Playmaker WR Diawara at Bates is a member of the class of '23 and is listed as a graduating senior with his class.
However, he has 2 years of eligibility remaining (Injury year, Covid year)
He is being pursued by several DI programs and is considering those opportunities.

We will be glad when the covid year is no longer in play and we can get a better handle on what's happening with NESCAC programs.

Tufts drops 65 on the "#2" team and you still have them at 4th? Someone must not have been watching the tape. Record-be-damned, Tufts was clearly the second best team in the league. They lost their 3 games by 10 points, and wreaked havoc on both sides of the ball. After watching games around the league all season, they were the clear #2 (can't rightly call them #1 given Trin being undefeated). Midd and Wes are 3 and 4 respectively.

2022 NESCACMAN Final Power Rankings

Here are our FINAL rankings for 2022 and our annual NESCACMAN Awards. Once again, thanks to those that followed us this year on the D3 Boards and on Twitter. Congratulations to Hartford State on winning the NESCAC title and an undefeated 9-0 season. Congratulations to all the team MVPs and our 2022 NESCACMAN award winners.

1). Hartford State Bantams (9-0; Last Week: 1): Third undefeated 9-0 season in the history of the NESCAC. Competitive game against Wesleyan who led into the 3rd quarter. First downs were essentially even and Hartford State outgained the Cardinals by a mere 43 yards. Wesleyan missed the other half of their QB tandem, David Estevez, who tried to play after a high ankle sprain against Williams. He was only in two plays. At the end of the day, the better team won. Hartford State will reload for the 2023 campaign and replace key performers like Casagrande and Reid with underclassman waiting in the wings. 2022 Team MVP(s): Spencer Fetter, Noah Glantz.

2). Middlebury Panthers (7-2; LW: 2): Good year for Middlebury exceeding our expectations and coming in second in the NESCAC. Exclamation point on a fine career by HCOF Ritter. Tufts showed why they had the #1 in total offense in the league in smashing the Pants. At the end of the day, lack of ability to defend the pass killed them against Tufts. Middlebury should be in good shape in 2023 led by QB Cole Kennon. They definitely need to make some improvements on defense, in particular, the secondary heading into 2023.  2022 Team MVP: Cole Kennon.

3). Wesleyan Cardinals (6-3; LW: 3): Despite the loss to Hartford State, congratulations to Wes on winning their 2nd outright Little Three title in 3 years and 3rd in 6 years, something not accomplished by the Cardinals since 1966 to 1970. Let's not forget that Wes did not win one single Little Three title from 1971 to 2012, a span of 43 years. The latest run is a huge step forward for the program. Wesleyan played well, despite the eventual loss in Hartford. Of course, HCOF Jeff couldn't help himself by tacking on a meaningless touchdown at the end of the game when he could have run out the clock by taking a knee. Future is bright for the Cardinals as they return most of their starters (7 on defense and 8 on offense) including QB "1b" Niko Candido as well as potentially returning stars/All-NESCACers Nick Helbig at DT and WR Logan Tomlinson. 2022 Team MVP(s): Nick Helbig, Logan Tomlinson.

4). Tufts Jumbo's (6-3; LW: 4): As predicted, Tufts passing game was in record form against the woefully undermanned Middlebury secondary. Finished the year strong. They return the best QB in the NESCAC next year, Michael Berluti, but lose top receiver Phil Lutz. Defense is still a work in progress. Playing as well as any team in the league at the end of the year winning their last three games and outscoring their opponents by a combined 149-54. 2022 Team MVP(s): Michael Berluti, Phil Lutz.

5). Colby White Mules (4-5; LW: 5):
Ended the season on a sour note losing their last 3 games and not achieving their stated goal of having a winning season. Very poor effort against an undermanned Bowdoin squad. It might be time for a coaching changing in Waterville. Colby has theoretically lowered their football admission standards to Hartford State-type levels yet have delivered the results thus far. We would say QB and skill players should be high on their off-season shopping list. 2022 Team MVP: Julian Young.

6). Williams Purple Cows (3-6; LW:6): End the season on a high note with a win at home against Amherst. Gives them something to build on for 2023. Like many teams in the NESCAC, they'll be looking for a QB and someone for him/her to throw to in 2023. 2022 Team MVP: Joel Nicholas.

7). University of Bates Bobcats (Lewiston Campus)(3-6; LW: 7): UBates finishes season on the high note as we predicted by beating the Wobegon Hamilton Continentals. Now the fun begins for HCOF Coyne as he starts to build the Bobcats with his own recruits. We think 2023 could be a step back before moving forward with a sophomore dominated team in 2024. Looking forward to seeing what he builds over the next couple of seasons. 2022 Team MVP(s): Christian Olivieri, Tony Hooks.

8). Amwurst Lord Mammoths (2-7; LW: 8): Forgetful year for the Lord Mammoth finishes with a loss to rival Williams. 2nd losing record in the last 3 years for the LMs. Decent defensively but pathetic offense. Need playmakers all over the field on offense to be more completive in 2023. 2022 Team MVP: Andy Skirzenski.

9). Bowdoin Polar Bears (3-6; LW: 9): Major victory for this historically inept program in getting to three wins. Did the 3rd win save HCOF Hammer's job? Only time will tell. Getting QB Boel back healthy in 2023 will be a major goal. Lose a lot of talent on defense (Ortiz and Jacobs). May have problems keeping teams under 30 points per game next year. 2022 Team MVP(s): Max Jacobs, Drew Ortiz.

10). Hamilton Continentals (2-7; LW: 10): Program seems to be moving the wrong direction. Are they in the wrong league? Maybe it's time for a leadership change? Seems like a century ago that this offense featured Kenny Grey, Joe Schmidt & Co. and actually looked competent. Team MVP: Chase White.

2022 NESCACMAN Offensive Co-Players of the Year: Michael Berluti, Phil Lutz, Tufts.
2022 NESCACMAN Defensive Player of the Year: Nick Helbig, Wesleyan.
2022 NESCACMAN Special Teams Player of the Year: Matthew Jumes, Hartford State.
2022 NESCACMAN Rookie of the Year: Tyler DiNapoli, Hartford State.
2022 NESCACMAN Coach of the Year: Bob Ritter, Middlebury.

NESCACMAN's Picks (winners):
2022 Season: 31-14 (2-3 last week)
2021 Season: 33-12
2020 Season: 0-0
2019 Season: 33-12
2018 Season: 36-9
2017 Season: 35-10
2016 Season: 32-8
2015 Season: 30-10
2014 Season: 30-10
2013 Season: 32-8
Career: 292-93 (.758 winning percentage)

You do know that Winl /Loss is a major factor in power ranking. If you cant beat the Number One and two teams how do you think you should be the second place team. This is a perfect ranking for Tufts. As I said many teams have had offensive fire power in NESCAC what good is it if you cant stop anybody. Tufts had an exceptionally year in only one facet of the game.

NESCACMAN man did an accurate representation of the power rankings !

My bad when I wrote this I was thinking of the game nine Wesleyan v Trinity game which was touted as the big game.

I am sorry who won that Tufts @ Wesleyan game ? Does a second place team loose to Amherst.

In addition you seem to have forgot did not the potent offense which could have one the Wesleyan game on the last drive fail to score. Now I am not putting down Tufts they had a good year in one facet of the game but they were a middle of the road team despite their Offensive stats. Accept this and hope that they can recruit well and make a leap in future years.

That is great for him if true but seems slightly odd given that he would not have started at any of the top 4 teams in the league. No way he cracks the depth starting depth chart at Tufts and we forget that Jaden Richardson started over Billy Dunn who was one of the best in the league last year so I doubt he is even in the two deep. Middlebury had Wood and Livingston. Wesleyan had Tomlinson, Esteves, and Simco. Trinity had Clapp and Reid. Diawara is a talented player don't get me wrong but if he ends up transferring up we could see that with a couple more guys in the league who put up better numbers.

CC_Camels

In re transferring from NESCAC to D1, there was a running back from Bowdoin who transferred to UMASS a few years back, but I wonder if this is going to become more common with COVID eligibility rules etc.

Gate90

Does Fetter,  who has a year left due to Covid,  take a shot at transferring up?  Would make things a little more interesting for Trin next year if he were to do so.  Do hear they are high on their number 2 QB so may be an easier transition then for some of the other NESCAC teams.

Fetter is not leaving staying at Trinity for another year. In answer to second part they are extremely happy with Freshman QB from Florida and in their current back up. Trinity well positioned at QB.

Mole, as usual, you are correct. The NESCAC coaches all-league selection show was today. Unfortunately, it's only broadcast on NESCACMAN-TV.

First off, congratulations are in order to your amazing son and your family. Great player and even better person. Congratulations to him (and you). I know you and your lovely wife are proud Wesleyan parents (and you also make a mean cheesesteak).

Second, as far as the all-league selections are concerned, we'll stay quiet on the results to protect the innocent and give the coaches time to speak to their "selectees". However, a few overall comments, There will be some surprises and we disagree with how the coaches treated several positions, in particular QB and RB. Not really sure they nailed it. Seems like a little too much politics to us. Just our opinion. Curious to hear how all of you feel once the announcement is made. We know that it will provide a week's worth of fodder for board posts. Stay tuned.

Lastly, we strongly suggest you go back and look at the NESCACMAN awards. We hate being right!

Tufts losing to Amherst at home is just stunning. Agree that they can't be ranked #2 with 3 losses and a loss to Wes, although I think they may be the second best team in NESCAC.
Still can't get over Phil Lutz's crazy stat line vs Middlebury.

Just an update for Bobkittie fans as far as UBates WR Mohamed Diawara's status for 2023.

He announced on Twitter that he has officially entered the Transfer Portal. We wish him nothing but luck in pursuing his athletic dreams. We would rate him as the 9th or 10th best receiver in the league this year in the NESCAC, FYI. Will be interesting to see who takes a chance on him for 2023.

Diawara will graduate with his class in June and begin work on post grad degree at another school with 2 years of eligibility remaining (injury redshirt and Covid year). There has been ongoing D1 interest so we will see how things progress formally in the transfer portal.

Another development in the Bates program has Jr Linebacker George Hawkins (class of '24) graduating in June via a special program for graduation in 3 years. He also will have 2 years eligibility to pursue his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has been approached by interested schools as well at lower D1 level.
