That's a pretty bold accusation. Do you have any evidence that the Trinity admissions office is intentionally circumnavigating NESCAC rules? Or just more sour grapes from Lewiston?

NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

Different admissions standards at Trinity- well known.

You didn't say anything about admissions standards. You said that "Trinity finds a way to let in football players" and that "Devanney has everyone sold in Hartford on giving him the latitude to bring in players."

Does Trinity, which is still ranked as one of the most selective schools in the country, have slightly lower admission standards than some other NESCAC schools? Yes.

Are they, as you implied, manipulating admissions to allow additional TIPS for players who don't qualify? No.

Sour, sour grapes.

Wait, where was the accusation?  Every year Devanney has more FY players - both recruits and walk-ons - than any other NESCAC school.  That's not open to conjecture, it's an established fact.  And every one of those potential FY FB players was approved by Admissions.

LC just stated the well-established fact that there are more FB players admitted in Hartford than anywhere else.  (Some of them go on to make the team as an upperclassman, and pose under scoreboards).  Are you claiming that is incorrect?

PS: I, too, like the GIF.  For some reason, it makes me think of how Bill must react every time Hillary gets nekkid.

I can think of a couple of other, totally legitimate, reasons why Trinity admits more FB players:

  • Winning tradition.  In a high schooler's mind, there may well be more cachet in playing for the Bants than for one of the Maine schools
  • Urban location.  I know that both Bates and Bowdoin have some difficulty luring kids from an inner city background to "the sticks" as WCD likes to say.  I assume the same is true for Colby, Midd and Hamilton.  Trinity's unique location may feel more welcoming to inner city kids. So an inner city kid who could get into multiple schools may apply ED1 to Trinity just because it feels more like home.  (True story.  My son is working for a financial services firm in Boston.  One of his team members is an African American woman who attended a Midwestern liberal arts college as part of their "College Cohort" program, where a group of students from the same inner city neighborhood is admitted together.  The College Cohort kids report higher satisfaction, do better academically, and have a lower drop-out rate than other inner city kids, so there is something to be said for your school being a comfortable, familiar environment).
  • Banding.  Trin 8-0 notes that Trinity's admissions standards are slightly less rigorous than NESCAC peers.  So the kid who would be a B Band at Amherst, Williams, Midd or Bowdoin may be an A Band at Trinity, and the coaches may not need to spend a Tip on him.  While the star wide out who would be an (un-Admittable)  C Band at other NESCAC schools may be a B Band atTrinity.  The coaches may be able to get him in with a tip (maybe the Tip they didn't need to use on the other kid), when none of the other NESCAC programs could.

Nothing illegal or underhanded here, and nothing wrong with exploiting the rules to your own advantage.

Just facts- manipulation is your word.....a little paranoia there. Sorry to nick that nerve.

I give Trinity credit for their winning tradition, go back and look.
Just portraying it for what it is. You'll probably win it again this year- relax, don't get bent out of shape, your'e on top.

Hamiltonian

winners should win with grace, and ignore the brickbats from those who don't make it - whether the complaints are legitimate or not.  losers get to complain.  winners get to rise above it.

Tough news out of Waterville. One of their best LBers, Sebastien Philemon, out 4-6 weeks with a badly sprained ankle. Terrific player and great kid. He's also a captain. I feel sorry for the young man, and the team.

Play Trinity or don't, but stop the complaining.

You're wasting your breath. Half the posters on here are cry baby keyboard warriors. I can make a list of advantages Trinity has in the recruiting process, and I can make an equally compelling list for Williams, Amherst and the other nescac teams. Every team brings something special to the table that can be sold to 25-30 kids per year. The bottom line is that Trinity gets it done recruiting and on the field.

It's September and the weather here in Md is nice football weather...well almost.
Anyway, first games start two Saturdays from today....hope I got that right.  Other Fall sports...soccer/futbal start this coming week.  Hope I spelled the term some purist on another board use, correct.  Will be able to check out the new Amherst sports network soon.  Appears that Amherst has hired a slew of coaches and/or promoted a bunch in the Fall sports.  Early "thinkers" have rated Amherst's other Fall sports teams high.  Will know shortly after the first few matches.
I posted earlier that Amherst has just launched another major money campaign.  It is smart to raise money when the school's sports teams are highly rated and can be seen on a new broadcast network....ok, NSN is still being used and it maybe a "Copy" of the Tufts network.  New Admission Dean from MIT and sports news director from Tufts.
Wow....this post sounds like the ones seen on the Colby, Bowdoin and Bates websites.  Wife thinks I am spending too much time on the Nescac webs :'(.    Better than the National News networks ;D

Word out of Waterville is that QB Harry Kraft (Robert Kraft's grandson) has left Colby and returned to Dartmouth. The Colby roster has them carrying 3 QBs this season. One is a freshman with a big arm, but he's listed as 5' 10" 165 lbs. I can't wait to start watching some games.

Word out of Waterville is that the intensity level is very high. That is great news.
