It's not ridiculous, it's a fact.  This is one of the only consistent sources of information regarding NESCAC football.   Parents and prospective student athletes of any NESCAC school devour any information available when considering their options... this board is visited early and often.

What's ridiculous is to think this board doesn't have influence.
Okay, if you say so. You are dealing with some of the elite academic schools in the Country, and comments on this Board are the deciding factors. And when it gets more specific, claiming multiple recruits decided against a particular school, as suggested with Colby, you are giving this Board far too much credit. This is a nice fun entertaining, and at time informative, site. But, anyone who reads this stuff and makes a major college decision because of postings has lost his or her mind.

I personally know 2 young men who ruled out Colby because of the turmoil in Waterville as portrayed on this board.

I am very friendly with one of the boys parents (golf friend) who I referred to this board when the boy was a junior. The kid met the Colby coaches at the NE Elite clinic at Bentley last summer and was very impressed by Colby and specifically one of their Coordinators. My friend was following the board. I saw him around Christmas and asked how his son was doing with the recruiting process. He indicated that they ruled out Colby because they just couldn't be comfortable with all the negativity they were hearing about the Colby program. He specifically referred to the posts on the NESCAC board and cited the "hatred of Micheales" and all the discourse about inept coordinators etc etc. He said they decided to "move on from Colby". A few weeks later he solidified his decision when his boy was still uncommitted after reading a post about the mishandled Mule breakup dinner......on further review it was your post Mr Colby Football.

The other boy who was considering Colby is a classmate of the aforementioned prospect. This boy visited Colby for a game in October with his Dad who also followed the board. They loved the school but after digging deeper in following the NESCAC blog they had doubts.

"It's really a mess up there" he told me. We just can't take a chance on Colby with all that stuff flying around. ***** has a lot of of other schools interested.

The first kid depicted here has decided on Union. The other guy is deciding between Bowdoin, Middlebury and Hamilton.

You have done nothing but bring harm to Colby Football. Step away. They are moving in a positive direction. Your "work" is done.

I've told kids that I coach about things that you have said.  Not sure if it has influenced them but they are not going to Colby.

The article brought me to tears. It should provide a much needed dose of perspective to all of us. May God Bless and comfort that young man's family, and may he R.I.P.

I have always been a big supporter of Colby, and that will continue. You can blame me all you want, that's fine. I guess you blame me for the revolving door of assistants under Michaeles, as well.  Maybe his horrible record as a coach has something to do with it. Michaeles was the problem up at Colby. But blame me all you want. The guys who bashed Bates and Bowdoin on this Board in various ways drove recruits away from those schools? And the trashing of Kelton for years drove recruits from Williams? Kids have a chance to attend a world class school at Colby, and you blame me for their decision not to attend. I have to laugh.

And did you know Michaeles is still around? I guess his wife is still employed there because he hangs around campus using the athletic facilities, talking to students about his "depressing" situation. Making students feel uncomfortable, still. Is this normal for a grown man? But, you blame me. I also guess you had no idea the recruiting assistance I provided. BTW, where did these two prospects you knew from the same school end up going to college?

Hi All,

I am new to this blog and have read it with great interest.  My son will play for the Ephs in the fall.   I saw the recent news that Maud Mandel will be the new President of Williams.  I think/hope that she will not hold back Ephs football.  My greatest concern is that she is coming from Brown, the perennial cellar dweller in the Ivy.  Brown's facilities were so bad(among other factors), that my son decided not consider it in the football recruiting process.  The above said, she got her Master's and PhD at Michigan, so I have to think she understands at least something about how successful football creates community(and loyal, financially-supportive alumni).

Another word on Bowdoin recruiting, which was a hot topic in this forum a couple of months ago.  I strongly encouraged my son to consider Bowdoin(a great school)  and he was in communication with a recruiter there, but my take is that Bowdoin just did not recruit hard enough.  My son's grades were very good and his board scores were above the average of all of the NESCACs so I do not think academics had anything to do with it.  I think he would have committed to Williams anyway, but Bowdoin never really pushed it, so we did not visit the campus.

My son had almost the same experience with Bowdoin!!

Lumbercat,

Went to UNE. It was a tough decision being from Seattle, but the coaches answered every question
with straight forward answers..I don't believe any school has everything, but it was the best for him.
I would feel comfortable recommending it to anyone.
Best of luck to you and your son.

Meadowdale-
Good for you and your son. Thats a new program which brings a lot of excitement. I have a summer place near Biddeford so I will get over to see the Noreasters.
Best of luck, enjoy the south Maine coast. Hope you like Lobster.

The current dialog is indicative of the off the season environment in NESCAC football- will post some recruiting results soon that may help to lessen the winter radio silence on CAC football.

Hey lumbercat...  did I miss your recruiting results?  You always seem to have the inside scoop on the Maine schools...

NESCAC 1

Yes- JBW must be thrilled. Thats a big time HS program. I've only seen his HUDL film so the jury is still out but my guess coming from that program is the boy is a keeper.  JBW may him have him penciled in as a starter from day one.

Very few Ohio kids historically in the NESCAC- especially on the OL.

This is a feather in the cap of Bowdoin Football recruiting to bring in a kid from a top Ohio program. If the prospect disappoints we will know he was a guy who chose Bowdoin as a final option but at this point Wells and his staff look good.
