Almost overlooked it but before I stop laughing thanks to Colby Football for intervening as the arbiter here. Priceless- a neutral guy with no bias. You are the best.

I'm here to be a calming influence on this otherwise hostile Board. And I just knew it would be well received by you. I can now sleep well tonight. lol

Well,  football weather and Football games are everywhere it seems.  Cannot decide whether to build an Ark in Md or just sit back and watch some football games. Heard the local HS band practicing the other night in the drizzle...yes, HS football is starting.  Remember when my kids were in HS and I would walk over to catch a few Friday night games....bands, cheerleaders, etc.  Also went when they were out of college.  Too bad that only Williams has a sort of band play at home games..a marching one at that :).  Amherst have hired high school bands to play in the past.  Does any other Nescac schools offer student performed music at games in this modern football era filled with political overtones?
Today's WSJ has a positive football story.  There is a blind football player playing at USC!  Good for WCD's college.  The player is a long snapper for extra points and has for the 2nd season got into games.  Leave the other positive points in this D1 happy story to others.  Ironic that WCD claimed that football kickers were not football players :).  Just pulling WCD's leg here.
Heard from my daughter today.  Seems my former HS football player son in law will be taking my grandchild to the local HS game this Friday night.  Yes time flies and my grand daughter is entering upper school.  My son in law  sits on the opponent side at Amherst's homecoming games...50 yard line.  He does get stares from some Williams fans at times...not so much from Cardinal faithfuls.
First games this Saturday!  Rosters and coaches' team assessments will be out soon :)

As, he was just trying to find a friend on this board.  Cut the poor guy some slack.

Or maybe the most acid tongued coach hater in recent history really has found Jesus.  Time will tell.  If he can make it through the season without attacking JM, maybe he really has changed.

Polarcat, in my opinion, has serious issues. I think I know what his major problem is, but I will keep that to myself. I'm not here to make a friend, nor to find Jesus, as he suggests. I'm fine on both counts. And I'm done with Michaeles, unless current events warrant reference to him. Then I will not hesitate to mention him. Having said this, I hope we can get back to football.

There is no more important adjunct to football than tailgating.  And Bates has a "new" tailgating policy.  Though the only significant change I can spot is that early arrivals are no longer permitted to stake out spots for their late-arriving friends, a practice that really got out of control in the past.  Alas, the Bobcat fans are still stuck with the postage-stamp-sized parcel across from the field, so over-crowding will still be an issue.

Oh, and no corn hole or bottled beer.  http://www.bates.edu/security/policies/httpwww-bates-edusecurityfiles201809bates-athletics-tailgating-policy-pdf/

Let the grillin' begin!

Since amh63 neglected to inform everybody, please note that Williams again ranked #1 among liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report for 16th consecutive year, having also won 21 of 23 Directors' Cups, including the past 13 in a row.

Other NESCAC schools show up well in both assessments, each of which have modified and expanded their evaluation criteria recently.

Will post on football, tailgating and booze policy at games,etc...as needed later.  I wish to pause now since it is 9/11.
On 9/10, I had dinner with my older brother who was in town.  My older brother who was in ROTC at Harvard and served in the army at Redstone arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.  He became the Chief Scientist at the Army Missile R&D Org in Huntsville.  My brother was up for a tri service mtg in Crystal City Va. near Regan Airport and the Pentagon.  Ironically, it was at my old office building in Crystal City.  After one of the planes hit the Pentagon, my brother tried to return home.  He finally had to drive his rental car home to Alabama.  My brother and I are both retired from the DOD now.  We both were aware of each other's business but never talked about our work.  We talked about football, our kids, etc. and our former hippie younger brother...PhD from UC-Berkeley...family.  I wish to pause for Amherst and other Nescac alums who died on 9/11 in the twin tower disaster...I wish to pause for classmates who did not return from the Vietnam War.  Thank You all for letting me post here.

Thank you for pausing in observance of 9/11. I have closed my office every 9/11 since 2001, and text my boys every 9/11. My very small way of making sure people remember. And thanks to you and you brother for your service to our Country.
May God Bless America, and keep Her safe today and always.

Trin9-0

I was a sophomore at Trinity on September 11, 2001. We practiced that day and everything was a blur. I do recall that it was a particularly poor practice yet the coaches didn't seem to mind. Everyone's thoughts were elsewhere.

On a lighter note, last night I attended the 30th annual Wesleyan Football Kickoff Reception at the Yale Club in NYC. There was a strong showing of alumni, both current and past Wes parents and the there were remarks from both Mike Whalen and Dan DiCenzo. I came away even more confident in the Cardinals prospects for this season. There are 17 seniors on the roster and while most, if not all, will be significant contributors the strongest positions seem to be up front with talent all across both the offensive and defensive lines. The Cards will need play-makers to step up at both RB and WR but with Piccarillo directing the offense there should be ample opportunity to make plays in space.

I found it interesting that the boys over at nothingbutnescac.com are projecting a 6-3 finish for the Bantams. Yes, there were several star players lost to graduation highlighted by Puzzo, but Trinity has lost more than two games just once in the past 15 years. Trin returns 15 starters from last year's championship squad and while the QB competition may not be settled, the most difficult stretch of the season isn't until weeks 7-9 so there is time for the offense to gel. Finally, when you consider that Tufts, Amherst, and Middlebury all travel to The Coop it's hard to imagine any scenario where the Bants lose more than two games this year, but I suppose time will tell.
NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

Don't forget that 14 out of the past 15 years the nescac had only 8 games, increasing to 9 last year. That additional game may change the results. Unless of course, Trinity continues to be a dominant team. Then the nescac can add 2-3 more games and they still won't lose 3. What I'm looking for this year is Colby shocking them opening day. It can happen. Anyone watching last night's Jets game last night can attest that football can be surreal. Maybe the Mules will treat me to a 2nd surreal experience within a week.

NESCAC just announced an experimental kickoff rule in addition to the rules enacted by the NCAA earlier. All NESCAC kickoffs will be from the 40 yard line instead of the current 35 yard line. It's their hope that it will increase touchbacks and therefore reduce injuries.

Loved watching the J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS play so well last night!
Good for the AFC East.

Trin is going to be challenged this Saturday.  It is hard for a team to prepare new coaching staff they have no film on.

Trin8-0...... do not be concerned with NBN. They do their best, but listed 2 kids as starters that are no longer on the team. Pretty sure they 'winged' this analysis.

When was the last time any Maine college defeated Trin at home or away?

Don't get too excited about the Jets. My dad used to say, "it doesn't count as a highlight if the play happens in a game against the Lions". Hold your enthusiasm until NYJ plays a pro team.
And yes, I am a lifelong Lions fan.
