Nescac1- I agree.
Thrilled that Helbig will not be on the Wes bus to Lewiston next September.

NM- One question, what is Helbig's true height and weight? Sometimes these NESCAC programs can be incorrect. It's a moot point because the beauty contest is over and he's proven he's a great player on the field...... but just curious.

If we are defining next level as Nova, Fordham, HC etc, I'm sure he can get some snaps. Beyond that let's be serious folks.

Wish him all the best-outstanding player for the Cards.

I would think Umass would be calling him.  Maybe Uconn as well. (not sure if Umass is next level from HC though  ;D)

The Mole

The Patriot League had a rule not allowing 5th year graduate transfers. Not certain if that was relaxed since Covid.

Yea not sure but made me think.  I have coached 3-4 kids in HS that ended up walking on (or taking a Grad year) at Boston College.  None of them were even close to being on the 2 deep but they all played in blowouts.  Helbig is as good as any of those kids so a place like BC is not out of the realm of possibility.  He would be paying his own way though that is probably certain.

I think we forget that many of the top players in the nescac mad multiple fcs offers out of high school and I can name a couple that had fbs offers. Not to say these kids would have gone to fbs schools and been all Americans but let's not act like the talent drop off is that different from fcs especially at the top of the league. The biggest difference is gonna be the physical stature and development guys have had(especially up front) from being at a d1 for 3 or 4 years that helbig has not but I think you may be surprised at where he could play. Same goes for lutz as a slot receiver who has clearly physically developed and has they plus physical tools as well as Tomlinson he chose to try and play up but for a guy like diawara that's where I would say low fcs or d2 is the sweet spot if he ever wants to see the field because of his stature and lack of physical development (probably partly from being at Bates for 4 years).

All-NESCAC team released:

https://nescac.com/news/2022/11/22/nescac-football-awards-announced.aspx

Mostly looks pretty good (as great a year as Lutz had, I'd make Berlutti POY, but he's got two more years to earn that award and coaches are always gonna go with the senior when in doubt).  Also, I think it's a bit odd that Tufts had three first team and two second team defenders given how much its defense struggled this year.  But I don't see any obvious omissions from the collective list of names, at first glance, who clearly belong ...

Don't disagree on Diawara but with 2 years of eligibility remaining he has some time to develop.

IMHO, there is an egregious omission. While I cannot disagree with the selections of Devine, Glantz, Helbig, and possibly Kenary, how is Drew Ortiz not first team DL? Edward Iuteri (Tufts) had a nice season but it's not even close. Reeks of politics.

I mean the same could be said for Livingston from middlebury and richardson from tufts. Both were definitely better this year than at least one trinity receiver and definitely the Bates receiver who made this list. But as you said politics.

What assistants are allegedly leaving the program at Tufts?

lumbercat

Don't see how Trinity RB DeNapoli (or even Kirby) was not selected over Smart at Colby. Both accomplished as much or more in 2 less games.

GroundandPound

2021: 1. Williams 11; 2. Trinity 10; 3. Wesleyan 8; 4. Amherst 6
2022: 1. Trinity 14; 2. Middlebury 8: 3. Tufts 8; 3. Wesleyan 8
All Conference players per top 4 teams last two years.

Nescacman

A few NESCACMAN comments on the All-NESCAC selections...

1. Despite the naysayers, we were right on all of our award winners except for Coach of the Year and naming Berluti as co-OPOTY.
2. We think that HCOF Ritter did a great job leading a team that was definitely not his most talented team to a 7-2 record and second place in the NESCAC. We think he should have been NESCAC Coach of the Year.
3. Strongly agree that Drew Ortiz was deserving of 1st Team honors.
4. As we said in a previous post, we think the coaches really botched the RB awards.

Congratulations to all the winners!
