Word is Shem Bloom, DC is definitely gone.  No surprise there.   Team's initial impression of BJ is good...  taking a wait and see approach.
Viall's situation unclear.  Viall was set to attend some events that he cancelled out of creating speculation that he is gone as well.

Maybe we should give ColbyDad BJ's number so he can bring him up to speed on Michaels ;-)
Have heard the same thing about Bloom and Viall.  If true, I feel bad for them as they not only held the program together but, by all accounts, oversaw a very good recruiting class.  It's a shame that they would go and Michaels stays.

If both coordinators will be gone it baffles me why they would stick around as lame ducks while most of the job opportunities in other places are being filled.

Baffles me too, especially since they were JB's guys.  Even if Bowdoin offered a financial inducement to stay, it would only be a short term arrangement.

Julian Banerji (sp) was recruited by Trinity and was recruited directly by JB Wells to Bowdoin. Assume Wells departure influenced his change of heart.

What I've heard is that Banerji committed early decision to Bowdoin after being told he likely wouldn't make Trinity's roster. The Bowdoin AD called him to say they would honor his commitment, but he was subsequently denied admission which is how he ended up at Union. Not a great look and unfortunate if the Polar Bears burned a bridge with Hand of Madison, which is one of the top programs in CT and produces a ton of NESCAC talent.

You are right, Trin8-0, this is bad and it has to stop for a program to build and maintain credibility.  I know that this happened fairly frequently when Dave Caputi was head coach, although not with AD involvement.  This is a young man's college career that's at stake. Inexcusable.

So the beat goes on in terms of the Bowdoin admissions department being completely impossible. I read about this kid at the time of his commitment and he had a solid GPA and scores -- not top-of-the-line but definitely within the range of admissibility (3.7 GPA, 1370 SAT, 30 ACT). And a two-sport recruit, with baseball his other sport.

more from BJ Hammer as he speaks to the Bowdoin student newspaper. He will be bringing in his own O coordinator in short order (possibly from Allegheny?) and will be taking over the defense himself so the two top Bowdoin assistants (Viall and Bloom) will be out. He may bring in one other position coach.

I believe a lot of d3 football coaching contracts are with the school and are 10 months.  When Ithaca hired a new HC 2 years ago, 2-3 assistants from the old coach stayed on through most of the spring before being replaced by the HC's guys.

If he does bring Braden Layer over from Allegheny to be the OC, that's a great pull.  In just a couple of seasons, Layer flipped an offense that struggled to even move the ball (for real - in 2015, Allegheny's offense ranked 242 out of 243 in the Division in both yards per game and points per game) into an offense that was historically good at Allegheny (38th nationally in total offense in 2017).  Layer is a really good, young offensive mind and he obviously works well with Coach Hammer.  That would be a fantastic duo for Bowdoin if that's how the chips fall.

Is this something that happens in the NESCAC or is this a Bowdoin thing?

When do the recruits see an ED2 decision from schools?

To add to Wally Wabash's thoughts, during Coach Hammer's time at Wabash, their defense was among the top 5 in D3.  Allegheny's was in the top 10 statistically this past season in several categories.

Bowdoin's ED2 decisions typically are released in the first week of February . . .

Amherst does not use/have an ED2 process presently.
