Bloom and Viall have been taken down from the Bowdoin coaches page, although not yet replaced by quicksilver's information. This unfortunately implies that Michaeles stays.

Does anyone on here (besides colbyfootball who appears to have taken down his last post) actually know Michaels?  Or if Michaels is a good coach or knows what he is doing?  Has anyone talked to other coaches and have been told that Michaels isn't a good coach and doesn't know what he is doing?

There's a vacant assistant coaching position at Trinity:
https://trincoll.peopleadmin.com/postings/1854

The description doesn't indicate, but based on the current staff listing it seems as though the job would be coaching RBs.

Both Layer and Cochran tweeted about their new jobs yesterday, with Layer saying that he would be starting his new job as O coordinator at Bowdoin today so it is all happening quickly . .According to Layer's bio, his specialties include working with QBs . .

Good point Jonny. Ive known many players and members of the coaching community who have always spoken very highly of Michaeles. We've had a bitter helicopter parent on this board who has harbored a strong hatred for Micheales because he benched his son.  This pretty much set the tone here. Looking beyond that Micheales has a very strong group of supporters especially among his former players.

I will admit to have been swayed, not only by the aforementioned Colby parent but by other comments on this Board.  I didn't realize this until reading Jonny's post today that I've condemned Coach Michaeles without any personal evidence and I apologize.  It's in my rooting interest that he is a good coach.  I'll be more careful.

Good luck to Bloom and Vial in securing jobs at this point.  Bloom is very well respected and Vial said to be a very sharp kid who has been a loyal JBW guy. Hope they both land good coaching opportunities.

When Michael Masse from Xaverian was a Soph. he looked like a legit d1 guy (size and skill for a LB/FB).  He had a knee injury his Jr. year and didn't seem to turn out to be the d1 prospect he could have been.  Slowed down a little but I think he could be a huge asset for Trinity.

Layer started his college playing career at Denison as a QB, converted to WR after two years and worked his way into a first team all-NCAC WR by the time he was done.  I've already mentioned his bona fides as an OC, but I'll just reiterate here that the Hammer/Layer combo is a successful one.  I don't know what a realistic ceiling is for Bowdoin football in the next, say, four years, but they'll be improved.  There's no doubt about that.

Steve Hashemi GA who coached RBs took a position at EKU.

I personally know the Michaeles and can say  they are great people. I've been saddened by the attacks against his character and have found some statements to be only partially or completely untrue. You can argue all day about whether he made a good head coach  in a challenging environment  ( which is quite different from being an assistant coach). All I can attest to is their personal character is top notch imo.  Everybody has different experiences with different people in life so you'll never find everybody in agreement  but knowing them personally, I know some of the ins and outs of what they've gone through in the last couple of years.  Outside of politics, there are not a lot of jobs where your future is constantly uncertain and your family can be openly insulted.  It would be nice to just let them be and focus on Ws  & Ls or Xs & Os.  Or even the battle of admissions or who has the best recruits. ;) Your board is often much more intellectual and interesting to follow than many D1 schools I've followed when the subject matter is respectful.

I'd like to reopen the invitation to the fans of all the NESCAC teams to chime in and share their observations from last season. Particularly, which underclassmen impressed you on offense  and defense? Which players do you predict will have a breakout season?

Colby-

And I thought you were working on letting it go.  It's a difficult process but it's part of the game. It happens often. Ironically, the lefty who replaced your son was benched this year when Cosgrove decided to go with FY Hersh. Based on Hersh's performance O'Brien will have a tough time getting his job back. However, I guarantee O'Brien will work like a dog in the off season and return to Colby in the best shape of his life to compete like hell to try and win "his" job back....as your son did.

As you know it doesn't always work out. I just hope O'Briens Dad doesn't launch a hate campaign on Coach Cosgrove, but don't think he will.

No issue with your son here, I had a lot of respect for him as a tough kid, a good competitor. If you want to look at my past posts on the issue you'll see that I was a big supporter of 16 citing his great second half comeback against Bates three years ago. While he fell short I posted how impressed I was with his performance that day and questioned why he was not the starter.

Good luck in continuing your efforts to move on from the unpleasant experience.

I can also attest to Michaeles' character as a person. A  loyal, dedicated and passionate man who cares deeply about his players.

For his role in Brunswick, I think there is cause to be optimistic. When Michaeles took over playcalling duties in Waterville in '09 the mules offense improved by over 10 ppg over the next two seasons. Just my .02
