Game Day!  Have finished my morning chores and the sun is shinning!  Decision ahead on how to watch the Amherst vs Bowdoin game using today's technology...Big I-Pad or on the flat screen.
Gridiron....thanks!  Thought it might be the Lions.  Memory lost prevented me from calling it a battle of the big cats :).
Wanted to alert some posters here of a new book out...football type book called The Game.  Review of the book about the Harvard-Yale 1968 game in Cambridge.  WSJ Reviewer is an author of a book about Dartmouth football.  The Harvard-Yale game ended in a tie and had players that went on to fame in many fields.  There was Calvin Hill of Yale that went on to the NFL.  Yale's QB became a cartoon character "BD" in a Yalie's cartoon creator. The second string Harvard QB that made a two-point conversion to tie the game with no time...quit football.  Harvard's RB Star was 5'6" and would coach at Bates and Tufts...Vic Gatto.
I was in Cambridge at the time, but could not get into the game.  Tickets were being sold by Harvard students for up to 1000 bucks!....to NYC alums.  Harvard was thinking of adding former steel seats to the open end of the Harvard stadium....making it a a "bowl" again.  As the reviewer pointed out, it was a book of the times too.  Toomey Lee Jones, an OL became a well know movie actor...he also was Al Gore's roommate...or vice versa.  Yes, I'm digressing.

What a game, and what a finish in Middletown. Hamilton wins it with about a minute and a half left on a blocked punt for  TD. This was the biggest win for Hamilton in memory. Murray has done a great job with that program.

I'd say Eph football is all the way back!  What a game for Maimaron, Stola and Burke on offense, and the Eph secondary and TJ Rothmann (a mortal lock for DPOW with one of the best defensive games in recent Nescac history), as well a a tough bend but don't break D that made Chipouras earn every yard.  A well-deserved win as the Ephs dominated the second half.  Who saw that coming???  Go Ephs!

I saw some but missed a lot - what happened on the Bischoping TD pass?   What a difference Stola makes!!

Ephsforever

Wow! I think I need to go watch this team in person. Go Ephs indeed!

NESCAC1,

I saw the Williams -Trinity game in person this afternoon. Bischoping is a  tall strong freshman who grew up in Austin, Texas (where real high school football is played and a state that produces numerous outstanding quarterbacks). On the play on which he threw the 50 yard pass on a line, he substituted in for one play. Everyone, particularly Trinity, thought he would probably safely run the ball in that situation and down and distance. Bischoping gives the Ephs two talented quarterbacks a year apart.

It was a brilliant call by the coaches perfectly executed as the pass was caught on the run by Stola just behind behind the defender ....

Wow, thanks Jumpshot.  Raymond is just absolutely fearless and has total faith in his guys.  In his two biggest games as an Eph coach, he went for the jugular at the most unexpected moments (the fake punt in his own territory vs Amherst, and now today with that play call). Players want to play for a coach who puts such trust even in his backups.

This is the team we expected to see this year.  Could be an interesting rest of season.

Not sure if you got to watch the game. I had the pleasure of watching most of it. Beyond exciting. And believe it or not throughout the game I always felt like Hamilton was going to find a way to win. They just gave you that feeling. Murray really is a terrific coach, and my based on my handful of direct experiences with him a nice gut with class. I couldn't be happier for him, and that group of kids.

I was at the game.  Amazingly exciting.  Btw Murray was in the hospital, as he has been all week.  Defense Coordinator Miller was acting HC.  The Conts not only overcame  Wesleyan but also a number of dubious calls by the refs.  Tremendously proud of these boys whose season started so badly but kept believing.

Hamiltonian.....happy for you!   You sure you were there?  Looking at the stats, attendance was "0" and your team should have lost.  It was a good day for football and attendance numbers were high.  The Tufts' game attendance was almost 4000.....Amherst game about 1500.  Loved the attendance number 468 at another game in the Nescac.    Watched the Ohio State vs Penn State in the "white out" conditions last night.  Attendance was over 100,000 plus....stadium full and most everyone for the Nitty Lions....remembered the mascot....wore white and had their faces covered in something white and had white banners.  Close- ups of the crowd did show some fans in red.
Looking at the stats of conference games, some of the losers should have been winners.  Also the conference is full of starting QBs that are both fine runners AND passers.

Amh63, I don't see any game yesterday where a winner should have been a loser.  The better team -on that day - seems to have won every game.

Nescac1.....to clarify further wrt my earlier post.  By looking at the stats of games, a loser of a game...like the Wes game, should have come out a winner.  Stats mainly total yardages, etc.  stats wrt to TOs indeed need further inquiry.  Just read the Wes game writeup on the Wes website.  Seems a blocked punt that Hamilton recovered for a score may have been the "key" TO"?
Amherst's win over a determined PB team was keyed by two goal line stands by Amherst within 5 yard line.....not noted in General stats.  Interesting to note by reading the write ups of games on schools' website...Amherst's and Bowdoin's writeup are identical!
Also pickup knowledge via going to school's websites....Bowdoin's "visitor" stands is on the sunny side!
Bowdoin has a small band playing on the visitor's side.  Wesleyan has cheerleaders at games!  Wesleyan players could use new helmets and uniforms...my opinion via photos.
Midd game awaits further websites inquiry by me.

The final score of Wes-Ham is about what you'd expect when you account for penalties, turnovers, and the big special teams play - all of which are no less important than yards from scrimmage (where the disparity wasn't dramatic in all events).

Correct...re: Ham/Wes...blocked punt for a TD with about 1:30 left won it for HAM...more comments on games later but HAM followed our keys to victory...limited TO's, got the running game going, gave Gray time to throw...IOO, second straight week Wes has shot themselves in the foot...missing their #1 defender Brandon Morris until late in 4th Q was a big factor in the Cards below par effort on D...

Congrats NESCAC1 on the big win yesterday..it's been a long time...we picked HS but were secretly rooting for the Ephs....where's Hs8-0 these days?!?
