Yes Charlie - he is a solid coach in a good place- not sure what you are saying beyond that but I respect your opinion.

I agree that the NESCAC would be a better place if all schools operated on the Trinity platform but that just isn't the case.

It's not the Big 10, Patriot league or even the Ivies where all the schools operate on a pretty level playing field- A lot of variation in the NESCAC --been trying to get you to see that.

Curious what the trinity platform is.
Is it simply being more lenient regarding academic standards and letting more football players / athletes in?

Forget Williams vs. Amherst... the best rivalry in the NESCAC is lumbercat vs. the quote function.

Jonny getting after it early in the morning!

I guess every 9-0 team needs some lucky breaks and god knows the Purple Moo-ers did that year.

Funny how I indicated there were problems there last year Coaches bickering between themselves and the berating of players. I indicated that an official at the Trinity game heard this and was appalled.  No Coach should pass the blame to his assistants especially in the media. There is definitely tension their at Williams hopefully this years recruiting class that everyone touts will ease those tensions. I would not be surprised if the next Coach to leave is Hennesey. great Coach and will want to move up coaching divisions having played D1 and in the NFL.

The coaching exodus is at Bowdoin. The last 2 OC's left after one year on the job and are currently together at Allegheny. Now Defensive Coach Sam Blank who was just promoted in February has departed.

Interesting, to say the least. What is driving it? Hammer not easy to work for? Location too remote and removed? Lack of support/pay for the coaches or total program? Too difficult to recruit with academic restrictions? Program record since 1992 is 65-179-1 (.265) and only two winning seasons (98 @ 5-3 and 6-2 in 2005).

Mark Raymond's best quote in the Berkshire Eagle during this past season after one of his SIX losses. " My Assistants need to bring me a better game plan". I'm sorry but you never blame your Assistants in the local newspaper of a small community without taking a lick of responsibility yourself. I still say you people are overrating him as a HC on this site. Oh you best believe he will be milking that 9-0 season until that t*tty goes bone dry.

I tried to confirm the supposed quote from Mark Raymond mentioned above. I reread all of six stories written after Williams' six losses last season. I talked with Howard Herman, the author of all these stories. He has no recollection of any quote like that. So, though: "I'm often wrong, but
never in doubt", I do wish that Johnny Eph would be specific the date of that quote. It is certainly nothing like anything I have ever heard Mark Raymond say.

Oh you talked to Howard Herman? He doesn't remember a quote like that?...So he is going to recall a quote from over 6 months ago?  I am not paying good money to go digging into the Berkshire Eagle archives BUT I promise you the quote is spot on.

He talked to him, and he re-read the stories.

Wouldn't hurt for you to provide some evidence for your claim.

Ok I found the quote I suspect Johnny Eph is referring to and needless to say it is an egregious misrepresentation.  After the Hamilton game:

"I have nothing but respect for this team. These guys show up every day and work their butts off every day," Raymond said. "They're doing their best right now. The coaching staff has to do better and try to get them into better spots to be successful."

The quote was in the context of praising his players' effort, first of all, and second of all he referred to the entire coaching staff, not merely his "assistants ...".

Would it be better if he had said, "as a staff we called a heck of a game, too bad our players are a bunch of lazy bums"?  It's a milquetoast quote saying we as a coaching staff need to do better.  Nothing remotely wrong with that.

nescac1

Nope.  Every other Raymond post-loss quote was graciously crediting the other team and talking about needing to make key plays, improving next week as players and staff, etc., just utterly generic coach-speak.   And by the way after wins (both in print and in the weekly show) I've never once heard him personally take credit for a victory.  Like, never.  The guy is not someone to shirk accountability for losses or take disproportionate (or any, really) credit for wins.  If that is the worst Raymond quote you can find during his coaching tenure and that's the only verifiable basis for attacking the man, that's pretty damn thin.

I can't imagine reading that sort of generic utterly harmless post-game quote and saying "this dude is unfairly attacking his assistants" unless for whatever reason - and I'm guessing you have some highly personal, non-disclosed reason not to like Raymond - you were predisposed to hate the guy.  It's you who has continually misrepresented both Raymond's coaching record and statements during your short time on this board, so you don't exactly have any credibility at this point.

a little off but to me its still a bus rolling. He could have said WE as a Coaching Staff..If that is even the right quote...keep searching

Not close at all Johnny- total embellishment, misrepresentation by you- you've got a future with a number dishonest media outlets around us. Never let facts get in the way of your agenda.

Really?   "Close Enough"  Lol.      "My bad, lets move on"

Does accountability mean anything?

That is an egregious misrepresentation, not just "a little off."  We is implied -- he's part of the coaching staff and responsible for it.

You claimed he blamed his assistants, and you were wrong.

Particularly amusing that you question whether the quote is correct, given that you couldn't be bothered to provide it in the first place.  Nice trolling.
