Speaking of Rainy Days.....The weather will be a factor regardless of the outcome.....

Was saving this for a rainy day but because the game has started to be mentioned a little bit---Raymond kind of has Devanney's number.

With the obvious caveat that every year is different and each team is different, especially after a year off,

2019:
Trinity Average Offense: 384.3 yards per game
Trinity Scoring Offense: 30.8 points per game
vs. Williams: 256 yards, 15 points (L)

2018:
Trinity Average Offense: 464.3 yards per game
Trinity Scoring Offense: 36.0 points per game
@ Williams: 436 yards, 16 points (L)

2017:
Trinity Average Offense: 413.3 yards per game
Trinity Scoring Offense: 33.9 points per game
vs. Williams: 275 yards, 17 points (W)

There are plenty of caveats and explanations that are probably fair and worth bringing up if I was a Trinity fan but it's interesting to see that for 3 straight seasons the best offense in the league has been held to 16 points a game.

Another fun note for Saturday's Trinity-Williams tilt; the all-time series between the two is currently all tied up at 38-38-2.

Where is Polarcat on this conversation- he'd make a satirical killing with this. As he approaches last call I think we might hear from him.

Actually feeling pretty blase about the whole thing.  I spent Sunday at Gillette with Polar Kitten and the Bob Cub watching to see if a certain illustrious NESCAC scion (Mullet Boy) would make any intriguing facial contortions.  Much more interesting to me than the question of where the stripes belong on the uniform, or what cheers were popular with slutty townie girls who were pressed into service as NESCAC cheerleaders in the 19th century.

(Speaking of cheerleaders, the Pats have two male cheerleaders this season.  Hmmmm....  My apologies in advance if any of your sons - or any of you - dream of waving pom poms with glitter in your hair, but to this dinosaur it just felt odd).

Regarding the Bowdoin uniform suggestions: Binary color combinations - like binary student bodies - are so last century.  Forget what some troglodyte in the SIO says; Bowdoin's official colors are white ... and black ... and brown ... and yellow ... .and purple ... and pink ... and whatever color Megan Rapinoe's hair is this week.  Does anyone who has met Clayton Rose think he would ever allow the team to be called the Bowdoin White Privilege?  I think we're more likely to see the Rainbow Warriors instead.

Sorry.  That's all I got.

It's easy to see which of the Belichick kids missed out on a NESCAC education. Brian, who's also on the Patriots staff is Trinity Class of '16 and played lacrosse (and football (briefly). Amanda graduated from Wesleyan in 2007 and played lacrosse. She also coached the women's team at Wes for a few years. Stephen meanwhile attended Rutgers and played lacrosse and one year of football.

Speaking of cheerleaders, the only NESCAC school (to our knowledge) that currently has a full-time football cheerleading squad is Wesleyan (and, we might add, they take their craft very seriously)...and Polar, you'll be glad to know they have one less male cheerleader than the Pats (shockingly)...

BTW, like you, we have limited interest in the uniform discussion as long as a certain team doesn't go back to the Pseudo-Ravens look alike uniform that they wore in the Pre-Whales/Dice era...fortunately, that was one of many changes (big and small) that they enacted when they arrived in 2010 and re-built (or built, depending on who you ask) the Wes football program from the ashes...

Trinity has had cheerleaders on and off over the years but there is currently a Bantam cheer squad for home football and basketball games.

Cheerleaders and a band are a must for College games just a great touch. No reason these schools should not have one. I dont even care if they perform at halftime just sit in the stands and play it really lends to game atmosphere.

PolarCat

While I'm with you in theory, I've been to games where there weren't enough students - musical or otherwise - in the stands to form a trio let alone a Band.

Whatever happened to AUPep?  His brainchild (The Alfred University Kazoo Band) would be workable in the CAC, and you wouldn't have to be a tuition paying student to join in the fun.

Thanks Spring, looking forward to having a beer or six with you in Willyville in a few weeks...definitely will hoist a few for our dear, departed friend Renzie...hopefully, Coach Farley will be around to hang-out with us...

As far as the spreads, the idea, as we understand it, based on some reading we did on odds making is to set the spread so that you end up at around the .500 winning percentage and let the $$$ falling where it will and clean-up on the stupid prop bets (which are all sucker bets) so I'd say we're doing more than OK...

How did we end up doing picks and spreads....a brief history lesson on the weekly NESCACMAN pics and the spreads...as many of you know we have been picking weekly winners/losers and predicting scores of every NESCAC football game since 2013...in 2018/2019, one of "youse" guys wanted to wager on particular game and challenged us to also set a spread for all the games, so, of course, we started doing that as well...believe it or not, some of our readers (and other NESCAC "friends"-for the record, no active coaches or players are involved at all) occasionally will wager a shekel or three with us using our spreads...makes things definitely interesting...we are doing pretty well on those wagers this year FYI...thank you Bowdoin, Amhurst, Wes, Tufts, and UBates...

2021 NESCACMAN Weekly Power Rankings-Week 6

What we learned in Week #6:

1. Congratulations to Jumbos on their first win since 2019.
2. The top 3 hold serve; Game 1 of the 3-game round robin tourney starts this weekend.
3. Colby may have unlocked some of the secrets to beat the vaunted Hartford State offense. We're sure the Purple Cows and the Cards were paying close attention.
4. MID's continues to underperform offensively.
5. Ephs only team in the NESCAC with more rushing yards than passing yards; only 2 teams with over 1,000 yards passing and receiving (Ephs and Cards).
6. Going for it on 4th down? Don't do it against Wes...they have not allowed a first down all season on 4th down (0 for 12).
7. Hartford State now the most penalized team in the league; will that come back to haunt them?
8. Purple Cows have scored at an incredible rate of 95.8% (23-24) in the red zone. Middlebury, conversely, is 8 for 22.
9. Tufts has allowed an amazingly bad 406.7 yards per game which is a big reason why they are 1-5.
10. Wes continues to draw well...2,500 while students were on break...big reason is the outreach they have done in the community attracting non-Wesleyan fans from the Middletown area to their games. They could set attendance  records their last 2 home games if the weather cooperates and they keep winning.
11. 2022 league schedule will be same as 2019 (also same as 2021 but reverse home/away).

This weeks rankings:

1). (Tie) TTUN (2021 Record: 6-0; Last Week Rank: 1): Another blowout win for the Ephs who now have the second longest winning streak in the league...Starting defense has been strong; UBates scored 2 TDs on 2nd/3rd string...Rank 2nd in scoring offense and 1st in rushing offense...lead league in sacks...next up: v. Hartford State

1). (Tie) Hartford State (2021 Record: 6-0; LW Rank: 1): Another blowout win for the Bants after a first-half scare...scored 35 points in the second half to pull away...1st in scoring offense, scoring defense, total offense, total offense, rushing defense, and passing offense...4th in league in rushing offense...only averaging 3.5 yards per rush...next up: @ TTUN

3). (Tie) Wesleyan (2021 Record: 6-0; LW Rank: 3): Cards with a big win at home against the Pants...longest winning streak in the NESCAC (9 games)...have won 14 of their last 15 games...Another strong game by QB David Estevez...1st shutout since Bowdoin in a monsoon at home in 2018; game was played at Citrin due to unplayable field conditions on Andrus (1st shutout on Andrus since beating the Ephs 35-0 in 2017)...2nd in total offense, rushing offense, rushing defense, and interceptions ...QBs have thrown 15 TDs (2nd most in the league) versus only 3 INTs...2nd best in the league as far as 3rd down conversions allowed...next up: v. Amhurst

4). Amhurst (2021 Record: 4-2; LW Rank: 6): Lord Mammoths bounce back against a Hamilton team that is frankly, not very good...very tough traditional end of the season stretch facing three unbeaten teams who are combined 18-0...defense playing well; 3rd in the NESCAC in scoring defense...offense has been a bit challenged; 5th in scoring (just ahead of UBates) and 7th in yards...QB situation a bit unsettled having played 3 guys there...passing offense is 9th in the league...they are 2 for 8 in field goals...next up: @ Wesleyan

5). Colby (2021 Record: 2-4; LW Rank: 4): Tough loss after promising first half vs. Hartford State...out of the basement and 9th in scoring offense thanks to the woeful Pants...last in total offense and rushing offense...up and down team; which version shows up in Lewiston for the first leg of the 2022 C-B-B???...next up: @ UBates

6). Bowdoin (2021 Record: 1-5; LW Rank: 5): Expected the game against the Jumbo's to be more competitive as Tufts pulled away in the 2nd half...Actually outgained the Jumbo's......Polars have only allowed 7 sacks good for 2nd best in the NESCAC...last in intercepting the ball with only 3...winnable game this week...next up: @ Middlebury

7). Tufts (2021 Record: 1-5; LW Rank: 10): Congratulations to HCOF Civetti on win #1 in 2021...legitimate shot to go 4-5 in 2021...4th in scoring offense and 3rd in total offense...last in total defense and last in rushing defense...need a new kicker for 2022; 14/19 on extra points and 2 of 8 on field goals...last in 3rd down conversions allowed...next up: @ Hamilton

8). University of Bates (Lewiston Campus)(2021 Record: 1-5; LW Rank: 8): Lost at home to the Purple Cows...9th in points allowed, 9th in rushing offense, 9th in passing defense, and 9th in third down conversions...next up: v. Colby

9). Hamilton (2021 Record: 2-4; LW Rank: 9): Another loss as they drop their third straight...9th in total offense, 8th in total defense, 8th in rushing defense, 9th in rushing defense, last in passing offense...not sure FY Cairns is the answer at QB...have allowed 22 sacks (tied for last in the league)...only 4 sacks by them in 6 games...next up: v. Tufts

10). Middlebury (2021 Record: 1-5; LW Rank: 7): Another loss (this time to Wes) in a season the Middlebury faithful would like to soon forget........"First to worst"......last in scoring, last in passing efficiency, last in interceptions by them, only 5 TD passes for the season, lead league in sacks allowed with 22 and 3 for 23 on 4th down...next up: v. Bowdoin
