It is cute coming over to this board sometimes to watch Tad and Biffy attack the non-lobster pants folks who don't attend NESCAC schools. PolarCat's comment "That guy from Mount Union and the Ypsi fellow find joy in ruffling feathers.  It's all good, and he who laughs last, yada, yada.  Their kids will likely be working for your kid some day, so don't take the bait." is such a moronic, twisted, sophomoric statement, it's laughable. If you don't think that there are wildly successful people from schools all over this country, you're insane. If you don't think that there are those who chose a path to serve others vs. fighting their way up the corporate ladder to achieve false trophies (homes, fancy cars, etc.), you're sad. I didn't go to a NESCAC school, I went to Swarthmore. You've probably never heard of it, but it's a decent little school. I've been managing money for high net worth people for almost 20 years (after a stint at PepsiCo and Kraft). AUM (assets under management) approaching $430 million dollars. Average account size = $2.37 million dollars. Not one NESCAC client. Only one Ivy League client. Only one client who inherited their money. My #1 client? A graduate of East Stroudsburg State University (PA state school). My #2 client? Holy Family University in Philadelphia. #3? Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia College of textiles & Sciences). And on and on and on.

That whole narrative, "the kids will likely be working for your kids someday" is such bullzhit!! Unless you own the company, you will be working for somebody. Even the damn CEO reports to the board. So please stop that tired, false way of thinking. It's lazy, weak and incorrect. Who gives a zhit who works for whom!!! Rant over..................

As the father of 2 nescac kids, I love your post. I've always tried to teach my kids humility. Too many of the nescac posters think who they are. All they really do is highlight how small they really are. Good for you sticking it to them.

I'm almost certain I'm "that guy from Mount Union" mentioned earlier. You both had great posts. I agree 100%. I could add more but you covered the subject very well.
And life goes on! ☠🏈😀

And a +k to you both. Thanks!

Let me apologize for my post last week and some of my comments that went way to far.  I realize that there is pretty good talent in all D3 leagues and my comments inferring that the talent comparison was not close, and the Best 11 vs 11 remark were way overboard.  I am certain there are many very talented players throughout the other D3 leagues.  I do not speak for other NESCAC posters so it is all on me.  I was reacting in frustration to comments from Non-NESCAC posters a few pages back (and made often in the past) regarding the NESCAC having less talent and not being competitive because they did not participate in playoffs.  I should have counted to 10, and I apologize if I offended anyone.

I will stand by some of my personal observations comparing the other D3 teams I saw (only) vs the NESCAC.

The 2016 Alfred team appeared as good as any NESCAC team I have seen and their successful 12 - 1 season would seem to support this.

With regard to QB play, the RPI QB in 2015 was pretty good and Tyler Johnson was very good.  I saw him play in HS and in 2016 against RPI.   But I do think the NESCAC has attracted some pretty good QB talent  especially compared to the other D3 teams I have personally observed.

Yes, I saw Hudson Valley in a scrimmage in 2015.  At that time it was my first non-nescac D3 action observed in a few years.  HV did not put their best foot forward and RPI dominated them in every aspect.

I haven't seen all the D3 schools in action, but I do believe that the top NESCAC teams would have competed well with the teams I did observe over the last 3 years.  And IMO the fact that the NESCAC teams do not go to playoffs does not impact the talent or competitive brand of football they play.

And finally, with regard to kickers, Franks was obviously very good and the current kicker at RPI is very good too.  Appears better than any I have seen in the NESCAC.

Again, I apologize for any comments that went overboard in my prior post.

Hamgrand,
Apologies accepted and appreciated. Good luck to the NESCAC this season. You have a great league  and a great platform for student athletes which is what D3 is all about, so let's leave it at that. I have noticed, however, that statistically the NESCAC boards are high in giving out negative karma ......hmmm, won't play with others in D3 and a high percentage of friendly fire.....an interesting profile ....oops, before I pick up some -k I better jump off.... ;)

Thanks Grid
Thats a small recruiting class, smaller than last year, or for that matter the smallest in years up in Waterville.
The Colby negativity on this website and elsewhere in NESCAC circles made it difficult for Cosgrove to come in late and recruit successfully.
Results will be different next year, Cosgrove will turn it around. Despite some early impediments I anticipate a significantly improved Mules team this year.

You know little of the ins and out of the Colby program, including what went on, and what's going on now.

What went on was your relentless hate campaign on this board against the Head Coach and other aspects of the program.  High School kids, parents etc read this negativity about Colby football. The immense wave of negativity contributed significantly to an off recruiting year.

You have zero first hand knowledge of me or the Colby program, relying on rumors and second hand information.  And with all of the on and off the field negativity generated by the previous HC, and his total failure in both wins and losses and production, you claim to have the inside recruiting scoop that I caused it.   I guess I caused the exodus of quality productive players from the team, as well. And, I guess I caused the total lack of offensive production year after year under the previous HC. And let's not forget that the recruiting coordinator left abruptly the day before the 2016 award luncheon, without any explanation to this day, so you can pin that on me too I guess.  You have the nerve to place the  program's recruiting failures at my feet. I've tried to take a positive approach to Colby football since the HC left (although he hasn't left believe it or not), but I'm tired of having guys like you go after me when you don't know me at all.

Boy, some really negative posts here in the " off season" .  How about more football related ones?
Most confusing one is the one from the Swarthmore alum.  Fine school that has NO football team.  Remember when the high academic institution dropped it...around the time when an Amherst athletic dept person became the AD at Swarthmore.  Number of classmates live in the area and some even taught there, etc., etc.  Have great soccer and basketball teams...especially this year in MBB.  Anyway, how does a non football school alum find his way to a football board....assume it is a a male poster?  Would be more interesting to hear his/her take on why Swarthmore dropped football.  Could not be about money?  Big endownment school. Believe the whole campus is labeled a horticulture national treasure of sorts.
Anyway, still a big blackout wrt Amherst's incoming players.

Anyway, still a big blackout wrt Amherst's incoming players.

It looks like Amherst announced their incoming class of 27 commits last year via twitter between May 15-19, so I would expect something similar in the next few weeks.

With the reemergence of the football program at Williams it will be interesting to see if the Ephs start winning some the recruiting battles with the Mammoths. Given the natural overlap in their applicant pools I won't be surprised if Amherst takes a slight step back in the coming years as Williams makes their way back toward the top of the NESCAC.

Of the commitments Trinity announced I'm most excited to see Brian Casagrande, LB, 6'2", 225 lbs from Hand High School in Madison, CT (Defensive player of the year in CT), and Spencer Lockwood, RB, 5'11", 205 lbs from Killingly, CT (Gatorade Player of the year in CT), and of course Jordan Vazzano, QB 6'4", 240 lbs from St. Joe's in Trumbull, CT who transferred from URI.

I've also been told to keep an eye on these future Bants:
Riley Holland, OT, 6'3, 285 lbs from Whitman, MA
Tijani Harris, RB 5'11, 210 lbs from Mercersburg Academy, PA
DeVante Reid WR, 5'11, 185 lbs from Worcester Academy Prep, MA

Finally I've heard that, in addition to the usual NESCAC powers, Hamilton and Bowdoin did well this recruiting cycle. Time will tell!
NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

I agree. I will do whatever I can to keep the dialog positive. Football is a great thing for all ages, and should be fun.

I get all of the postings from Hamilton, and the recruits have looked impressive. I hope they turn out to be the real deal. I do believe HC Murray "gets it", and will continue to move the program in the right direction. And, he seems like a nice guy.

Trin8-0...thanks for the info.  Interesting dates for the announcements as that is the time period for Amherst's graduation...early this year.  Memorial weekend is the more traditional time for Amherst's graduation...as a recall from my three kids's Graduations.  Seems My Reunion will be around that weekend.  Will have my three kids and their families at Amherst for my last formal reunion.
Anyway, I digressed angain.  Seems Trinity " recruited" all the top players from Ct :).  Therefore will not expect any Ct. players on the Amherst's list.
With respect to Hamilton's HC.  He grew up in the region..family, etc. Coached in NY. Has one child at Cornell Un.  Expect he knows where to go recruiting and has many HS contacts in NY state.
Oh yes, an earlier discussion on this board dwelled on Nescac alums in the NFL.  Amherst has had a number....one that played as the starting OLB on the undefeated Miami Super Bowl team...soon left to go to medical school and may still be a surgeon in practice.

Linebacker is Doug Swift and I believe he practiced in the Philadelphia area.  Jean Fugett and Freddie Scott are also from the era, as we have discussed on this board.  All three were fantastic college football players for Amherst.  I still remember a show Freddie Scott put on that, even as an opponent, I had to admire.

You can find a complete list of the Hamilton recruits on twitter at @HamCollFootball. There is a post for each new player, with a nice video clip of each. Three QBs in Hamilton's class of 2022 . .

And just moment ago, Amherst started postings its class of 2022 on twitter at @AmherstCollFB (just one player as of 6:35 pm but presumably more to come).

Quicksilver...thanks for the info ;). Plus k
I decided that I will wait for the Fall to see who arrives, etc.  will be a quieter Summer.  I am immersed in the Spring sports now and awaiting all the events with my family and friends this Summer.

BREAKING NEWS:  BILLY FOOTBALL NOT RETURNING TO BARSTOOL FOR THE SUMMER
https://twitter.com/hen_ease/status/994959671055323136?s=21
Seems odd that the Williams coaches would pressure Billy to get a different summer job.  I'm sure he does want to train more if he's going to see time at WR in the fall but that's a huge spotlight and potential career to give up.  Just look at the disappointed people replying to the tweet.  It's a national tragedy.
