Thanks for the CBB history, guys.  That's what makes this board so entertaining.  +k

You may be missing  the point on bulletin board material. If it disappears after the game begins is not the point. Bulletin board stuff can influence preparation throughout the week as you prepare for a football game.

Games aren't decided in the first 15 seconds  but are more often decided on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday as you prepare for Saturday and develop a mindset and motivation to bring to the game on Saturday.

Often "bulletin board" stuff is a great motivating tool during the week. Sometimes there is a theme to the whole week or even a whole season based on different bulletin board stuff and motivating factors.

Good coaches are all over that stuff. Whatever the fodder may be it  can often bring intensity to the practice week and preparation process which brings a team into those first 15 seconds prepared and ready to play and that kind of preparation lasts well beyon the first 15 seconds.

I'm going to stick with: It's way, way overrated, especially at the NESCAC/D3 level, where slights are uttered in a tiny vacuum. (i.e. NESCACMan calling Trinity Hartford State compels the Bantams to prepare harder). Just not buying it. In my experience, players think this stuff is ridiculous, but it gives fans -- and message board posters -- the sense that they have more influence than they do.

It doesn't work every time but teams have successfully rallied around that stuff for a long time. To be insulted or ridiculed can be a great motivating factor. Good coaches find a way to turn that into motivation for their teams.

I would agree that coaches are not above creating imaginary slights. If Trinity defeats Amherst tomorrow, perhaps Jeff Devanney will scream: ``Nobody believed in us!'' When, in fact, everybody did.

Saw the Lord Mammoths practice today.  They are loose.  They seem ready.   Fall weather is in the air.  Hopefully not windy tomorrow.  Look for a low scoring game.

We hope the only bulletin boards we are on are Trin8-0's and Bantmom's...sad if that's not the case.

WCD.....you are a "night owl". :). Guess it will be Senior Day for your son.  Enjoy the day.
At Homecoming it was not only nice to see OLD classmates...also to see their sons back for the game with their families....sharing their memories on the football field.
Had to go look on my class website for an e-mail just the other day.  Stayed on it much too long...it listed my classmates who have deceased.  I always have trouble remembering a person's name....yet when I read a deceased classmate's name, I can recall his face and some classes we shared.
Never played FY  or varsity football but a number of my Best football playing classmates suffered courses together.
Long way getting to my point.  The total experience of a Nescac school experience, especially with classmates and teammates will be cherished.
Amherst's seniors on the team will be ready.  To be put in a position to win another CAC title....yes, with a game to go...is what all the players and coaches strive for, IMO.

I have a big smile at this moment.  Amherst heads up to Willytown next week to capture a piece of the Nescac title....needing NO help from fellow Little Three school's assistance.
Amherst wins over Trinity at home 28-20!
The score was 28-13 with around 40 secs left in the game.  Trinity, with no time outs left scored to make it 28-19. The Bantams made the extra pt kick...28-20.  This is cited in that Trin's previous X-pt kick was blocked!  Trinity tried another on-side kick but was not successful in the recovery process.  With less than 20 sec left, Amherst QB took a knee...Game over.
Senior QB Foy came in for one series... near the end of the first half...with about 1min and ten sec left.  He threw for a 55 yd TD...making it 14-7, Amherst, at the half.  Key play, after Trinity had just tied the game 7-7.
In brief, two tough teams fought for 60 minutes and Amherst came out ahead...at HOME!

amh63, Amherst has Trin's number. You ought to bottle it. I'd buy some. In the last 15 years how many times has Amherst beaten Trin when Trin was favored? My guess is 4 or 5.

hamgrand

If Williams beats Amherst
And wesleyan beats Trinity
And Middlebury beats Tufts

Then 4 teams would finish with a 7-2 record and 4 way tie for the top.

Just saying ....

amh63

Hamgrand...Yelp, your math is correct.  It's your IFs' that is a stretch,IMO.

JEFFFAN

How about those Lord Jeffs!   The more physical team was supposed to be Trinity but the only reason the stats were remotely close was a fourth quarter where the Jeffs were playing to hold on and Trinity was in desperation mode.  Up until then, it was Amherst crushing the Bantams.

Playing for the title next week against Williams. Call it a tie if both Trinity and Amherst win next week but Trinity knows who the champ is ...

Nescafe

Karma Hartford State Karma   The football gods of righteousness were with the Lord-mammoths today.  The Staters can rest on their drubbing of bad teams though if any consolation.

nescac1

Ooof.  Didn't see the game but clearly a rough outing for both Maimaron and the Ephs as a whole.  I'm sure they will learn some tough lessons from this game.  Next week they will deservedly be massive underdogs and it will take a miracle to pull off the upset.  Still, to go from winless to a winning record in one season is amazing and the future continues to be bright.  Here is hoping they finish strong regardless of the ultimate score next week as they continue to build towards a return to the top of the league.  Fingers crossed Raymond brings in some beasts on both sides of the line to complement all the skill guys he brought in this year.

Damn impressive result for Amherst and even more so in light of how few seniors play a big role for them.  The Jeffs' junior class — one of the last two to benefit from monopolizing all the recruits they once split with Williams — is just loaded.

ColbyFootball

Colby us now 0-8. 89 total points on the season. Two facts. I leave the analysis to others.
