Tufts has a chance to basically sweep all of the major spring sports with baseball, softball, men's and women's lax(already won league), and both tennis teams competing for titles this weekend. Has this ever happened before? Guessing Williams maybe has done it at some point but not sure?

Looking more and more like there will be a football season!!....this Fall.
On the Bowdoin website....the Polar Bears have announced three new Asst. Football coaches hires...for the upcoming Fall season.

Jonny Utah

U Hartford dropping to d3 (rare but interesting move).  Not Nescac bound obviously but throws another team into the mix for New England d3 sports.  Wondering if they would ever get a football team and I don't see any reasons why they wouldn't?

Not only an asterisk but very unlikely when you look at who they are up against in each game. With that being said, it's about time Tufts started punching up to their weight.

Seems any "sweep" by Tufts is moot.  Amherst won in baseball at Tufts and Wes ladies won the tennis title.

Questions about 2021 Fall NESCAC Football Season. First, it's great to see that the NESCAC got a spring sports seasons in, albiet abbreviated and with attendance restrictions. A month or so ago, I was seriously wondering if there would even be a 2021 NESCAC football season. Now, happily, it's pretty clear that there will be a 2021 NESCAC football season. However, there are still questions that I haven't seen answered officially, partially addressed officially or even speculated upon officially.  The 2021 NESCAC football schedule hasn't been announced yet (as far as I know). In past years, the schedule has certainly been announced by this point. This is prompting me to ask: Will the 2021 NESCAC football season be NESCAC football as we know it? By that I mean:
1. Will the 2021 NESCAC football schedule be a full schedule or an abbreviated schedule?
2. Will 2021 NESCAC football schedules be reduced to divisional play, like the spring sports did? For example, Maine schools will play a northern New England schedule, while Connecticut schools play a southern New England schedule
3. If the answer to the above two questions is yes or even maybe, will NESCAC football teams (if they so choose), play independent games against local (non-NESCAC) D3s?
4. Will there be attendance restrictions at 2021 NESCAC football games?
5. Will there be tailgating restrictions at 2021 NESCAC football games?

rfd1283....welcome aboard :). First...tooo many questions.   Second...topic is Football...expect a Full season....ONLY or no season.
My daughter lives near Ithaca NY.....an area with lots of college students and expects vaccines will be available to almost everyone shortly.
Expect the other NE states will follow accordingly.....so expect on campus students will get their shots....implying games will have/allow people in the stands...etc., etc.
Interesting "handle" .....explanation?

Trinity announced their schedule last week and since it includes all other NESCAC schools I'm assuming everyone is on board for now.

Trinity officially announced it's 2021 schedule today!

Attendance and tailgating restrictions will likely be handled on a school by school basis. My guess based on the loosening of government imposed restrictions and guidelines is that both would be allowed by the fall, but it's impossible to know for sure. Welcome to the Board!
NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

Considering that nearly every student and staff member at NESCAC schools is going to be vaccinated by the fall (at many if not all NESCAC schools, it will be mandatory absent a medical or religious hardship), and that football games are outdoors and generally so sparsely attended relative to the size of the viewing area that social distancing is easy to accomplish, I'd be stunned if fans are unable to attend the games.  Maybe there will be some attendance limitations, but again, that's really not going to be an issue at all but a few (if any) games throughout the season.

Tailgating is already fairly tightly regulated at most schools, I believe, due to underage drinking laws; maybe that could be further curtailed.  But barring an unexpected early fall resurgence in COVID in New England, there is really no reason to prevent attendance at outdoor sporting events.

I worry a bit more about winter sports, because if there is a COVID resurgence, it would likely peak during league basketball and hockey season, and of course those sports are indoors and at some schools (like Bates) the spectating areas are really tightly packed.  I could imagine some tight restrictions like attendance limits, mask requirements, and maybe proof of vaccination to attend those events.  But that's a long time away so impossible to predict ...

Read somewhere today....the WSJ? or on the web? that all NE states have 16 and above persons can get vaccine shots.  In NY state the vaccines will be available to even lower age groups early this Summer...June.  My granddaughter...in 9th grade this Fall will arrive to spend sometime in Md...with her grandparents..mother side :) soon after.  Expect this Fall that vaccines for any variants will appear.  My classmates online have an ongoing discussion on the pandemic topic.

From my persecutive on recruiting results the Colby Mules have totally killed it. They have landed a great recruiting class- 4 of their commits were offered by Trinity.......thats a first, incomprehensible in past years.

With the Hammer at Bowdoin throwing boatloads of Twitter 'offers' around indiscrimmantly and Bates operating in the dark Colby will dominate the CBB and will surprise the top level of the conference.

There are great coaches and great recruiters throughout the NESCAC but Cosgroves credentials trump all of them. A widely respected D1 coach dropping down to D3 combined with a new D1 level athletic facility, relaxed admissions guidelines and a strong overall institutional commitment to athletics will yield results.

Don't sleep on the Mules.

I don't get your point about throwing offers around indiscriminately on Twitter.  Those listed on the Bowdoin coaches' Twitter accounts are the incoming freshmen that have already accepted offers to become part of the football program this upcoming Fall.  Twitter is a marketing tool and serves to highlight each of the incoming group with clips from Hudl for a number of them.   Current players are also recognized when they receive internships as well.  Players and their parents like to see when they get recognition.  It also reinforces  that Bowdoin is place when players can get a great education and reap the opportunities that come along with that education.  As the coaching staff casts a wide net to attract players from both the traditional NESCAC recruiting areas and beyond, it is all about marketing.

I'm well versed on Twitter and social media and how these platforms function in the NESCAC recruiting process.

My comments have nothing to do with the announcement of the Bowdoin Class of 2025 currently on Twitter or recognition of internships etc.  The postings the Bears are presenting now are standard practice in the NESCAC.

My comments pertain to the countless "offers" (over 100) which were announced or "liked" on Twitter by the Bowdoin staff throughout the recruiting season. I have expressed these thoughts previously on the board.

How may kids can a coaching staff realistically and honestly "support in the admissions process" when they have 14 TIPS.

i still don't see your point.  Saying that they have x or y number of slots available is pretty meaningless coming out of the pandemic shut down.  How many seniors or players from other classes will return for the fall season, and how many may have landed other places that played football this spring is a bit of a crap shoot.  Some of the other posters have suggested that the conference player limits for the upcoming season maybe greater than in the past to address seniors returning for an extra term.  When  I looked at the twitter feeds of some of the Bowdoin coaching staff, I didn't see any offers being made on social media.  Given the top notch facilities at Bowdoin, the coaching staff which seems to be a mix of new and existing coaches, finding good players that fit both the offensive and defensive schemes is a logical step in upgrading the  program.   Whether there are 75, 85 or 100 player roster limits, you want those players  to be able to contribute to improving the program.  Recruiting during the pandemic could not have been easy since many of the tools that are normally part of the process weren't available. I have no doubt that the coaches at Bowdoin and all the NESCAC schools had to work doubly hard this last year with the few tools they had.  Simply sitting around and waiting for the white smoke to come from the chimney won't get it done.
