Good research but believe the operating expenses are a component within the expense category so I don't think you add those.  This would get you closer to my numbers from Jan 2019.
I didn't get numbers for every NESCAC school but here are the numbers as of 1/19:

Expenses:

Trin 805,751
Am 672,870
Wil 569,327
Bowdoin 676,952
Colby 613,469
Bates 522,229

Per Player:

Trin 2,240
Am 1,496
Wil 1,658
Bowdoin 1,709
Colby 1,632
Bates 1,297

Big discrepancy in the Colby numbers between Trinity 80 and my numbers..... maybe reflective of enhanced commitment with the Cosgrove era?

However one thing all these numbers show is there is very minimal correlation between Football spending and school endowments.

I don't understand why they would include Expenses and Operating Expenses (which they also indicate is commonly referred to as "game-day expenses") as separate line items. There also doesn't appear to be any overlap in their definitions, though it is odd that travel is listed under Expenses while lodging and meals are covered in Operating (or game-day) Expenses. Regardless, I don't think it's accurate to exclude that significant amount of expenses from the total picture. These aren't my numbers, this is just the data taken from the site.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be a correlation between annual spending on football and the size of each school's endowment (each is spending less than 0.2% of it's total endowment on football annually, and most less than 0.1%!). But, more importantly, there does not appear to be any correlation to program spending and on-field success. One of the main points of your argument is:

Quote from: lumbercat on September 09, 2019, 09:41:46 PMThey (Trinity) have a very strong financial commitment from the college regardless of their endowment.

This data indicates that Trinity's annual financial commitment to football is pretty much in the middle of the pack in relation to NESCAC peers. Am I missing something?

Yes, Trinity is spending more than that on football.
You are overlooking Trinity Football "revenues" which are over 1 mil.
Amherst revenue about 750k and Williams 550k.

See we are still chatting wrt "money".  Oh well, I had some idle time, so as usual I have been looking in on some other sporting events around the conference.  In general the Nescac teams have been winning over their out of conference opponents.  The RPI men's soccer win over Williams was a surprise.  Anyway, I enjoyed the Bates' article wrt the upcoming football game with Amherst this Sat. on Pratt Field.  The cited Amherst lineups on defense and offense was a surprise as well as the comment of the change in the Amherst defensive set up from a 3-4 to a 4-3.  Yes, Amherst lost some great LBs.  Realize that Bates' HC is a graduate/player from UMass-Amherst.  Must still have a lot of local contacts :).  Bates cited more passing this season.  It is nice to know that Amherst retains many of it's DBs'.   Still no roster info on the Amherst website.  Maybe Friday...along with a game preview?  Possibility of some showers on Sat.

Amh63,
Here is a link to the 2019 roster.
http://athletics.amherst.edu/sports/fball/2019-20/roster
I'm not a tech guy, but it's there, just not connected to the link on the page yet. The projected starters that were noted in the nothing but NESCAC preview weren't well-informed considering some mentioned aren't on the team this year. I think the Bates preview had a more up to date list of Amherst's potential starters.

NBC93....thanks for the link.   Some observations.  Amherst's roster list 72 members.  Pic has one player not in uniform....too lazy to chase him down, but is one of the 72.  First, a key RB is not listed.  The RB from Baltimore, MD, would be a senior this year.  His jersey number has NOT been given to another player.  Second observation.  A talented player from South Carolina was listed as a QB coming into school.  The player is now listed as a WR...a fine athlete that will use his speed and hands elsewhere. Do not know why Amherst is listing only 72 players.  Maybe expecting some players to to be added/return later.

I guess NESCACMAN and his weekly NESCAC pigskin prognostications are officially an element of history.

Although he never picked against the spread he did a very entertaining post each week with predictions and comments on every game.  He knew how to to elicit some great emotions and opinions. A lot of fun but it doesn't look like his raucous, irreverent arsenal will be returning.

We have Al Davis in retirement. Frankie U is hanging out at the Log. ColbyFootball has smoothed some hard feelings out and is doing Yoga while he tackles the NESCAC recruiting circuit again. And who was the the Amherst Dad from LA who trolled the board for political stuff?  Forgot about him but when he said he delivered the LA Times to the greatest of all time Jim Brown  everybody took notice.
And last, the inimitable Polarcat with his acerbic wit and great insights on the league from an Ivy prospective.

Heres to the newbies who come in as their kids enter a great 4 year experience playing football in the NESCAC. Enjoy the tailgates and your son's experience. All the clinics and recruiting are are over. Time to let em play. It will be a great ride.

Bowdoin has its game review with Hamilton on its site.  Real slick presentation...like a couple of other schools.  Seems the new football facilities are complete....with new restrooms.  Broadcasts will be in HD and have instant replays!

New Bowdoin facility looks great.

Wondering which side of the field the Hammer will designate as the home side.
With initial Whittier Field renovations they moved the home side away from the iconic grandstand side were it had been for 80+ years. The displeasure among alums hastened a move back to tradition last year.
On one hand the Polar Bears should always be on the traditional home side but the renovations were designed for them to be on the opposite side.
Kind of an enigma though we enjoyed sitting of the new side last year. No question the best visiting seating in the NESCAC.

OK, Tufts vs Trinity

not the 1st game I would've wanted. If the O-line for Tufts can hold their own, we'll see, if not it could get ugly.....

what says you?

nescac1

In the Tufts student paper, it notes five different guys who may play QB this year, and Civetti notes that it will be a QB-by-committee type situation.  Now, it's possible he is just playing coy, but if none of the QBs have managed to separate themselves from the pack at this point, that's not where you want to be heading into (gulp) a week one game against Trinity ... Tufts still has plenty of talent elsewhere, but until the QB situation is sorted out, I think on Saturday we may get a reminder of just HOW valuable Ryan McDonald was the last few seasons.  Tufts' D may be enough to make it competitive, but hard to imagine them putting many points up vs. Trinity's stacked D with such a green offense.

Colby-Wesleyan and Midd-Williams are the other really interesting games this week, in my view ... both should be very competitive.

Jacob Carrol should be the starting QB for Tufts this weekend.

All the NBN guys picked Hamilton- I don't see it that way.
