Good info Mole....we believe our old friend, Hs0-8, has published similar information in the past but always good to have a history lesson and reminder of why we do what we do (you know what we're talking about)...

We're more about "what have you done for me lately" so would love to see the combined records the last 10 years (including this year)...easy enough to do.... our sense is that Hartford State, Middlebury, and Wesleyan would probably be the top 3 teams since the Purple Cows and Amhurst had some down periods thrown in there...

See you tomorrow AM...tell your son to keep up the good work!!!

I heard an interesting tidbit of information. Rumor has it that if Wesleyan and Trinity meet for championship in all likelihood and if Wesleyan wins That DC for Wesleyan Chicoine will be offered HC job at Bowdoin.

Source tells me he has brought the Colby defense along up to his departure knows the intricacies of admissions coming from Colby & Wesleyan plus lends credibility if they win this year. Not sure if I believe a great deal of the assertions but want to share.

Sadly the Mules had a 4 year drought vs Bats (2014-2017) with each game decided by less than 1 score....

Amazing to see how the trajectory of these programs has evolved over the past decade though. Tufts has two long forgotten winless seasons in this sample and Williams has the back half of the Kelton era + one fallout year.  Despite their challenges this year, hard to think that the Purple Cows will struggle much going forward. I also think Cosgrove has really righted the ship in Waterville now that there is institutional buy-in, which Michaeles did not benefit from.

On the flip side, sounds like Amherst is heading in the wrong direction fast...

Not sure we buy into any of these rumors but we will tell you that we have been impressed by Coach Sheeks...he's done a great job following UBates HCOF Coyne as the Cards D Coordinator...he's enthusiastic, smart, has the buy-in and support of his players, understands NESCAC football and has embraced the Wes football culture...he definitely deserves a shot in this league as an HCOF at some point...

We'd also like to give a shout out to Wes' other new coaches: Dave Benoit (QB Coach/Passing Game Coordinator), Quentin "Coach Q" Jones (D-Line), and Kyle Weiss '12 (RBs) all of whom have done a terrific job coaching Wesleyan's great group of student-athletes. Thank you for all you do!!!

Great work by Coach Dice assembling an awesome staff.

2022 Week #6 NESCACMAN Picks

Welcome back NESCAC...It's Week #6 in the league where they "pay to play"...after last week's exceptional slate of games, this week the schedule seems weak to us...the Middlebury Panthers v University of Bates (Lewiston Campus) Bobkitties game is the most interesting game to us...

Colby College White Mules (3-2) at Hamilton College Continentals (2-3): We expect a low scoring affair as the #8 offense faces the #10 offense...both teams 2-1 against the Little 3...Colby looking for their first win on the road...Keys to Victory ("KTV") for Colby: Let their defense set the tone...Force Hamilton to pass; the Colby defense leads the NESCAC in interceptions...control the clock and grind it out...KTV for Hamilton: Get a pass rush and protect the QB...score twice; two TDs may win the game...Stop Colby in the red zone which is something they have not done to anyone all year...we think the first team to 14 points wins...we think Colby's offense is slightly better than the Continentals with more stability at QB and that is the difference in this one...

Colby 14 Hamilton 10

Point Spread: Pick
Weather (weather courtesy of The Weather Channel): Mainly sunny. High of 68.

Wesleyan University Cardinals (4-1) at Bowdoin College Polar Bears (1-4): Bowdoin on a 4 game losing streak face Wesleyan on Family Day in Brunswick...Wes has won 3 in a row and has scored 26 or more points in 4 of their 5 games in leading the NESCAC in scoring...Wes is #2 in total offense and #2 in total defense...Wes leads the league in sacks (14) and Bowdoin has allowed the most sacks (13)...Bowdoin is only 9 for 18 in the red zone...Wes has won the last 9 meetings (11 of the last 12) including the last 4 in Brunswick...Wes can't let this be a trap game and look past the Polars...KTV for Wesleyan: Pressure Boel and force him to turn over the ball...mix it up on offense and let their weapons (Estevez, Tomlinson, Simco, Wilson, Sanchez, Candido et al) go wild on the Polars...stop Bowdoin's Max Jacobs and Drew Ortiz on defense...KTV for Bowdoin: Need to run the ball with Eden and control the clock to keep the ball away from Wesleyan and top receiver and reigning NESCAC OPOTW Logan Tomlinson (Happy Birthday #3!)...avoid the turnover...put pressure on the Wesleyan QBs...we think Wes has too much firepower to be contained by Bowdoin...another 30 point plus game for Wes and they win going away...

Wesleyan 31 Bowdoin 17
Point Spread: Wesleyan -6
Weather: Sunny skies. High of 62.

Amwurst College Lord Mammoths (0-5) at Tufts University Jumbo's (3-2): Tufts needs to run the table to keep any chance of winning the NESCAC alive...Amwurst has won the last 4 meetings between these teams and Tufts hasn't beat the Lord Mammoths in Medford since 2007...3 of the last 4 games between these teams have been decided by less than once score...Tufts QB Berluti leads the NESCAC in passing and is 11th in the nation in passing efficiency...Jumbo's are 6th in the nation passing offense...Amwurst defense is not horrible (#3 in the league) but their offense is having only scored 6 TDs all year...Amwurst QB Piazza might be OK but he's not getting much help from his supporting cast...Tufts offense is #1 in the NESCAC and will be tough for Amhurst to contain.. Amwurst has locked in their second losing season in the last 3 seasons...What's the problem in Blanketville??? Is it admissions support? College culture (political correctness run amok, anti-athlete sentiment)? Loss of key coaches? Poor recruiting? Bad game planning and schemes? Lack of a QB and playmakers on offense? Williams being better? A combination of those factors? KTV for Amwurst: Generate some offense for a change...try to contain Berluti and the Jumbo's...KTV for Tufts: Forget about last week's game and execute against the Lord Mammoths...Tufts has way more talent than the Lord Mammoths right now...we think Tufts wins by at least 2 touchdowns...we think the Amwurst defense keeps this at least respectable...

Tufts 24 Amwurst 10
Point Spread: Tufts -13
Weather: Sunny skies. High of 69.

Williams College Purple Cows (1-4) at Hartford State Bantams (5-0): Hartford State tries to stay ahead in the NESCAC standings...Facing Hartford State is definitely not what Williams needs right now...Hartford State with an opportunity to even their all-time record vs the Purple Cows...Purple Cows on a 3-game losing streak...now Williams is dealing with a slew of injuries....Williams #1 ranked rushing offense vs Hartford State's #1 rushing defense (before injuries)...Williams is last in the NESCAC in passing (only 3 TD passes and 4 INTs) so we pretty much know what they will do...late start for this one so many of us will be able to catch the second half... KTV for Williams: Need to get something going in the air to open up the run...try to make this a low scoring affair to stay in the game...KTV for Hartford State: Hartford State runs the ball well too so we expect them mix it up...Avoid turnovers and stupid penalties which is the only way the Purple Cows stay in this one...We have a hard time imagining a scenario where Hartford State loses to the Purple Cows at home...we would not be surprised to see a shut out by the Bants...we'll give the Purple Cows a TD in garbage time...

Hartford State 28 Williams 7
Point Spread: Hartford State -14
Weather: Sunshine. High of 69.

NESCAC Games of the Week

Middlebury College Panthers (4-1) at University of Bates (Lewiston Campus) College Bobkitties (2-3): Middlebury coming off their first loss of the year...UBates riding a two game winning streak...UBates has not beaten Middlebury since 1988...Reigning DPOTW Senior LB Tony Hooks coming off a monster game against Bowdoin...Middlebury back to their pass first scheme on offense only averages 71.8 yards per game on the ground...KTV for Middlebury: Establish more of a running game to better set-up the pass...protect QB Kennon and let him find WR Wood who leads the NESCAC in receiving TDs...force UBates to turn over the ball...KTV for UBates: Convert when they get inside the redzone (not easy against the Pants)...limit the mistakes...UBates will have to play almost a perfect game to have a shot at this one...HCOF Coyne has the Bobkitties playing better....we think Middlebury, now that they have found another stud QB, is just better than UBates although we think the game could be closer than everyone thinks....

Middlebury 24 UBates (Lewiston Campus) 17
Point Spread: Middlebury -7
Weather: Mainly sunny. High around 65.

Catches: Lutz
TDs: Wood
Yards per catch: Elkhoury

MidDay

Catches: Lutz
TDs: Wood
Yards per catch: Elkhoury
Yards: Lutz

In addition to leading the league in TDs, Wood leads in YPC among the top 19 receivers, is 2nd in yards and 3rd in catches.  Major playmaker.  Won't be surprised if he ends up leading all categories with Maldjian injured at RB and greater emphasis on pass game with Kennon healthy (he was injured in pre-season, though Tauber played very well in his absence for the first three games).

As I understand it, Reid has been battling injuries all year. Unfortunate outcome for what should have been a promising 5th year. But more to the point, it looks like Tomlinson isn't leading the league in ANY category, meanwhile Lutz is top 5 in them all... What say you to that Nescacman?

Catches: Lutz
TDs: Wood
Yards per  catch: Elkhoury
Yards: Lutz

In addition to leading the league in TDs, Wood leads in YPC among the top 19 receivers, is 2nd in yards and 3rd in catches.  Major playmaker.  Won't be surprised if he ends up leading all categories with Maldjian injured at RB and greater emphasis on pass game with Kennon healthy (he was injured in pre-season, though Tauber played very well in his absence for the first three games).

Well Logan is Top 5 in receptions, yards, receiving TDs, receptions per game, and yards per game, has one fewer catch than Lutz but has two more 2 TD catches than Lutz, is the reigning OPOTW (in a head-to-head game vs Lutz...a game in which Logan had more catches, yards and TDs than Lutz), so we'd say Logan's having a pretty good year...no doubt Lutz is an excellent player (from West Essex HS in NJ, we might add) but we'd take Logan any day of the week over the more diminutive Lutz...our vote right now is for Lutz, Tomlinson and Wood as your first team All-NESCAC Receivers for 2022 barring injury...

While we are playing "stat games"...here's an interesting one...looking at the Top 20 in receptions, Tufts has 4 players and Wes, Middlebury and Hartford State each have 3 players in the Top 20...between Williams and Amwurst, they have a combined total of 1 player in the Top 20 in receptions and that player is a RB who we have all heard might be out for the year...
