Lumbercat....your posts wrt to football expenses...in 2017...are confusing.  Amherst' s expenses are higher than Williams, but per player is lower.  Is it due to more football players than Williams?
It is to be noted that Amherst's stadium was built via alum/friends of the football program versus College endownment funds or general fund raising...College Prez was very specific on the matter.  A small number of donors made it happen with the parent of one player donating the Major amount.  His name is on the Stadium portion and the FieldHouse portion has another name now.
Hawk196.....school's endownment size has "weak" relationships/connections to the football/athletic programs and the student population.  Endownment numbers are often very specific....i.e invested in the market.  Amherst has the highest endownment/per student in the Nescac.  Amherst has more money invested in the market than Williams since it also invests the Folger Shakespeare Library's Endownment....yes, it's not always straight forward as it appears :)

Williams has a higher per student endowment than Amherst (2.8 billion for 2061 students vs 2.4 billion for 1849 ... as of almost a year ago.  I imagine Williams is close to if not just over 3 billion, and Amherst over 2.5, by now).  But in all events both have an insane amount of resources, to the point where financial constraints are just about meaningless for any core institutional priority.

Jeffs beat Ephs in NCAA lacrosse semi-finals today!   Great game.

JEFFFAN....agree!  Have posted the results on the lacrosse board.  Just watched the post game shows, Ephs and Jeffs shows today.  Amherst players were all juniors....leading me to think that Amherst may not have their seniors around in time for the May 26 title game at 4pm in Philly.  Amherst's graduation is in the morning of May 26th.

Lots of graduation ceremonies conflict with NCAA Tournament play this time of year; I've never heard of a student-athlete skipping the game for the ceremony. Often schools will put together a diploma presentation on-site for student-athletes still competing.

The Middlebury women had quite a large group of seniors on their 2016 roster.  They had their own graduation ceremony after winning the championship.

Yes, other schools have made special arrangements, including Tufts.  Remember in the past wrt Amherst baseball....the decision was left to the senior players and their  parents...including one father who was a Prof. at Dartmouth.   Amherst has never made any special arrangements in the past that I am aware of.   Since the Nescac Player of the year twice over has the last name beginning with "W", along with another player.....they could be moved to head of the line when they go on stage to receive their diploma and then their class cane.  Yes, there could be a first for Amherst.

It is remarkable how strong the NESCAC is in athletics.   In women's lacrosse, three of the final four teams are from the NESCAC.  In men's lacrosse, it was the last two standing from the NESCAC.   Tennis is equally represented.   Good stuff, NESCAC.

Would love to see a 10th non-conference game for football and an automatic playoff bid to the NCAA.
TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

Be careful what you wish for. You could have to play Mount Union in the first round.    ;D

I'd bet on NESCAC voting to eliminate football before I'd bet on NESCAC deciding to become playoff-eligible in football.  (Not that I think either is imminent, but I think the former is more likely in the long run).

Football discussions here is getting "Strange"...ncaa playoffs...football elimination.
Williams vs Amherst is the 3rd/4th oldest football game in football history!  Conn College fielding a football team will happen before a 10 game schedule.  The Ivies go to the NCAA in almost all sports except football and crew.  The Harvard vs Yale long crew race down the Conn River will continue before Both schools enter any NCAA related crew championships.

I certainly defer to your judgement in matters relating to NESCAC! My earlier comment was just meant in jest and having fun with you guys.
I have the greatest respect for the schools in your conference. These are top academic institutions. Wish my undergraduate alma mater belonged in this group. But, we do play football. We can beat you there, probably.
Gotta love all these small, old, liberal arts schools, like yours and mine. I'm glad I went there. I'd do it again. Go NESCAC and Go OAC! 🎓 🏈  ;D

Remember, the only reason the conference went to a 9th game was that the ADs persuaded the presidents on safety rationale: it eliminated a week of hitting as they became subject to the regular season ban on hitting. As much as we'd like to think it was an expansion of football, it wasnt. A 10th game and NCAA play will not happen in our lifetime.
