We waited two years for games to return and have spent the week after Week 1 arguing Bowdoin recruiting, Trinity academics, and NESCACMAN. Can't make this stuff up
SPOILER ALERT You're new here, so sorry to burst your bubble, but this is what we do.  We haven't really gotten into coach bashing yet, but it's only a matter of time.  We'll have a drive by shooting by guys from the Liberty League or Empire 8 Board, the traditional debate about uniforms, mascots, and who has the worst President in the 'CAC.  Almost certainly a debate about whether punters and kickers are indeed football players.  Someone will bring up the list of former CAC players who went on to play in the NFL or CFL (it's a short list) and we will take sides.

Johnny Utes will come up with a sly observation that will make us all smile and go "Whoa! Johnny can still bring it!"  If we are lucky, an ex coach will stop by, take exception to something one of us said, and wave his penis in our collective faces.  Homage will be paid to Darp, and we will keep track of HCOF Kelton's progress in D1.

In mid-November the ritual lamenting about playoffs and post-season play will ensue.  We may no longer marvel at the novelty of night games, but I hope not.  Tweaking the nose of Trin 7-2 and sh*tting on the Obnoxious New Guy (the name and persona change each year, but he appears every year in some new guise, often a parent from Joisey who is not-so-subtly boasting about his kid, and upset that the coach can't see he's the best player in the history of the conference), and some older guy who tries to match the venom (often Jumpshot but not always).  We love to see that amh63 is still walking this earth, and more sprightly and coherent than our POTUS.   (If you didn't know, amh was one of Lord Jeffrey's original crew, who handed out the blankets to the Indigenous Peoples).

This board is like that sofa in your mom's house where you watched the Macy's parade before the big feast every Turkey Day.  A little thread bare, a little stained, with who-knows-what prizes lurking in the cushions, but comfortable and homey AF.

This is us.  It's what we do.  Welcome.

Ive looked at those numbers for years. Its an accounting nightmare- nothing is audited, these numbers are manipulated. It's joke- operating expenses, versus Football expenses versus revenue!!!! Nothing standardized, no standard accounting procedures or guidelines from school to school. Of course Middlebury only spends $49,000 on Football and the revenue of Trinity Football is 1.16 mil.

There are stringent accounting standards in the Ivies for all schools which are nothing like this.

lumbercat

I wouldn't get hung up on overnight trips, it's not a big factor.
The issue here is how the colleges charge the various expenses associated with the Football programs. Some schools charge Football payroll to other departments within the college like faculty. What you are seeing here is an accounting hodgepodge that varies from school to school depending on how they set up their athletic departments.
I gotta get some of these NESCAC staff accountant and fiancé people to do my taxes. This aint the IRS. There is no audit of this.

Maybe the finest post in years on this board. Polarcats finest hour without a doubt.

A nice write-up on Andrus Field's history from the Wes Athletics Dept. Didn't realize Wes was so highly ranked in D3 attendance (do they count all passers-by?) - numbers are given about ¾ through the article.

I played at Andrus back in the early 70's in front of big crowds and enjoyed it immensely as the crowds were intense and electric. In 1970, we suffered our only loss of the year by 1 as we lost a fumble on the Wes 1 yard line gong in for the winning score. Despite that, I have fond memories of playing in such a unique setting. I hope they play there forever.

I've been posting for 2 years and reading for 5, but otherwise good post.

BigKat

Besides the odoriferous plume that you encounter all around the Wes field and the actual field where the grass is up to your knees, I will admit its a pretty cool take for a game. I think Williams is better but def top 3 in the 'Cac.

Thank you, Polarcat!!!  No better summary of this board has ever been offered.

Perfect.

The Mole

Let's back to the games...serious questions to ponder

Colby @ Amherst: Mules are improved, are the Mammoths going to get sandbagged at home? Most interesting game this week
Bates @ Middlebury: Will (get it) they bounce back and/or are the Bobcats better than thought?
Bowdoin @ Trinity: What is the real line on this one--31.5? Asking for a friend.
Hamilton @ Wesleyan: Are the Cards over rated? There will be a tailgate at location TBD....
Williams @ Tufts: Another elephant sized W for the guys in purple ?

Best wishes and luck to all, hoping for health and great contests
TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

JEFFFAN

Based on Vegas odds (!), this might be the weakest slate for the entire season.   The Colby vs Amherst game would likely be the closest game for the day.

SpringSt7

If you want to know how weak this slate really is, I looked up Bates and Middlebury's all-time head-to-head because I had this incorrect memory that Bates always played Middlebury close, most likely of the 35-34 Midd win in 2018. The results surprised me so I also looked up the all time head-to-heads of Amherst/Colby, Bowdoin/Trinity, and Wesleyan/Hamilton.

Since 1998 (farthest the archives could go), Amherst, Middlebury, Trinity, and Wesleyan are a combined 70-1 against Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, and Hamilton.

I think folks are sleeping a bit too much on Tufts at home, opening a new field.  There is certainly a good amount of talent on the roster ... week one may reflect more that Trinity's offense is just that loaded.  Williams is a clear favorite there but hardly an overwhelming one.  I

SpringSt, that stat is absolutely nuts.  Just shows that bashing a coach of a Maine team is kinda silly ... the odds are stacked against them year after year no matter who is running the show.  I continue to think that the job Harriman did at Bates is wildly underrated.  Put Farley, Priori, Siedlicki, Devanney, Mills, Raymond, etc in charge of those programs, they still would not break .500 most years.
