That may help explain the paucity of PA recruits.  Who wants to ball out in a foreign country where the natives not only talk funny but the food sucks?
There's some pretty good pizza in Connecticut.

The Mole

Polar, you know it is a total violation to order a "Philly Cheesesteak" outside the confines of Philly! Pulling out the hoagie moniker is also strong. I highly recommend the Norristown Zep from Eve's and the tomato pie from Corropoleese as well!

I have never missed a meal this is great sh$t !!

Next, we took a look at student-athletes on NESCAC rosters from outside of the Northeast (defined as New England, NY, NJ, PA).

Non-Northeast Student-Athletes on 2021 NESCAC Rosters

1.   Tufts-49
2.   Middlebury-40
3.    Amhurst-33
4.    Bowdoin-27
5.    Wesleyan-23
6.    Colby-18
7.   Hamilton-16
7.   Ephpeoples-16
9.   Hartford State-14
10.   UBates-6
I actually think you have to cut off the "Northeast" part of PA at about the Wawa-Sheetz line... like the Mason-Dixon line, but one that separates people that say "youz" (you, or all of you), "wooder" (water) and judge people on whether or not they get "sauce" (ketchup) on their 4,000 calorie cheesesteaks from those that say "yins" (you, or all of you), "dahntahn" (downtown) and think putting french fries on a pastrami sandwich is normal.  With that, you get +1 Non-NE to Bates, Bowdoin, Hamilton (they have 3, but 2 went to prep schools outside the area, so don't count), Tufts, and Williams.

The Mole

Sheetz/Wawa is a good discussion topic. Wawa being Delco based (Mare of Easttown gives you a good profile) has a strong Philly following and Sheetz being central PA based dominates Harrisburg and stronger upstate. Kudos to Rutter's in the York area. Royal Farms is infiltrating with the fried chicken. Atta Boy to Turkey Hill.  I like them all. I do not discriminate.

Pat Coleman

Yikes -- hopefully you've been to others besides the tourist traps of Pat's and Geno's!

(Don't tell anyone -- best Philly cheesesteak I ever had was at a place in Chester, Pa., not far from Widener.)

I'm partial to John's Roast Pork and Joe's Steaks myself.  Yummm.  Both def better than Pat's or Geno's.

Trin9-0

My Trinity roommate, Jamie Creed '04, grew up outside Philly and played at Episcopal Academy. He turned me on to Jim's Steaks on South Street. Unbelievably good.

Creed is also the all-time sack leader at Trinity and coached for several years at EA rival Haverford. He's coming up Friday for Trinity Homecoming and I will be sure to get his take on the impact of PA recruits in the NESCAC.

I second the Jim's recommendation. The best.

All great spots. (Pat I am thinking you were at Liberty). Pudge's in Norristown/East Norriton have great cheesesteaks and hoagies. Tony Luke's has deadly roast pork and chicken cutlets. Collegeville Italian Bakery (a mile away from Ursinus) is a must stop for those in town--great sandwiches and pizza. Owner used to coach baseball at Widener.

Thanks for sharing the info on your roommate 8-0, EA is a great school. Their Haverford rivalry is bloodthirsty. Would love to get his take on Philly in NESCAC.

Very interested this week to see Tufts @ Amherst (can Jumbos start 0-3?), Hamilton @ Colby (Mules are the better team) and Middlebury @ Trinity scores.

As a recent gatekeeper of non football discussion, this food conversation has been lovely.

JEFFFAN

If you want the best cheesesteak in Philly, don't even think about Genos or Pats.   The two best are Johns Roast Pork and Dallessandros, the latter being a mile from the Interac school Penn Charter.  Jim's is very good as well.

I believe he was instrumental in getting former All-NESCAC WR, and Haverford alum, A.J. Jones '14 to choose Trinity.

Dallesandro's is excellent. 1970s throwback. Be ready for the line and cash only! If you cannot bear the wait, Chubby's across the street ain't too shabby either. FWIW it is my son's favorite spot

Great to see another outside-the-nine-dots discussion topic here.

Adding to Big CAC's astute macaroni and gravy observation:  Have you ever tried to find a decent hoagie or cheese steak in NESCAC land?  (Yeah I know lumber has a dive in Medford he likes, but he's a native New Englander so his opinion doesn't count).  And a decent slice of Shoo Fly Pie?  Fuggedabout it.

That may help explain the paucity of PA recruits.  Who wants to ball out in a foreign country where the natives not only talk funny but the food sucks?

(Big CAC left out another Joisey trope.  Hard to feel at home when you're wearing the only wifebeater on campus).

Not only did we leave out the "wifebeater" (aka "derogatory Italian slang name T"), we also left out the lack of Taylor Ham (or pork roll, if you are south of 195) north of Mahwah...

Best Philly Cheesesteak in Philly is Jim's, hands down....there is just something about ordering from an ex-con who killed his family 30 years ago....can't believe Hs5-4 (Matt) and I agree for the second time this season...unprecedented!

Best Philly Cheesesteak outside of Philly is A&LP in North Wildwood, NJ (Philly South)....
