When was the last time any Maine college defeated Trin at home or away?
I doubt it was within the past 5-10 years. But, if you can't think big in your opener where every team is tied for first beginning the day, when can you? I say Colby should play loose because nobody expects them to win, or even gives them any chance (except me - lol). They're playing with "house money", so go out there and be aggressive and if you have to go down, go down in flames. No a single Colby player should be afraid to make a big play. Winning starts with believing you can win.

Great question, Frank. Since Colby and Bates used to rotate and not play Trinity each year, there were fewer matchups. However, I know none of the three Maine teams have beaten Trinity since sometime prior to the year 2000.

Don't get too excited about the Jets. My dad used to say, "it doesn't count as a highlight if the play happens in a game against the Lions". Hold your enthusiasm until NYJ plays a pro team.
And yes, I am a lifelong Lions fan.
I am a long suffering Jets fan (Namath and the '69 Champs), so I try not to let myself get too high. But man, it's really fun to dream.

Wow! That's even longer than I thought. So Saturday really will be historic. I say Colby 17 Trinity 14 in an epic battle.

Trin has more talent than they did last year. They are 2 to 3 deep at every position. The question is, who will rise up to lead the team this year and if the senior leadership will take advantage of this opportunity.
I predict Trin 34, Colby 17.

per Trinity website:

last loss to Bowdoin - 1998
last loss to Colby - 1995
last loss to Bates - 1979

If my math serves me correctly, that translates to consecutive wins for Trinity over Colby, 11; Bowdoin,17;
Bates, 19.

I think final 76 man rosters were due at NESCAC headquarters in Siberia today. The trend for many NESCAC teams has been to delay the release of rosters on their respective websites until the last minute on Friday. We will see how it goes this year.

I think the Turk has probably knocked on all the doors and collected playbooks at Tufts, Trinity, Wesleyan, Amherst and Middlebury........no coincidence that those also are the top programs in the conference.........

A friend of mine played for Bowdoin in 1998 and they beat Trinity at home (I was there).  Doubt that was the last time it happened but I wouldn't be suprised.

According to records that was the last time.

wow, including Bates and Colby?

EDIT:  Never mind you are right.  Although Trinity has only lost 26 games since 1998 (Bowdoin has lost more games than that in the last 4 seasons), it isn't that surprising I guess.

Lumbercat....interesting post!  76 rosters...Siberia....Turk..
Nescac headquarters is down the street...from Pratt field :). So it is now a 76 limit.  Won't go into the origin of Turk here....to much "Lawrence of Arabia" overtones.
Anyway....back to Nescac football.  Since Amherst's new Science building is open for business...just some outside grounds work to be done, I have more time scanning websites. Bates 2018 roster was up yesterday and if my count is correct, Bates roster has Not reached the limit...either 75 or 76.  It does have some very large linemen...over 300 LBs and young ones.  Big defensive players.  Should be an interesting game for Amherst  on Sat.  Hope the weather is bright and cool for all the games.
I will post later on some meetings with some great Nescac head football coaches...as this season starts with a number of new HFCs.

polbear73

Bowdoin just posted a 76 man roster, 25 of whom are freshmen.  As the Polar Bears graduated 13 seniors, expect to see a fair amount of turnover as I've noticed missing underclassmen from last year from the roster as well as a few players who are not freshmen on this year's roster who are new names or returning from injury.  Also of note is that Bowdoin and Bates will play a night game at 5:30pm on November 3rd.

BigEast

I've heard Bates is holding kicker tryouts. Not sure if they are keeping any, but they might be holding those roster spaces in case they find a guy.

Will post on football, tailgating and booze policy at games,etc...as needed later.  I wish to pause now since it is 9/11.
On 9/10, I had dinner with my older brother who was in town.  My older brother who was in ROTC at Harvard and served in the army at Redstone arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.  He became the Chief Scientist at the Army Missile R&D Org in Huntsville.  My brother was up for a tri service mtg in Crystal City Va. near Regan Airport and the Pentagon.  Ironically, it was at my old office building in Crystal City.  After one of the planes hit the Pentagon, my brother tried to return home.  He finally had to drive his rental car home to Alabama.  My brother and I are both retired from the DOD now.  We both were aware of each other's business but never talked about our work.  We talked about football, our kids, etc. and our former hippie younger brother...PhD from UC-Berkeley...family.  I wish to pause for Amherst and other Nescac alums who died on 9/11 in the twin tower disaster...I wish to pause for classmates who did not return from the Vietnam War.  Thank You all for letting me post here.
Thank you for pausing in observance of 9/11. I have closed my office every 9/11 since 2001, and text my boys every 9/11. My very small way of making sure people remember. And thanks to you and you brother for your service to our Country.
May God Bless America, and keep Her safe today and always.

Plus K for our friend ColbyFootball!
