Blumenauer hired to lead F&M football.  Definitely a loss for the Ephs:

Huge Loss he recruited Freeman and built up that OL. In addition new QB this year going to feel the growing pains this year. I think will be tough to find a replacement. I think Wesleyan and Williams dealt major blows in Coaching ranks.

Following the Coyne to Bates announcement I was thinking about how surprising it was that Raymond's staff was still almost entirely intact from Day 1. Blumenauer is a massive loss---would've been a massive loss under any circumstance but when you consider that Bobby Maimaron's replacement will also be working with a new coordinator, that all of a sudden becomes a big pill to swallow.

Good hire by F&M.....loss for the Ephs...

Thought he would have waited for a NESCAC HCOF spot....maybe he applied for the UBates spot and didn't get it? We would say the next NESCAC HCOF spots to open up will be either Colby or Hamilton, based on the age of the HCOFs...

I think the right move he won NESCAC championship. There is not more to accomplish. He probably felt staying in NESCAC to play one solid game against Trinity a year there is more he wants to accomplish. Why take the Hamilton or Colby job unless you are ready for retirement. These two schools or bottom tier because of admissions and a bunch of other criteria and will never win a football championship. Coach Blu had aspirations of becoming a Head Coach and who knows if he turns F&M around maybe ready for the next jump after that. He is a young talented coach and players love him. It is the next progression. I think Coyne's tenor at Bates will be short look for a quick rebound of that program and by that I mean a .500 record and he will be moving on as well.

I find it odd so far that Wesleyan lost one ( Coyne) , Amherst two if you count Coach Banks in the figure and Waltrous leaving to Middlebury and now Coach Blu at Williams. Why is it that Trinity never seems to loose any Coordinators or position coaches.

Really impressed that Charlie somehow managed to mention Blumenauer choosing F&M over waiting for a NESCAC job without even coming close to mentioning the playoffs.

Word to the wise....with a committed AD and aligned Prez, Colby will make the leap to at least the mid-tier over the next few years. All you have have to do is look at the athletic facilities they have built ant what they are doing with admissions (in particular, SOCs) and the direction of the program is obvious, at least to us.

Couldn't agree more NMan. Ive been saying that for about a year here. Was thinking there might be an echo in here.

We're with ya Lumber....as we discussed last fall, we had a chance to spend some time in Waterville with Mules AD Mike Wisecup and we were very impressed....we think they are moving directionally correct...

Apparently Tufts players got told last week that D-Coordinator Kevin Farr won't be back next year. They were  told it was a family decision but can't help but think last years performance wasn't a factor. New hire has already been made so will be interesting to see who that is once they announce.

Hawk196

If Tufts can improve on Defense and have a similar offensive year (Frosh QB was pretty good), then they will surprise this year.

If Blumenthal thought Trinity was tough, just wait until Johns Hopkins puts 50 points on the board against F&M.

I could not agree more there  two DT were studs and deserved more acclaim. They should have beaten Williams Home last year. Tufts defense was the problem all year. I also heard from a few HS Coaches that there local recruitment in Massachusetts was poor. Tufts for some odd reason starts recruiting hard around Thanksgiving. Why they wait so long is bizarre. I guess Farr was the local recruiter. So with a DC this team could be more competitive than last year.

Have not followed the NESCAC very closely but when did they start having spring practice?

Nice to see that ex Bates QB Brendan Costa was invited to the NFL combine, just finished up 2 days in Indianapolis. Doubtful that any thing might develop with the NFL but a great experience for the kid.

NescacFam

According to his twitter, it looks like Costa participated in the National Scouting Combine, not the NFL Combine: Great couple of days in Indianapolis at the @NSCombine, grateful for the chance to be able to showcase what I can do on the football field at a high level combine, doesn't matter your division, if you can play you can play

Either way, we will be rooting for him. He is a hell of a quarterback and a tough competitor.

If you look at their last couple of classes it looks like they are focusing more on recruiting out of the northeast. So boston area kids probably taking a backseat which might explain the late recruiting. A lot of kids from the south and west coast coming in. Probably Civetti using their location as an advantage to get out of state kids that wouldn't want to go to middle of nowhere main.
