To repeat one of my comments awhile back....since it is the game of the week ..."Trinity vs Amherst" this Sat...
A former Amherst Star RB was asked by his teammates if it was ok with him if they hit his younger/bigger Trinity top RB in the upcoming Trinity game.  The Amherst senior RB flatly stated...go ahead, I always hit him growing up. There have been been several other brother matchups in the last decade during Amherst vs Trinity games.  Recall the parents in one changed seating arrangements during halftime.
JEFFFAN...Good point spread.  Agree that the team with the fewest TOs will win.  Appears that it may be wet weather on Sat.

Don't you think the 5:30 PM UBates @ Bowdoin battle of the winless is the GOTW??? After all....it is a C-B-B game... ;D

Not funny, but I lost my sense of humor 24 games ago.

What's the weather forecast? And for what it's worth PB, we would go back to Stalcup at QB....McCrummy is not very good...

Not much to comment on with the abysmal state of the game in Brunswick... But, Stalcup is a gamer!!   He has impact no matter where you put him.  He's been the most effective behind center and playing his a** off as a WR...

GoBlue61

Regarding the comments about the top QB in the NESCAC, the best QBs I have seen so far were the Williams and Tufts QBs.  Granted, everyone looks good against Bowdoin, but both threw the ball well and ran all over us.

Given the weather forecast, if I were the Bowdoin coaches I would go back to Stalcup and run the ball.  It looks like Richam is going to play.  Although last week, Bowdoin used McCrumm and came out throwing in a rain storm. The result was six first downs and zero points for the day.  So I don't hold out hope the coaches will make a change -- predictably.

Wholeheartedly agree.

The major determining factor of the Bates-Bowdoin game will be whether Costa goes for the Bobcats. Believe it's doubtful.
He missed the 2nd half of the Colby game, it was game over when he went down on a drive late in the 1st half.
Without Costa Bowdoin is a strong favorite.

I'd put Trinity as a 7 pt favorite against the Mammoths.

The Trinity passing game can certainly be at times "throwing up prayers to their deep threats"  and I agree that Nothing but Nescac has it right in that regard. That works against most teams in this league because their approach is Our guys are bigger faster and stronger than your guys. That will not work against teams that have any depth at corner and linebackers that can cover and attack the short passing game by limiting RAC yardage and the big play. There are few to no QBs in this league that can connect downfield with the accuracy needed and the URI transfer has an arm but was no better or worse in that regard than the freshman. If they can take a punch and are willing to run it down the throats of Amherst and let their guys up front control the game on offense and defense they will win. Trinity as a team has an ego and swag. I like it. The "ours are better and can beat any of yours one on one at every position on the field" works throughout most of this league. It did not work on that day against Williams. Something tells me the Amherst coach knows that ego well and will do things to force Trinity into over reliance on the match up game at times on Saturday. I think the move at QB and other more strategic in game decisions that I have observed from Trinity will result in Trinity winning a close one on the ground with surprisingly conservative trench based offensive play featuring the running game and short passes complimented by a stout defense. Low scoring game and it might even get boring at times to the casual fan. Trinity by a touchdown. Both punters will get lots of work in this low scoring smash mouth "Its the running game stupid" mash up. The QBs will not be the difference but the big nasty's, running backs, and Trinity's controlled football athletic ego will get the nod. I have no dog in this fight and won't be watching my son plays for another NESCAC team that is not in the hunt.

Lumber, did you sneak a peak at our notes for this weeks picks? Costa is the only player worth considering for NESCAC Fantasy Football. Without him, the 'Cats offense is in big trouble. I will say that Bates defense is pretty good and I think the McCrummy led Bowdoin attack will be challenged to score, unless of course Richam comes back for the Polars. Wouldn't a 0-0 tie be fun???

We will leave everyone guessing on the spread for the big Lord Mammoth/Hartford State showdown but we would say that Lumber's is directionally correct...

Logic says your game plan is the right one. Chipouras left, Chipouras right, Chipouras up the middle....throw in some Lockwood to mix it up. But we are not dealing with logic here. We are dealing with HCOF Jeff who wants to jam it down everyoe's throats and prove a point. Look for him to at least try more than a few "prayers" to Girard in an attempt to break the will of the upstart Lord Mammoths. Meanwhile, we are sure HCOF Mills has cooked up an interesting game plan for HS and will have a few twists of his own...maybe even a little Berlutti back at QB?!? This game could come down to a kick and in that department, we give the edge to HS K Sasche who leads the league in kicking points and has a 50 yarder to his credit this year.

2018 Week #8 NESCACMAN Preview

Welcome to Week #8 in the NESCAC...in "the league where they pay to play". We were 5-0 in week 7, are 28-7 on the season, and are 187-53 in our career (.779 winning pct.)...Game of the year in the NESCAC as Amhurst travels to the Coop to face Hartford State...

Middlebury College at Hamilton College: Both teams coming off loses looking for a win...uncharacteristically challenging year offensively for Middlebury...Hamilton actually outscoring the Panthers thus far in 2018...Middlebury 8th in passing offense...Hamilton is 3rd...both defenses have not been great giving up about 30 points per game...we think this game is a pretty evenly matched game...We are going to go with the better QB and the home team in a squeaker in the rain.

Hamilton 24 Middlebury 21
Point Spread: Hamilton giving 2 points.
Weather: Periods of rain. High of 43.

Colby College at Tufts University: Colby comes in riding a 2 game winning streak and has played decently in 3 of the last 4 weeks...FY QB Matt Hersch looks like the real deal and a formidable combo with reigning NESCAC RB Jake Schwern...meanwhile, Tufts has lost 2 of their last 3 and will try to finish out strong eyeing a 7-2 season...QB McDonald nursing a high ankle strain takes him out of his run first, pass second game...Tufts defense is just too good and their offense is just too experienced for the young Mules as Tufts wins their last home game of the year.

Tufts 28 Colby 13
Point Spread: Tufts giving 17 points.
Weather: Rain and wind. High of 64.

Wesleyan University at TTUN: Wesleyan has had the Ephs number is recent years winning the last 5 games over their Little 3 rival...Wes has outscored TTUN 143-21 in the last 4 games...both teams bounced back with wins last week...DT Taj Gooden has been a beast for Wes and should have been defense POTW last week in the NESCAC IOO...we like Wesleyan with the mild upset on the road based on the fact that Coach Dice always seems to have the Cards up for the big game against his alma matter.

Wesleyan 24 TTUN 20
Point Spread: TTUN giving 3 points.
Weather: Rain and wind. High of 64.

University of Bates (Lewiston Campus) at Bowdoin College: Should be a "fun" one as these two C-B-B rivals face off under the lights...someone has to win, right??? UBates needs injured QB Costa to play and Bowdoin needs injured RB Richam to play...if either plays while the other doesn't, that team will win...if neither or both plays, this game could get interesting...Bowdoin will try to salvage their season by winning out and gaining the C-B-B title...HCOF Malik looking for first win...we like UBates in a close one.

UBates 17 Bowdoin 14
Point Spread: Bowdoin giving 1 point.
Weather: Rain. High of 56.

NESCAC Game of the Week

Amhurst College at Hartford State: Teams appear to be very evenly matched with both of them at or near the top of the league in most offensive and defensive categories...Amhurst seems to have Hartford State's number winning 4 of the last 5 games and 6 of the last 9....however, Hartford State has won every meeting at home since 2007...Hartford State has won their last 16 games in the Coop...Amhurst coming off a big win against Tufts while HS crushed Middlebury...this game is for all of the marbles....HS just does not lose big games at home and they won't this year either.

Hartford State 24 Amhurst 17
Point Spread: Hartford State giving 6 points.
Weather: AM showers. High of 61.

Nescacman.....don't you sleep these days?   Fair assessment of the game of the week. A surprise maybe coming in Hartford... :).   Interesting prediction for the Little Three game.  Let the games begin as they say in Spartacus.

Nescacman-
gotta say it- another nice preview. Couldn't agree more on the Bates-Bowdoin game. I know pretty well whats going on in those venues and you have it nailed.
I agree pretty much on the other games but like the Ephs at home.
