2014 was not that far away... Seem to recall some pictures from Wesleyan's locker room where they were trashing Trin on the white board after a victory against the Bants :o

I tried to find the picture of the chalkboard message left by Wesleyan but couldn't track it down. If memory serves the message said something to the effect of "6-2 You F*#$ing Losers!".
That actually took place following the 2013 game in Hartford when the Bantams throttled a previously undefeated Wes team 40-10. The last time Trinity lost at home to the Cardinals was 1998.

Yes, it was ironic that the Wesleyan players, who had just been TRAMPLED by TRINITY, were calling the Bantams F$%^&ng Losers.  Ummm if they are losers, and they just quadrupled your score, what exactly does that make you?  haha  Silly boys didn't make the connection- I guess that's why they didn't get into Trinity!   ...not smaht enough...

On this Veteran's Day, a sincere "Thank You!" to all who served.

I hope other CAC schools did a better job saluting veterans today than Bates did.  Their Instagram post (showing a grand total of 10 or 11 members of the community at the remembrance) was pretty embarrassing.

We now return you to our regularly-scheduled Bants bashing.

As an aside, we find it refreshing that what has brought this entire board together (well except for our "friends" from Hartford State), is EVERYONE'S unwavering hatred of that Team from Hartford.

I think this is a bit of a stretch. Maybe I'm mistaken, but my impression is that most of the adults who frequently post here have a begrudging respect for Trinity and recognize that they've been the best program in the NESCAC over the past 15 years (with Amherst a close second). Do you know why nobody hates Wesleyan? It's because they're irrelevant.

You can make all the claims you'd like, but I'm convinced I have you pegged as a former mediocre high school athlete who was rejected by Williams, thus your unhealthy obsession with Kelton. Now you're a jock-sniffer who pals around with actual athletes on the Wes football team. Your bias toward the Cards (and against pretty much anyone else) is undeniable. I don't doubt you have friends at a few other NESCAC schools who you talk to about the league, but claiming that is a "network of sources" is laughable.

Soon enough you'll graduate and we won't hear from you again, aside from an annual update on Aaron Kelton of course. I, for one, won't miss you.

I am looking forward to Trinity Homecoming tomorrow. It's supposed to be chilly with some windy which could have a huge impact as Piccirillo has more pass attempts than anyone in the NESCAC and Puzzo may have to put the ball in the air often as the Wes rushing defense ranks below only Amherst and Trin in that category.

Getting Chipouras involved early and limiting big plays to Breuler will be key for Trinity. It should be a great game! I'm hopeful but not optimistic about Williams' chances against Amherst but I'll be checking the score often. GO BANTS! GO EPHS (shudders)!

Fortunately or unfortunately we are stuck "Jersey Boy Dave" aka "Nescacman" for the next several years. He is a Wes football alum who is clearly disappointed that his beloved Card's have had such a difficult time competing against the big dogs.

Our band of imaginary friends and correspondents have been in contact with his imaginary band of correspondents. Even though his imaginary friends were sworn to secrecy, we were able to "out" him by offering them a couple of boxes of donuts!

On a somewhat related note Trinity shared this article on their facebook page today which highlights a scholarship created for a former Trinity football player, Michael P. Getlin '62:

I think everyone accepts your poison pen approach at this point and don't take it all too seriously.
The Hartford State nickname has stirred some controversy and that is understandable as you are relentless with it. That agenda has become your signature but it certainly adds color to the board. Let me say I appreciate the time and effort you put into your coverage. It really makes this board and I always enjoy reading your posts.

As for your gritty, honest reporting style it reminds of the late Howard Cosel who always pledged to "tell it like it is". I dub you "Howard" for that reason, seems an appropriate nickname as you seem to reflect Cosell's approach to athletics. Also, by referring to you as Howard all of those on the board will avert the sometime confusion between you and NESCAC1 based on the similarity or your posting names.

Very interesting rumor about Gilmore. Can Colby afford him?

Regarding Bates QB Costa. He has very strong arm (HS Javelin champ) and throws extremely wall on
the run and very well going to his left.
Costa is not the issue in the Bates passing game, the problem is lack of a playmaker at the WR position. Bobcat WRs are sure handed but on the slow side and have difficulty getting separation. Costa will be an all conference QB if they can protect him and get a playmaker or 2 at WR. He needs a little work on accuracy but beleive me he can throw the ball.

Lumber, after consulting with our colleagues, we wholeheartedly accept your comparison to the late, great Howard Co-sell and are honored to be mentioned in the same breath as he. Much appreciated and honored. He was a hero to us. Thank you as well for your kind words and good luck this week as your 'Cats try to finish the year on a 3-0 run.

As an aside, we find it refreshing that what has brought this entire board together (well except for our "friends" from Hartford State), is EVERYONE'S unwavering hatred of that Team from Hartford. We find it interesting that their supporters have completely gone radio salient now that they are proven to be mere mortals, rather than some super-human Team comprised of a bunch of "Khan"-like players ("Trekkies" get the analogy). Wouldn't it be nice if they finished 2017 on a 2 game slide and Picirrilo, Breuler, Morris, Kaminski and Co. were able to take a nice scoreboard pic from the "Coop" post-game...we can only dream...

Picks due out later today...we promise some surprises for our first ever Week 9 picks!

Thanks Howard

Hoping to see your picks.... why not break your phony streak of winning picks and actually pick the games against the spread this week instead of just picking the winner-

Here are the spreads- post your picks:

Amherst -12
Trinity -9
Tufts -3
Hamilton -3
Bowdon -4

Pick em Vegas style Howard. Anybody can pick a straight winner especially in the NESCAC.

Former Bant Ben Rosenberg is having a rough night tonight, kicking for Brown in their game against Dartmouth at Fenway Park.  Midway through the 3rd quarter, he is 1 for 3 on FG's.  Not that it matters much: Dartmouth is killing Brown 30-3.

Brown is pretty awful.  They may actually be a team that Colby could beat.

2017 Week #9 NESCACMAN Preview

Welcome to our first Week 9 preview ever in the NESCAC..."the league where they pay to play". Last week we went 3-2, we are 33-7 for the season (our best 40 game record ever) and are 157-43 for our career. Week 9 features the NESCAC GOTW: Wesleyan vs. Hartford State in the annual "Battle of the Birds".

University of Bates (Lewiston Campus) at Hamilton College: Very evenly matched teams on paper, however, both teams get it done differently offensively. The Conts go with a much more "traditional" pistol based offense and get much of their offense through the air. The Bobcats on the other hand are run first, pass second. In fact, Bates leads the NESCAC in rushing averaging almost 211 yards on the ground per game. Both Teams have young dynamic QBs which should make this much more fun (and cold) than the records would seem to indicate. Defensively, neither Team is very good. Bates has already locked up the C-B-B title and has won 2 in a row. We are going to go with the home team in this one in a close one.

Hamilton 27 University of Bates 24
Weather: Sunny and cold. High around 34.

Amhurst College at Williams College: Everything on the line for the Lord Mammoths. A win guarantees NESCAC supremacy and a Little 3 Title. A loss and they could potentially be NESCAC runner-ups. As much as we would like to see a good, close game, we think Williams is just a little too young and beat-up to give the LMs a game.

Amhurst 28 Williams 14
Weather: Sunny and Cold. High around 35.

Colby College at Bowdoin College: Someone has to win their first game...we're going with the home Team in a close one.

Bowdoin 24 Colby 21
Weather: Sunny and cold. High around 38.

Middlebury College at Tufts University: Should be another really good game. If Lebo plays for the Pants, we think that will be the difference. MID still has a chance to win the league if things break right for them.

Middlebury 31 Tufts 24
Weather: Sunny and cold. High around 38.

NESCAC Game of the Week

Wesleyan University at Hartford State: Wesleyan played their best game of the year last week after getting many of the walking wounded back. Meanwhile, Hartford State lost their first game of the year. We think Wes builds on the momentum of last week and shocks the Bants in the Coop for their first win at State since 1998.

Wesleyan 28 Hartford State 24
Weather: Sunny and cold. High around 40.

NESCACMAN's Picks
2017 Season: 33-7
2016 Season: 32-8
2015 Season: 30-10
2014 Season: 30-10
2013 Season: 32-8
Career: 157-43 (.785 winning percentage)

Happy Veterans Day. Thank you to all that have served. "All gave some... some gave all"

Cannot help but to think of Middlebury Grad John P. Stabile. A former Midd football standout who then joined the Marines in WWII. He paid the ultimate sacrifice while saving his fellow injured Marine. A statue was dedicated to him in his hometown of Medford, MA. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Another Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient is Pat Tillman. Unfortunately, Tillman was killed by friendly fire. Here is a little write up on Tillman based on the book Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer.

I will join others here to honor the veterans who served.   My classmates who did not retur from Vietnam.  My older brother who did after Harvard.  And those who were resettled in Western Ma. And elsewhere after serving with our troops in Vietnam.
PolarCat...Brown remains the only Ivy team that has NO wins?  What a year in the Ivies....Cornell and Columbia rising up and the Big Three ompeting OK.  What did the Big Green do against Harvard this season?
For those who follow the predictions.....compare the Nescacman picks with NBN.
Again, enjoy the games today!

JEFFFAN

I remember my father (Amherst 44) describing what it was like to wake up on Sunday morning to the news of Pearl Harbor.   He said that by Monday morning half the campus had left to enroll.   Likely the same on every campus in America.   Prayers for the vets.

nescac1

Oof.  Williams was up 24-3 in the third seemed (based on starts) to be in total control.  Huge Amherst comeback capped by a pick six, and now it's all square.  Let's see if the Ephs can regroup!

nescac1

Williams-Amherst headed to OT.  Sounds like a wild one.

nescac1

Ahhhhhh!   Ephs win in OT.  Stopped Amherst on 4th and 1.  Maimaron four TDs rushing.  Legendary.  Go Ephs!!!

nescac1

Kills me that no live video of that game. All things considered — massive underdog, OT, six game losing streak vs Amherst, denying Amherst the league title, earning the right to walk for the first time in years — as big an Eph as any I can recall.  Can't wait to hear more from folks who were there!!!   Yahoo!
