The magic bullet you describe exists, but it doesn't make money for Big Pharma. It is the Hydroxychloroquine Z Pack combo. You can check the studies, and if anyone messages me I'd be happy to supply them. It's bring used successfully worldwide, but it must be used early. Within 5 days of the onset of symptoms. The earlier the better. It's efficacy when used early makes a vaccine less urgent, possibly even unnecessary. As well as the other expensive drugs under study, e.g. Remdesivir at over $3,000 a course of treatment. And Remdesivir hasn't shown great results. It's about the $$$.

The most promising piece of data about HCQ + azithromycin is the increased possibility that you won't die from COVID... because of the increased possibility that you will die from the HCQ. So it's got that going for it. The other studies on it are inconclusive or show negative results, and while there may be promising benefits, it's still TBD as decent studies are still in process.

Edit to Add: And to be clear, I hope we find that it's actually effective, but the data here and elsewhere doesn't show it, Dr Raoult in France has even tempered his claims, so calling it a magic bullet that makes a vaccine less urgent or unnecessary is going way too far.

Please, for the love of God, keep the quackery off this board.

That being said, if you touch each of your doorknobs EXACTLY 14 times before you leave your house, you will not catch Covid!

Quackery = That which one does not understand (or does not fit into their narrative) ;)

Going to try the football stuff again--if there is no NESCAC season at all this year, and all of the players are granted another season of eligibility, is there any player on your team or in the league that you think would be a good fit to transfer up?

As always when you talk about the jump up from D3, especially in football, it is mainly about size/athleticism, and not so much about production. My first thought was actually Hamilton kicker Sam Thoreen---two years of eligibility remaining, went 10/10 on kicks with a long of 44. Also kicked a 40 yarder to beat Amherst at the buzzer.

I don't know enough about the specific strength/athleticism requirements and how each guy at the top of the league would or would not translate. From a Williams standpoint, I would think Frank Stola would have a chance to get onto the field as a WR, and that rising sophomore OLs Terry Zapf (6'6, 300) and John Freeman (6'4, 290) would at least have the measurables, combined with 3 more years of a D1 weight room, to catch the eye of a staff.

Agree with your Williams picks, SpringSt7.  Also Joel Nicholas.   Jon Girard from Trinity would be my top pick.  That dude is a monster.  Estevez from Wesleyan is such a good athlete that he could find a role at a higher level.  Maybe Simco from Wesleyan.  Taj Gooden has the physical tools for sure but other things holding him back.  Jovan Nenandovic, Tufts.

Several articles of interest found in today's WSJ...for this board...maybe?  One deals with D1 football schools wrt how to deal with financial matters...ticket holders/alums...if they are restricted by state rules wrt how many people in their 100000 seat stadiums.  Note that some games are in the Sept. timeframe.
My daughter lives near Ithaca, NY, and works in Ithaca.  At a mtg, she heard how Cornell Un. will reopen this Fall....bringing the students back on campus.  Seems the WSJ had the info too....article written by the Prez and provost.  It deals with student behavior/testing/off campus living, etc....all wrt to the pandemic.  Worth reading.

On posts being removed: Yes -- when someone says "I'm done talking about this" and then comes back with another post that includes a pitch for a treatment for COVID, yeah, I'm going to delete it and then any response to it.

Also, reposting something that you know was removed is a good way to get banned.

No need to ban me. I don't want to be part of any site that allows people to be called names, as I've been, and doesn't remove it, and allows political posts and posts citing medical literature to remain. But, arbitrarily decides to delete posts with medical literature relevant to the covid-19 impact on school openings and sports, that he doesn't agree with. Nothing rude, threatening, vulgar in my post, just some facts because I was called a quack. And another post you allow to remain implies that people will die from then drugs I discussed. So, you can ban me if you want. No matter, I will not be posting further. And you'll likely remove this post, because you've exposed yourself as a very small person by your actions.

Honestly, CF -- have been moderating this message board for nearly 22 years, so you can say what you like and it won't really bother me. With me having moderated out probably a thousand posts over that time, I don't think you could actually support that conclusion. You've likely only observed a super small sliver of anything I've actually said or done on the boards.

If you're insistent on not posting again, will gladly watch you delete your account.

Interesting development ... the Ivies just announced a spring only, league only football season for 2021.  Any reason the NESCAC should not follow suit, especially since NESCAC only plays league games?   Please don't screw this up, NESCAC presidents!

Pat Coleman

The NESCAC is one conference which could pull this off. I think there will be some questions from people as to whether playing a spring 2020 season of nine games followed by a fall 2020 season of nine games with just 16 or so weeks off in between is a good idea for the student-athletes, but will defer to the medical professionals on that.

The powers that be in the Ivy League released a statement this morning regarding fall sports. Looks like decision day is July 8th. https://twitter.com/ivyleague/status/1278308623093923842?s=21

Trinity emailed alums today regarding its reopening plans.

I think the pertinent segment for sports is this:

It's clear that the fall (and likely winter) season of athletic competition will not occur as usual. We will have significantly fewer, if any, competitions in the fall, but we are aiming for physically distanced practices for in- and out-of-season sports and activities to engage our athletes. Our Athletics Department (administrators and coaches alike) has been extremely creative in determining how to engage scholar-athletes during this nontraditional fall season. And we are grateful that their creativity also is informing how to return gradually to other close-contact activities, such as dance. We will keep you informed over the summer, as plans for athletics continue to take shape. (emphasis mine)

Amherst has joined Bowdoin and Williams in cancelling fall intercollegiate sports.
