Interesting development ... the Ivies just announced a spring only, league only football season for 2021.  Any reason the NESCAC should not follow suit, especially since NESCAC only plays league games?   Please don't screw this up, NESCAC presidents!

Couldn't agree more.

It's good to see that some aren't interested in eating their young. I'd love to have games to watch, but...........

If some seniors take the semester off and play next year, will the roster be increased for the year? If not, how will the schools be able to recruit freshman to begin in the fall 2021? Seems to me they might have to increase rosters to 85-90 for one year.

My guess is they will have to increase the roster size. Remember, there was a movement afoot among many of the schools to increase the roster size prior to the pandemic anyway.

Will be interesting to see if so how large they do expand it to. Another one of the many challenges facing the school's athletic departments and coaches. Not to mention players and parents.

I will guess that the NESCAC will get creative and increase roster size in a way that makes sense. The conference already determined that winter sports (should they play at all) will be allowed to begin practice on October 15th, as opposed to the usual Nov. 1 start date. This to me shows that they are willing to work around their usual limitations.

Wesleyan cancels all fall sports. Bowdoin, Williams, Amherst, and Wesleyan have now all canceled fall sports, likely ending any real possibility of fall NESCAC sports.

Wow.  Stanford, which is (or I guess was) to the Director's Cup in D1 what Williams is in D3, is discontinuing ELEVEN varsity sports.  If it can happen at Stanford, one of the richest schools in the country and one with a tremendous history of athletics success, it can happen anywhere.  Not a promising development ...

One thing I learned from this release: synchronized swimming is a varsity college sport.  Who knew??

As for NESCAC, I think the future may soon be dim for very expensive sports at schools that lack easy-to-access facilities on campus: skiing, golf, rowing in particular.  Hopefully I'm wrong, but some cutbacks seem highly likely in this financial environment, even for the wealthiest schools.

I was curious too.  It's not an NCAA sport and there are only 5 "varsity" teams.  There's another 20 some club teams and all they all compete against each other in an event run by the olympic committee.  So it seems likely the program will continue at Stanford and they'll just have to fund their own travel expenses like most of the teams do.
