A little early for me here....big day of sports at Amherst.  Surprised to see TWO friends on this Football board...Magicman and Vandy74 ;D.  But it's Panthers fans.  plus K's to both of you.  It's Fall weather even in Md.....temp in the 40's.  Keep warm and dry everyone for the game.

Vandy didn't Lebowitz beat Amherst at Amherst in 2017?

I'm not Vandy but I'll answer your question. Yes he did, by a final score of 35-31. But previous to that win you had to go back to 2007 to discover the last time the Panthers won at Amherst. Vandy must have been thinking of that stretch and forgot about the win in 2017, since they lost there in 09, 11, 13, and 15. To Vandy they must have all ran together and he skipped right over that one. ;D

I have watched many NESCAC games in person and on video through the past several years. I've always held two strong opinions. First, coaching matters big time. And second, there's a fine line between the teams. It doesn't take much to go from the middle of the pack to the top tier. This year is shaping up that way.

Looks like the Amherst-Middlebury clash may not be the close game it was supposed to be as the Panthers have jumped out to a 21-0 lead after 11 minutes of the first quarter. Two interception by Middlebury and quick strikes by the Panthers passing game, right after the turnovers has left the LM's reeling.

Anyone else having an issue with today's telecasts?

Whether to blame aging eyes or my short-term memory, ::) either way I always trust magicman to cover my back. ;)

I watch the games on the NESCAC Network app on FireTV and my ipad and haven't had any issues for any of the games so far.

The 2 INTs were crippling for Amherst. Passing game isn't quite there for Amherst. I think all of the picks were tipped. Run game is there but haven't put together sustained drives.

Amherst fights back to take their first lead of the afternoon at 28-21 with 11:30 left to play in the game.

Wow. Mindblowingly bad decision from Ritter to throw the ball on 2nd and 5 from inside the 15 with 30 seconds left and Carter Massingill ready to go. Amherst interception forces overtime.

Probably the worst call made in Midd football history!

Middlebury defeats Amherst in overtime 34-31.

Maxwell Rye makes a great catch on 3rd down and 5 to move the chains in the 2nd overtime.  Then on 3rd down and 6 at the Amherst 9 yard line, QB Will Jernigan scrambles to his left and gets off a pass to Rye again, who manages to get wide open in the end zone because of the QB scramble. Great job by both players. The fans at this game and watching the video sure got their money's worth as it was exciting football from start to finish. Middlebury puts a big hurt on Amherst to open up the 21 point early lead only to have the Mammoths come all the way back with 28 unanswered points to take the lead in the 4th quarter. The Panthers manage to tie the game and force overtime and then the teams took turns stopping each other with defense in the first OT. In the 2nd extra period Amherst gets a 31 yard field goal on 4th down, with their possession, which leads to the climactic score by Rye and Jernigan to win the game. The key play though, was the 7 yard, 3rd down catch, that Rye made from the Amherst 20 down to the 13 yard line. It didn't seem possible he could make that catch and stay inbounds but he did and kept the winning drive alive. Midd would have been forced to try about a 37 yard field goal if he didn't make that grab just to stay alive and force another OT. Super catch to help bring a great ending to an outstanding game played by two good teams. It's a shame someone had to lose. I haven't watched as many D3 football games as I normally do but sure glad I got to see this one. 8-)

Great effort by Amherst to overcome some tough breaks early and a 21-0 deficit and take it to OT. If Midd hadn't pulled that out how many Panther faithful would be asking pointed questions about that pass to end the 4th?

AmH63 —- what are you putting in your Coke tonight?

Epic, and nto always epic in a good way, game between Amherst and Middlebury.  For the coaches one wonders if it felt like a roller coaster ride.
Both sides threw some pretty bad interceptions....which only served to make the game more dramatic.
Did ANYONE think Middlebury could be this successful a month ago.  Anyone?
Colby Football wrote earlier that it's not that far from the middle of the pack to the top.  Until this year I may have taken issue with his statement.  But, CB is 100% right and Middlebury is the example.
