Trin8-0.....some other points wrt discussions on records/yardage/receptions.
Freddie Scott was a walk-on from Arkansas that came to Amherst for academic factors.  His career receptions were over his three years playing football.  Freddie went on to the NFL and was a captain on the Detroit Lions.  Freddie had a career yardage of 2,336 yds.  Also, there were fewer number of games played during a season in the 70's.

I think Von Jess warrants some consideration (I have him third right now).  But I just don't think a kicker should top a starting TB and S, both playing at a very high level on other very good teams.  But if Wesleyan wins the league and Von Jess keeps performing at this level, and especially if the Midd TB is out for a few games, I would not be shocked to see Von Jess win ROY, which I imagine would be without precedent in NESCAC ...

Thanks Trin 8-0.  Interesting indeed!  Perceval I recall being an absolute beast, as well.

Of course, the NESCAC being all benevolent and "King Solomon-like" could have co-winners...would not be a shock...

Hats off to Colby for coming to play hard Saturday.  They gave Midd everything they could handle on that day.  Hopefully, they're (relatively) happy with coming close and knowing they can win.  Can't help but feel bad for the kicker and the lineman who cost the Mules 15 yds on the extra point that hit the upright after getting an unsportsmanlike penalty for spiking the ball after recovering a fumble for a TD in the end zone.  As for Midd, just happy to survive and advance.  Hopefully they'll get some guys back and yet another "game of the year" will be a good one next week.
If Midd doesn't get TE-Cosolito, OL-Woodring and RB-Maldjian back for the Wesleyan game it will spell trouble for them.

Trin8-0, while we're on the topic of receivers, what's going on with the WR corps over in Hartford? I, like many others I assume, thought that Girard and Schofer with another year under their belts, and another year for Lambert, would be absolutely unstoppable, especially adding Reid into the mix. All three are averaging 75+ YPG but they don't seem to have the same impact. Any insight?

Also among the missing is Griffin Pizzano, the other OL injured in the Amherst game.

After gaining 24 yards on 5 carries in Middlebury's opening drive Maldjian never returned to the playing field.  He didn't seem injured as he walked the bench sideline.  If it's a concussion concern what is the protocol, does anyone know?  Another freshman, LeeCharles McNeil, did a fine job filling the backfield vacancy with his 18 carries for 63 yards effort that included a touchdown.

Sounds like all 3 should be back.

I'm a little late making this post, but it was nice to see Nescacman show some love for the Continentals last week. As I drove into Willytown on Saturday morning I did see some flying barnyard animals(rhyming with big) fly by! And that was BEFORE the visit to the dispensary! Who knew that Stola would become Jerry Rice? He was really otherworldly with his 4 TDs. He was actually pretty well covered on three of them. He got Wesley Walker- like separation on the last one. Mamaron is an exceptional play action ball handler. Hamilton did a decent job against the run early, but once the QB/WR combo got going, we knew it was going to be a difficult day. NESCAC 1's analysis is spot on. I was thinking about the defensive challenge posed by Mamaron/Stola on my drive through the peak scenery. Ideally, you'd like to spy the QB, but then you lose an extra guy to help on brackets and doubles. Hamilton showed some punch on offense, with Kagan and Gray prominent. Not getting a TD on the opening drive was a killer. Kagan is legit, he is deceptively quick, and he punishes tacklers. Even without Wagner and Schmidt, the Conts have some playmakers in the passing game, they just don't have as much elite talent. Hamilton is nobody's punching bag, and they'll have a chance to beat a top tier team with Amherst, Tufts, and Middlebury ahead.

Yet another Duxbury player heading to Williams (aka Duxbury West) ... that will make at least five on next year's roster!   In addition to Bobby Maimaron, Eli Peters has made a big impact early in his career, as he is starting at NT as a sophomore.

DC 53...guess you are a Hamilton follower.  Before the change in the schedule this season, I would attend the Hamilton vs Amherst game in NY.  Pick  up my daughter and her family....from Groton village NY...and make the nice drive via the backroads to the "village" where Hamilton College resides. Pass the town of Hamilton where another college sits...Colgate.  Anyway, after a nice lunch in the village, attend the football game.
Hamilton will be a tough opponent this weekend for Amherst.  Hope both teams will be at full strength.  Will watch the game online this season.  Expect Amherst NOT to overlook Hamilton with a Little Three opponent next week...Homecoming weekend at Amherst.

In all honesty, I haven't watched as much Trin football this season (2 year old twins take up most of my free time on Saturday's these days!). I was able to watch via livestream the second half of the Tufts and Midd games and the first half of the Hamilton game and I do read the recaps from Devanney and watch the video breakdown when I can. As you note, the numbers for Girard, Schofer, and Reid are all solid. Schofer has been the most consistent aside from the Bowdoin game where Reid really just exploded (60% of his yards and all four of his TDs came in that one game).

I think it's just a matter of there only being one football to go around. Trinity still leads the league in passing yards and is tied for the lead in TDs so the collective impact is there. All three three rank in the top 10 in yards, receptions and touchdowns. By comparison, the second leading receiver for Williams behind Stola is TE, Tyler Spiezio with just 5 catches for the season.

Trinity's problem isn't at WR. Their special teams have been very poor, they take too many bad penalties, and two of their traditional strengths, offensive line and defense, have been less than stellar. Throw in far too many turnovers and an injury at tailback and you've got a disappointing 3-2 record with Williams, Amherst, and Wesleyan still on the schedule.

Despite the perception that Devanney only wins because he has unlimited resources and access to players, he is actually an excellent coach with excellent assistants who have been with the program for a long time. Trinity's teams always improve as the season goes on and I expect them to finish strong. While it likely won't mean a 4th consecutive NESCAC title, a 7-2 season isn't out of the question.

amh63, My son last played for the Continentals in the fall of 2014. I attended all 32 of his games, wishing that there were more! Long ago, I took the advice of a man with strong Amherst connections, as I continue to enjoy the back roads, "The Roads (sic) Less Taken". The scenic beauty of the areas leading to Clinton remain vastly underrated. When I traveled solo, I would always opt for back roads. I have great memories of my treks through NESCAC country.

Let's hope including the the other OL-Pizzano that Vandy mentioned.  Jernigan got sacked three times by Colby so having the OL back in tact for protection would help.  So would having Cosolito back as a target.

The boys and I are taking our dad to Clinton to watch his eldest grandson play. It's only my second game at Hamilton and we didnt stick around for any meals last time. Any suggestions on parking, restaurants, etc.?

amh63

NBC93....assuming you are referring to eating places.  First, it will depend of when you arrive in the Village of Clinton NY....and where you start from.  If you come in via highways, you may go through the town of Utica...short drive to Clinton...that has a number of eating places before or after the game.  In the Village of Clinton there are a number of places to eat and should have parking available.
Suggest you go online to Clinton Village, NY. There is a town square and the road to the College is around the corner.  Food dining places are on the square...and around the corner.  Check the dining places on campus...like at Wes, Amherst, etc. visitors are welcome for a price :).  Several times there were small cookouts provided by Amherst fans...but would not count on it.   Dining on campus is not too far from the football field and associated parking.

NBC93

Amh63,
Thanks for the tips. We will be coming via 90 from the west and staying near Clinton both Friday and Saturday nights before we head back through Canada on Sunday. Will definitely check online for eating places but wondered if there is an absolute must-visit kind of place.
As far as the game itself, Hamilton seems to be on the upswing. I'm looking forward to a competitive game. Hopefully Amherst can fire on all cylinders and put together a complete game for the win.
