, all I have to do to get fired up for a game is to read the posts you guys provide weekly.  The condescending verbage.  The code word comments that intimate that they may not be smart enough to even attend the other 9 schools.  I would be talking more smack than LT used to if I was an opponent of Trinity.

Lol, man, you guys don't get it.  YOU are easily a key component as to why they want to not only WIN but rub it in your HOLIER than thou faces.

"Bad karma" later on in life because of a silly picture?  Please stay away from twitter.  These guys and their harmless jib and jabbing....are jocks full of testosterone and tequila (unfortunately).

Give it a break.

Beat em.  Then they won't be taking pics.

Said like a true Stater!!!

Comparing Hartford State general student body admits to other school general student body admits is not a valid argument. We are talking athletic admits here and more specifically, football admits.

As most of you know, we have connections into several of the coaches around the league. When a coach at one of the NESCAC "have's" programs tells us that they were "on" 14 of Hartford State's top recruits from this year's incoming frosh class, many of those 14 wanted to go to their school, and they could not get one single one of them into their school, that tells us something. Keep thinking that Hartford State's football admits are comparable to the rest of the NESCAC....we have a bridge to sell ya!

PolarCat

WCD, do you know the "unknown story"?  Or all just conjecture?  It seems really out of character for the Bobcats to goad them (no pink visitor locker room or the like), and clearly any Bobcat who said "We're going to kick your butts Saturday" was smoking crack.  I don't recall any cheap hits on either side, or any chants of "safety school" but I'm an old guy, often wrong but seldom in doubt.

So what do you KNOW vs, what is your wild-azz guess?

(Please don't take offense; I'm still hoping to get to third base on prom night).

You're making a lot of excuses based on supposition- I admire your open mind.
"Maybe they were doing this....or maybe somebody said that.....maybe there was a prior agenda"
Please counselor.

I was at the game an hour early.....there was no trash talking in warm ups, there were no questionable hits during the game, there were no cheap penalties and most significantly Bates hasn't beaten Trinity in more tha 30 years. Please stop trying to find a way to suggest or create circumstances that may justify the behavior of these guys based on your suppositions- sorry counselor  there was no justification for it.

First let's separate the way the Trinity Football team conducts themselves from their confirmed lenient admissions standards. I suggest that classless actions in a program are a direct reflection of coaching and specifically reflect the team culture and leadership of the head coach as opposed to lenient admissions.

Turn on the TV tomorrow and you will see schools with very marginal admission standards who conduct themselves with great class and dignity while they go undefeated. It's not directly related to admissions- there are class programs at Stanford and Harvard but there are many class programs at schools with lessser academic credentials who conduct themselves the same way. It's about coaching and the culture at the school.

The coaching and culture at Trinity evidently enables this stuff and Devanneys' quotes after the Bates game confirm that. Devanney is winning but he's taking that program in the wrong direction for the long run.

IslandTime

Trinity is a "Test Optional School". Do y'all understand what an ENORMOUS advantage that is over other schools in the NESCAC? It is THE difference.

lumbercat

Oh geez- I gotta pick my daughter up at Logan- can someone straighten out islandtime on this one.
Good games tomorrow for all!

westcoastDad

Lumbercat,

Your last comment is probably the classiest reasoning I've read in regards to this "situation".  It all boils down to the coach and/or coaches.

The admissions deal is skeptical at best.  My kid got into Amherst straight from HS.  Many on his team transferred in from prep schools.  It's an old trick that even schools like USC use for the legacy of alumni.  "Sorry Skip, your grades and scores aren't good enough.  Go elsewhere your frosh year and transfer in."  The standards are much different for transfer kids.  Coaches bring in the kids they want under that cloak. And, they get an older kid as a freshman.

Polar Cat, no sir.  I don't know what's the deal between the two programs.  Don't even care.  I'm amused that so many feelings are hurt by that picture.

I've been on this board just 4 seasons.  From the beginning I saw posts about "Hartford St".  I thought to myself, that's funny but it's also EFFED up.  And, if I were a player and read or heard my school being ridiculed........easy bulletin board material.

I'm not making ANY excuses for anyone.  I just watched unranked Syracuse knock off #2 ranked Clemson.  Last week, I watched Michigan beaten by unranked Michigan St.

Listening to you guys whine and complain about one team that for two years (2014 and 2015) did NOT win NESCAC.......and tied with 2 other NESCAC teams in 2013.........bring some cheese with the whine next time.

Trinity is winning right now.  Middlebury is looking challenging.  Last year Tufts was on the rise.  Amherst is still relevant though doesn't have the players like a McGonagle or Kelly or Fairfield etc (experienced battle tested and talented all of em) that is needed to handle stiff competition.

The picture is not good lol.  But, boys will be boys.
