I agree, both were surely great backs. But besides the gap in carries, Chipouras (5.4) has Hickey (5.2) beat in yards per carry. Plus, while Hickey's numbers surely would have been better if he was not playing in a 2 RB system, you still have to give Chipouras credit for being able to shoulder that load game in and game out.

Ironically, though, I think you could make the argument that Amherst missed Hickey more than Trinity missed Chipouras this year. I don't think it was a coincidence that we saw Ollie Eberth struggle in his senior year without the presence of a strong run game.

Good points- I agree.
At the end of the day I'd take either one.
Just loved the forward lean Hickey had- able to get very low for a big back.

Perspective from Colby trustee on the fall semester
The President of Washington & Lee was also interviewed. He stressed the importance of athletics, and for getting the students on campus for classes. They're actually considering starting classes early so they can end the fall semester before Thanksgiving. That is forward looking by W & L, not the frightened manor I fear the nescac's will handle this.

The esteemed NESCAC presidents are understandably waiting for developments in this very fluid situation. At the end of the day they will most likely follow an imminent cue which will come from the beloved Ivies.  That will provide a credible benchmark for the NESCAC Prexys to formulate their game plan.

Interesting to note that W&L prez Dudley is a Williams alum, former professor, and provost.

President Dudley has had to make some hard calls during his tenure at W&L. He managed to calm the name debate for a while again, though it will reflash eventually. This will be another big moment for him. It was a good interview and as an alum I've been really pleased with his tenure and demeanor. We will see how the fall goes, but W&L in rural Lexington VA is a hard benchmark or example for schools in much more urban areas.

But similar benchmark for some—certainly not all—NESCAC schools, Middlebury probably being the most comparable.

FYI, I'm a W&L alum, too, and grew up in Lex, the son of a journalism prof.

Small world. I have a '00 BA in Print Journalism to go along with my '00 BS in Business Admin. Good times. Miss Lex.

So, you'll remember my dad—Professor Jennings. (I graduated in '93.)

Not only do I remember your dad, but he was my Journalism Department advisor. I only had him for one class, something about movies as a medium, but I remember him as an engaging professor as well. I admit I spent more time with my business advisor than your dad, I can only remember about 3 meetings in total with him, but I liked him quite a lot. I hope he is doing well and enjoying his status as a professor emeritus.

HA. That's great. Yes, he and my mom are still in Lex, doing well.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for letting me know. I'm sure he would not remember me, though others in the department at the time probably would and are glad not to be reminded, but I'm happy to hear they are both doing well. A nice trip down memory lane since my 20 year reunion this spring was cancelled.

And now back to what little DIII football conversation there is to be had!

Huntingdon is doing things in this manner as well. The logic, as I follow it, is that this way you do not bring students back from Thanksgiving and have them re-mingle, then perhaps scatter again before the incubation period is up between return from Thanksgiving and finals.

I guess there is logic to that. I think the things schools such as Beloit and Luther are doing, which includes starting the semester with mini-terms of a few weeks and a class or two at a time, sounds pretty well thought-out, because it gives schools a couple of set points at which they could bring students to campus, or send them home, with minimal interruption.

I really like this "bubble" theory.  Prescreen all students, emphasize hygiene, hyper-clean all public areas.  However, no breaks (fall or T-Giving) until winter break.  Then reassess for spring semester
